Triple wow. A Sportivo model is excellent
Have had a 2005 4cyl sportivo for three years to Dec 2015. The car had been used as a service/loan vehicle by a local dealership which I reckoned meant it had to have been regularly serviced and maintained by Toyota professionals. Cost $10,000. The ride is and always has been excellent. Very comfy seating front and rear and fully adjustable to personal preference. New tyres all round when bought and most important for Toyota vehicles, a front wheel alignment. Transmission is reliable. Some small grabs means it probably needs the belts tightenin...Read more
g in 2015. Braking is superb, did I say superb. Impressive exterior that holds its own even all these years later. Petrol consumption is as per the book still and minimal oil losses between changes. Runs an ethanol mix just fine. These cars lose the lighting for the clock etc panel. As I don't use it, it remains in the dark. No problem. Security has engine disarm when the key is off and a flashing led to warn wannabe burglars to keep off or suffer long loud tooting. Excellent boot size and the rear seats have fold downs that allow about 2.4 metre lengths to be transported. Have now installed rear backing cam and carcam.Similar opinion? Reliable but not quite like other Camry's
Bought the car (2002 4cyl Sportivo Auto) in 2008 with 120K's, in my area cars are very expensive and hard to get decent cars unless you buy new. Now with just under 210K's have had a reliable car that always starts and gets you round. But have never been happy with in in terms of quality, the car pulls you to the left (better than into oncoming traffic) but its frustrating having to keep pulling yourself back to the right all the time. For a 2.4L I find its quite sluggish (gutless) when taking off, and I find the transmission doesn't actually g...Read more
o down a gear if you turn from one road to another, you go to accelerate and there not much umpf there, like it should be in second gear instead of third. Most Camry's are usually quite, mine is not, always been louder than others, and cold starts I hate the most, revs right up for 2 minutes (on taco about number 3) and annoy the neighbours. Alloy wheels are fine except the centre cap thing, I don't know why they have to have a stupid plastic centre that clips in and then they break and full off, should be made as a single unit. Cruise control stopped working and so too the speed alert thing. both frond door handles (internal) broke, $70 each fitted. The squeaky steering wheel is horrible. At least the interior was reasonably nice in the gray, better than all the black/charcoal interior in all later and new models which make you feel like you're sitting in some cave. Doubt to buy another Camry after this, my previous Camry a 1994 Sedan was much better in terms of quality than this one but indeed boring to look at.

Best Car! So Durable And Reliable!
The best car for me, not so expensive and yet very durable and reliable. Spare parts are easy to find too. I had 3 cars of Toyota since I learned to drive and I have never encounter a major problem. Most of my friends had problems with their cars. I was able to test the durability of this car when a construction beside our house was on going. Two cars parked near the site, our car and the other is a different brand. There were stones falling and the other car's windshield and door was damaged but my car wasn't though both car was hit:) We had camry for 9 years but the engine was like new even after 9 years!
You can never go wrong with Toyota. Worth your money!

Can't get rid of it.
2005 2.4 auto Sportivo. Brought the car brand new. (Our first new car) 4th child on the way so brought 7 seater Volvo XC90 but car no where near refined as the Camry. Apart from tyres and brakes alternator just let go at 210,000km first issue what a great car. Car has been a great honest car so I'm keeping it and letting go of my old ute. I always change oil at 10,000km intervals with the best synthetic oil. Car 10.5 years old with 215,000km and engine is still so quite. Perfect family car. Beats me why a car like this wouldn't get a car of the year award.

Best towing vehicle ever
I have owned my 2003 V6 Sport 5 speed manual wth 260,000 on the clock since 2011 and all I have replaced is break pads. I tow a 15 foot caravan in 4th gear and it sit on 100 ks all day even on most hills. I drive on cruise control most of the time even when towing. I would never go past a camry if you are looking for a good towing vehicle.

Good, Reliable, Honest Car as It's Toyota.
I've bought 2005 Toyota Camry Altise Limited Edition V6 in March 2013. It clocked 85k at the time of purchase. Now standing at 110k. No problem at all. Very Happy... Very good, solid and reliable car, would definitely recommend this car. Mind you that it is V6 3L car, so don't expect to have higher mileage like some idiot in this section.

