Does the Tefal Optigrill + open all the way, ie flat (180 deg) to enable it to be used like a BBQ, enabling more sausages to be cooked on it?

No, Tefal Optigrill+ will not open all the way. It opens only to 90 degrees.

Why it doesn't let me choose the meal setting? I turn it on, all the programs start blinking but takes me straight to temperature button. Also while is cooking, if I open the lid, the chicken setting along with the white light start blinking.

That does not seem correct operating mode. I presume you do not have anything in the grill, when you turn it on. VERY IMPORTANT. This makes me think that food is in grill, when it is not ready, to select meal. Then select meal type, then OK. Wait for ready alarm, then place food in grill, to cook to desire. Try not to keep opening, as this may confuse the AUTO measure food thickness.
How old is the Optigrill, and do you still have receipt. Seb will look after you in warranty.

Sorry, I have not experienced this problem. My Optigrill+ has worked perfectly every time.

Ok, I had the last model. Loved it until it was 13 months old, like a lot of others, stuck on manual. Ended up a very expensive toasted sandwich maker. Is it too soon to try the new model or should I wait?

Yes, like me, the original model, in my view, was a disaster. Not enough BETA testing, before release. If you reviewed your old one, surely Group Seb would help.
I must admit, not done a toasted sandwich at this time. Last night, I did a Kangaroo Steak, which must be well done, for Kangaroo. It was perfect, not charred.
The fault I had, hopefully was a small glitch. Remember, instructions, are a guide menu. You still need to experiment to your taste, at times, as I do.
The Optgrill is still a great unit, providing no silly issues.
If you buy another, I wish you well, and keep that receipt. Make a copy, as those thermal receipts can fade/blacken.
Regards,
Charlie
