Sarah M.asked
Hi, if I purchase a Telstra TV3 will it work if I'm with a different internet provider. I do have a Telstra account number. Would I get the fta channels and catch up tv via streaming, I don't have an antenna.
1 answer
Hi, yes I believe it can be used with other internet providers. However you really should direct your questions to Telstra as I have an account with them and I have an antenna, so always best to confirm with them.

Can you stop it turning off every 4 hours.
2 answers
I have never had this happen Rob B.Your Telstra TV enters a power saving mode when not in use, so there's no need for a power button. Your TV will display a screensaver and power consumption is reduced. You'll continue to receive firmware updates to make sure your Telstra TV is up to date. You can select Screensaver in Settings, then select Wait time. Hope this helps
Thank you, I hope it works.

slow wi-fi connection

The box is wired to the modem which is allegedly broadband. As no NBN yet. As we know Telstra throttles speeds so there is lag/freezing on streaming etc
Can you stop it turning off every 4 hours?.

how do you delete tv channels not required (standard def), and how do you choose a channel directly without going through the menu?
1 answer
HI,
Sorry for late reply. Firstly, you should know that Telstra doesn't want you to watch anything but the channels that it supplies with the Telstra TV (Roku) unit. I'm not sure if it works on the latest model, but it may be possible to side load the content you want. Essentially you need to. 1. Switch the Telstra Tv (Roku)_ unit to developer mode. 2. Access the Telstra TV (Roku) unit via a web browser 3. Upload the channel/app which you need to find in "unconventional". Here are some good guides. Good luck!

does Telstra tv new roku version up scale free to air tv channels to 4k?
1 answer
Sort of. The Roku will scale the broadcast stream so that it will fit across your entire TV screen, but it wont change the resolution. So a 720p broadcast will not appear any better on a 4k TV, but it will fill the screen. You will only get true 4k resolution if the channel is broadcast in that resolution. Note: if you are on any of the NBN's current plans you wont want to do much 4k streaming. It chews through bandwidth.

You cannot access Foxtel unless you con it to a contract. You will see a Foxtel button opposite the one for Netflix.

I do not have a Smart TV. I do not wish to pay for Netflix etc. If I want to watch catchup TV or SBS on Demand movies etc. I have to take my laptop out to the lounge, plug it in and connect the HDMI cable. I thought I might buy a Telstra TV so I would not have to set up my laptop. However, I do have a Panasonic Recorder Model No. DMR-BWT460 and record my favourite programmes so that I do not have to watch adverts. My question is, if I buy a Telstra TV and I am watching a programme via Telstra TV, can I still record other stations on my Panasonic? Sales person at Telstra was unable to answer this query. Thank you.

You can not record a program via the Telstra TV2. If you do get one (I wouldn't pay for it) then if you want to watch free to air TV via the TV2, you have to have the antenna cable go into it. However you don't have to have the antenna plugged into it to watch streaming services as that can go via ethernet cable or wirelessly as in my case. If you keep the antenna plugged into your PVR then I would think that it would allow you to record from the 'normal' TV stations. I was given it as a freebie, just like the Telstra T Box which I still have. The TV2 is like a dongle. It needs to be set up to your internet account / gateway. Have a look at the terms and conditions. There is a lot of wriggle room for Telstra especially if you are on the NBN.
Hi yes you can do this. I set mine up today. Instead of putting the antennae cable into the tv (as per guidance) leave the antennae cable in the PVR. The cable port next to antennae (in) onPVR - use a cable from antenna/rf 'out ' on the pvr into telstra tv). That means that your pvr is still connected to the antennae and receiving free to air channels.
Telstra tv will set up on hdmi 1 on your tv and the hdmi 2 will be the pvr. You can also watch free to air via telstra tv or through the channels on pvr - however you will no longer be able to watch tv free to air on the actual tv set. In essence the tv becomes a monitor for either telstra tv or pvr.
A hassle that you have to manage 3 remotes unless your pvr remote will also task the tv - some will like panasonic or sony if the components ate the same brand.

I was told by 2 employee's at the Melbourne CBD Telstra store that I can use the Telstra TV bx even though I don't have a Telstra account. My GF just bought a Telstra TV box today, but now checking online it seems as though you need an account. Do I, or don't I need account to watch iView, SBS, YouTube, Netflix, Stan etc??

For anyone else, I found my answer on the Whirlpool forum. Just setup a 'free' account at https://crowdsupport.telstra.com.au/ and use that to log in.
Hi. Yeah, as you said - you're able to setup a free account through the Telstra site. If you're a Telstra customer you're able to bill your account for any Telstra Movie purchases or simply use a credit card.

can i get afl on telstra tv?
1 answer
You get the following . At least that is what my device gives. Now - YouTube -iview - 10play - Presto - Stan - Big Pond movies - Yahoo - Netflix and Sbs on demand. There are a whole host of apps loaded as well but it is difficult to figure out how to use them and what they do. I think I did see a football app AFL and NRL when I could look through the menus. Telstra has sent me a new unit as the other one was faulty from new.