2005 Sportivo V6 5 Speed
The best 8gz ever spent! Owned for 3 years now originally purchased with only 59000 kms on the clock now done 80000 kms. Drove from Darwin to Sydney and gave me 750 kms to a tank and the empty light had not come on yet but the needle was just about the 3 quarter empty mark. I could not believe it, considering cruise control had her sit between 110 - 120 km/h. The car handled the long hot steamy trip without fail. I was stunned. Highly recommended to anyone! Don't get me wrong around town she's a little thirsty but long distance wow. No problems yet fingers crossed. Fully stock apart from stereo.

Oily embarrassment
In 2003 I bought a new Camry Sportivo v6. The Camry had all those expensive services at the Toyota dealer. The only thing I was aware of as a problem was the handbrake... it would just not hold on steep slopes. After having it looked at by dealers mechanics a number of times they were unable to fix the problem. I had to go to a brake specialist to have the problem rectified. After the warrantee ran out the motor began to smoke. I took the car to a private mechanic. The mechanic showed me a container of round balls of old oil. The motor cost me ...Read more
$2k to repair. I complained to Toyota Australia with no response. So much for the expensive servicing by the dealers. Four years later the motor seized whilst towing an empty trailer on the expressway... Lovely!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

A good honest car. Very reliable. Reasonably economical but not brilliant. Very nice interior. Did not have the longevity of earlier Toyotas with a few items starting to break and paint fading after a few years, good intermediate size would suit many people. Good visibility and relatively good comfort for long distance. Relatively low service costs.
Mechanical reliability.
Toyotas don't have the long lives they used to.

Cool for japanese
We own a 2005, Camry Sportivo sports, with factory tint, 4cyl, 5 speed, cruise control and moon roof. Thing goes like a cat on steroids, but the fifth star would have been for rear wheel drive, could easy challenge an EVO with this setup. Rear drive would give it the traction it needs to launch, rather than loss of traction (dynamic balance for drifting or burnouts).
Instant revs, however, my wife likes all the bells & whistles
Lack of rear drive

Reliable Engine
I bought my car brand new since 2004. Never had any problem with the engine except for cosmetic issues, like the rubber around the doors kept on falling off at the start and I only get 400 kms on short trips but 600 kms on long trips. Overall it has been reliable considering that I have driven interstates quite a few times without any problems at all.
The reassurance that the engine would never let me down
Rubber around doors falling off at the start but now ok

Best car I've owned.
Hammered from new. Never let me down. Still have it. 150,000km.
Biggest problem- starter motor "jammed" after six years. - Repacked it with grease (30min job). One year later starts every time. Replaced battery after six years. Wheel alignment OK after 100,000km. Hard to believe after the hard time I've given it.
Reliable. Inexpensive. Plenty of room. Excellent for towing trailer and bikes. Plenty of low rev power and torque. Excellent workhorse.

Will never own another Toyota!!
My mum has the 2004 Camry Altise V6, she has had several issues with the car. The first one was having sludge in the motor (it was continually blowing out black smoke from the exhaust) which was then off the road for 6 months saving for the repair, ever since she has had issues with oil leaks and continual smell of oil burning. Another problem is she is continually needing to get a wheel alignment and cant go faster than 100 without the wheel wobbling like crazy! she has told many people that she would NEVER recommend a Toyota to anyone after o...Read more
nly ever owning Toyota's and being a genuine buyer. The older models of Toyota Camry's drove like a dream and never had major troubles. Was very disappointed and thought this would be her other dream car too, but turned out to be a lemon! Very Disappointing. Good stereo and sound system, comfy seats, big boot space. Expensive to run, sludge in the motor, oil leaks, oil burning smell, cd player stopped working, always needing a wheel alignment, steering wheel wobbles at 100km/h.Similar opinion? Toyota you cant go wrong
My partner and I have only ever owned Toyotas, my second car was a 2002 ex rental Toyota Corolla (best car I ever owned) and my partners first car 1980's? model Corolla ran like a dream got over 400,000kms out of it. I now own a Toyota Camry Sportivo 2006 bought with 84000 kms on it 2.5 yrs ago. Car has never given me any problems, I've now added a DVD touchscreen stereo and replaced the 6 speakers in this car runs like a dream and I am so happy to own a Toyota. I'd never buy anything but a Toyota all my cars so far have been so very reliable and fuel efficient. :)
My partner just yesterday bought a 2001 Landcruiser Prado and prior to that owned a Toyota 1993 Hilux surf. Safe to say we love Toyotas :)
The coloured interior :) red & black

