You should be able too,but for better answers ring a towbar installer in your area if your in Adelaide ring Allin Towbars there on Richmond Road,Richmond

Yeah, I'm with sticky. Same model from 97-92 so it should. Supposedly different from wagon to sedan but unconfirmed. Again check with an installer who can give you new bolts etc for the install. You will have to drill 2 holes if they aren't there already.

How do you change the remote battery in the key fob? This key fob does not have a small screw in the back.

the key fob splits in half if you use a small flat screwdriver and insert it carefully in the join and wiggle it should split into two, job done.

These key fobs can reasonably be repaired by anyone with a soldering iron and some parts from jaycar. Buy a button cell backing holder PCB Mount with opposite pins and a 2032 button cell lithium type.
Open case carefully using a flat blade screwdriver around the key ring attachment point. It will crack open but use less rather than more force to pry it open. Desolder the battery by locating the two large solder points on the PCB. Replace with the new button cell holder you bought in the same positive/negative configuration.
Get a 25mm hole saw and drill out the back of the key fob at where the battery sat. 25 works best for the new battery holder. Put the case back together with new battery installed. Just put some black electrical tape around it hold it together. Or use some large heat shrink around it all.
Next, get online and find programming instruction for new key fobs for 97 to 02 Camry's svx20 or mvc20. Perform that instruction and you are in business. New battery changes are then very easy.

I have an 01 2.2 wagon with 290000 K's. Overall a very reliable old bird, but with some annoying minor faults. Can anyone suggest a fix for the driver side windscreen wiper arm slapping into the roof pillar on full stroke, especially on high. I have tried adjusting the arm on the spindle to the point just back from where it snags the passenger side arm, but no matter how far I adjust it, it hits the pillar quite hard. Is this just wear in the motor or is there another fix I can try?

At the base of the wiper there should be some adjustment screw(s) that may need a tweak.

Replace the drivers side with thinner Trident brand complete wiper assembly. Thicker and newer blade style ones don't work; they tend to bang on the windscreen plastic side trim. I've done it and hey presto no noise. I left the passenge blade style as is.

I have a 1999 v6 and have a knocking sound which appears to sound like its comming from the rear drivers side wheel /suspension area. It is only obvious when travelling on tram tracks and rough surfaces but is quite annoying. I initially thought it was the muffler loose however when shaking it no noise exists. I suspect its something to do with the shocker, spring or a component of this area. Any suggestions as l want to appear knowledgeable when l take it to the experts?

Not a clue, though perhaps you could Google "1999 Camry rear suspension noise". The first link indicates that worn Sway / Stabilizer Bar Bushes can produce the type of noise you have (common with vehs over 100K. Don't know if this is the case, "Pedders" or some other suspension should be able to help. Is there an online Camry forum you could ask? All the best.

Thanks for your reply.....it appears to be a faulty shocker so l guess an easy fix. Regards

Strut tower bushes. Common fault. Replace together with new shocks, either front or rear. Happen s all the time with age. Had to do 3 cars now so don't stress. Can be expensive though, shop around and or do yourself and youll save heaps!! Check if you have the touring model ; get the right struts as they are different ( spring and shocks) to CSI, conquest and earlier vienta.

Keen on buying an XV20 Toyota Camry Wagon. Is the 2.2L 4-cylinder engine adequate enough compared to the V6 with respect to the car's size being a fairly large vehicle?
Thanks, much appreciated

Hello Matt. I would strongly recommend the 3 litre V6 over the 2.2 4 cylinder. All reports are that the V6 is a much more reliable and stronger motor. I have a friend also with a high kilometre V6 and it has been a great car. Try to get a V6 that has been serviced regularly. Good luck! Greg.

Thanks Greg! Appreciate it.
And with fuel consumption, does it differ much between 4 cylinder and V6 or does it just depend on how hard you push it

I own a 2001 Camry Conquest wagon manual 2.2. She has done approx 230000kms. What would be a ballpark figure for a clutch replacment on this model?
One workshop quoted $1600, does this sound like a fair price?

Hello Nigel. Sorry I can't help you as I have not replaced the clutch in my Camry. However $1600 sounds a lot - I avoid Toyota dealers and have luckily found a couple of really good mechanics that work from very small workshops. Would suggest you get another quote. Good luck, Greg.

Alfy12

Hi Nigel. Agree with Greg. Shop around. A good quality clutch kit is about $230 so the rest is labour. A good mechanic should do this job in about 5-6 hours on a front wheel drive car. That's an expensive hourly rate of over $200 per hour. Should find a mechanic to do it for $100 per hour plus parts. Should be closer to $1000. I've assuming your flywheel is ok and doesn't need machining. I charge $99 an hour for auto electrical services in country nsw.

shouldnt pay more than $600 all up

Go to Toyota Australia workshop and get it fixed or if the car is not under warranty you could try going to a professional trustworthy honest and reliable mechanical shop to get the problems repaired.

brian

For the suspension issue you could try going to Monroe shocks or as inappropriate have heard pedders suspension shocks are good as well otherwise body roll might occur and the car probably would not be as safe.

Servicing intervals are important / also they are reasonable though not as good as when Toyota used to make them back in the old days when they were steel motors before they switched to making alliminium blocks