Nothing but heartache and problem - a lemon
I'm sick of this car. Bought new in 2004, has only 30,000 km on it out of warranty, been serviced at least 5 times for the few kilometres it's traveled, at 20,000 the intermittent windscreen wiper motor died. The other wiper functions ok. Toyota made me replace the entire motor. Had to pay $400 for a new one. And now, even before reaching 30,000, driver's side power window has died. Only that side. Turns out, the motor is dead too. After less than 30,000 km? I cannot even count 50 times in the last 7 yrs that I wound that damn window down. Have...Read more
been told the entire motor unit has to be replaced - $785 for part alone (not including the regulator) not including labor. I'm furious. This should not be happening to a car with less than 30,000 km. And I remember as soon as we bought it, something died - can't remember, was the alternator switch I think. Had to bring it back for a replacement, luckily it was during warranty phase. As soon as I return from holiday, I am selling off this lemon. Not buying another Camry ever. Nothing. Big fat body like a hippo - so unattractive, I must have been mad to buy it Everything. Have had to spend a fortune on spare parts which break down after low mileage?1 comment

If you don't want to get demerit points this is great car to own, I bought a 2005 2.4 (4 cylinder) Sportivo. I do shift work and I just needed a car to get me from A - B with ultra reliability and no fuss. It's boring to drive and definitely not a driver's car. The word Camry and sport is contradictory in terms.
However It's a great family car with plenty of space all round, Fuel economy is very good and servicing and parts are cheap. It is very comfortable car to drive with a good engine that comes with bullet proof reliability.

Love it as a family car. Still very spacious even with baby seat put in the middle of back seat. Very smooth to drive around, not much engine noise. Would buy Toyota Camry again in the future.
Great family car, spacious, very smooth to drive.

If you want a mid-range Toyota which is reliable, efficient and a bit slick looking, you can't go past the Camry (any model past 2002). Drives really well, fuel efficient, easy to use and a good exterior/interior. You won't be disappointed with a Toyota Camry.
I love love love Toyotas (my most reliable cars have ALWAYS been Toyota). I recently purchased a Toyota Camry Altise 2005 model with less than 60k on the clock and I love it. I have a 2002 Toyota Camry with a 2.4 4 cylinder motor that's blown!! Can I swap it out with a 98 2.2 motor?
1 answer
No, it is a completely different model of engine. The '98 2.2L is a cast iron block with alloy head, the '02 2.4L is an all-alloy motor, this engine was a completely new redesign in '02. The '98 2.2L is a 5S-FE model engine, the '02 2.4L is a 2AZ-FE engine.

l have a 2004 Toyota camry. I've owned since then, it's done 240,000 kms or around 20,000 kms a year. l live in the country and get it serviced regularly, it runs brilliantly, never had any mechanical problems, only problem was a rusty exhaust had to be replaced because of rust. l was wondering how many more years or KM's do you think it will continue to run well before there starts to be serious or expensive problems when l would be better off getting a new car?
2 answers
Oil is to cars what blood is to humans. Fully serviced is the key to long life I ran a corona to 290k and saw that the guy that bought it was still running it 3 years later. Traditionally newer toyota vehicles are not oil burners so if the exhaust starts showing blacksmoke and or/soot in the tail pipe, it's time to bail out. Use a quality product to clean (a) the fuel injectors (b) the top end valves and rockers. If the book allows you to use premium fuel, it has additives will clean the rockers and valves, etc. Well worth a tank full. Run the fuel tank level down to about 1/4 full and then fill up with premium. Only other thing that's probably due for a makor check is the steering assembly. Bumps and lumps in the country may have created a need for the assembly there to be replaced. Often there is a clicking sound when turning left or right, that indicates the problem. At 290k you will not get much for it but it will not owe you much either.
Thanks! Do you think l should be able to get a few more years out of it. You mentioned the steering assembly? Should l ask them to give it a check the next time l get it serviced or it that something they check anyway and they would notice anything wrong? l get serviced at a Toyota garage.
