Good solid transport for a large family
I don't own a Toyota Kluger but recently rented one and drove 2,500 km through New Zealand's Sth. Island (badged there as Highlander) on holiday with my family of four.
Fairly basic model, but quite impressive. The boot with the third row of seats folded down is huge and easily carried five large bags. Plenty of room, comfy seats, storage and cupholders for the front and rear passengers. I could live without the foot-operated parking brake. Handling is a bit barge-like and has a huge turning circle, but on the highway, it cruises nicely and...Read more
the ride is smooth and quiet on those 18" wheels. Main downsides are that it is incredibly difficult to know where the corners of the car are when parking, especially at the rear. I don't what fuel consumption we averaged on the hilly, twisty roads, but I subsequently found out that the fuel tank is 72 litres. Either way, it has a ridiculously small range in practice. Only other downside is the position of the B-pillar, so that when getting into the driver seat it's a matter of stepping up and moving forward and sliding back without knocking your ear off on the door.Similar opinion? good, reliable, family car
My husband and I agreed that we needed a larger car - with 4 kids plus us there was only a few options in the 4wd catagory that really caught our eye.
after reading a lot of reviews and taking the car for a couple of test drives (as you know its a financial commitment!) we decided to buy. Since then, it has been a great additional member of our family, plent of space, we love out camping and it has taken us all across SA, the eyre peninsula and up north into the Outback.
Only one problem and I am not sure if anyone else has experienced t...Read more
his - the airconditioning has been very tempermental? It works well but then other times it just stops working. We have taken it back to the dealer to get it looked at and we have been asured there is nothing wrong but it keeps happening. Not so fun when youre in northern SA near oodnadata and its 40 degrees!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Frustrating !! 2015 Grande 4WD
So happy with this car, yet so frustrated with a couple of things. If you have a young family with a requirement to use the 6th and 7th seats in third row for child restraints, then you won't be happy.
1) no anchor points in 3rd row.
I didn't think it would be a big deal to get some installed. Ive got 3 kids in booster and below, and want / need to sometimes place them or their friends in the third row. Apparently you have to get a crab bar installed across the back of the car because Toyota didn't think it is worth it to engineer the thir...Read more

Minor Issues - Still a good car
Pros - Great family car, great to drive, good performance and not sluggish at all, so far very reliable, air conditioning in the cabin everywhere which is essential where we live, good looks.
Cons - We brought a 2WD but should of brought the AWD I find the 2WD a little light in the steering at times (not sure why Toyota just doesn't drop the 2WD versions and just make them all AWD they are SUV's after all) our cruise control stick lights are flickering (Toyota is replacing the part though), we find the trip/fuel computer a little strange but according to the last refuel we are getting 605kms to a tank but has said as low as 405km even though our everyday driving habits had not changed (Toyota is looking into this also).

Great car, shame about the urban fuel use
Hello,
I have had my AWD 2015 model, now for just over a month, being a japan made honda fan, I was hesitant of going to USA made, toyota Kluger.
Overall, I am very happy with it, it has great power and very nice on the motorways. lots more space inside than santa fe etc, I love the tray under the dash and the seats are very comfortable.
But around town petrol consumption is very high. Toyota should be fitting a diesel to this model. Purely on its bulk and weight.
For those of us that want the perfect driving height/position, over climbing in and out of a prado/fortuner every day.

LOVE IT!!!!! SO SO MUCH
Beautiful to Drive, comfortable, looks nice (get so many compliments) I got this car in Pearl White and have the Darkest tinted windows, it looks awesome. Has to be the perfect family car. Plenty of room in the back for the kids, bags and a big pram. Also nice and roomy in the back for adults to. My kids LOVE the DVD player that pops down from the ceiling with the cordless headphones. I love it to, they can watch there tv shows or movies while I get to drive in piece and quite listening to my own music.
The Audio system, Bluetooth and sa...Read more
tellite navigation is super easy to use and has a nice big 8 inch screen. Reverse parking camera is awesome!! Love how the car warns you if your coming to close to other cars or object. The front centre console is HUGE, I've never seen one so big! You could easily fit a whole laptop in it, plus plenty more.. Always a bonus having plenty of storage space with kids. Automatic Tailgate is also something I will never ever go without again on a car for as long as I live, It makes life with kids so much easier I love everything about this car!!Similar opinion? Great Car!
Bought the Kluger GX brand new 2014. A very reliable and stable car. After one year traveling, I can say so far do not have problems at all. It also got a very good & powerful V6 engine. Very spacious and practical inside. The only downside is the suspension (quite bouncy) & fuel consumption. Capped plan service charge $170 is also reasonable to me.

Best Kluger ever
Have had a base model GX 4x2 version for over 3 months now. Extremely happy with the car. Huge improvement over the older versions - in terms of comfort, handling, fuel efficiency, passenger space, quality of materials etc..
Cons: Bit pricey compared to the competition. Can have more features added for the price. Small capacity fuel tank
Review update: Had the Kluger for 8 months now, first service complete at an affordable $170 - capped price service. Fuel efficiency drops in city traffic to 12-13L/100km, but my commute is mostly highway ( 8-9L/100km) so not too fussed. Good size boot with all 3 rows up unlike the old version.

It's Great
We purchased the KX-R new last year
Absolutely love it! Servicing through Toyota is capped at $129 for the first 12 services and is great.
I feel like we're always gassing up, we travel a lot - costs on average $80-$90 to fill from empty.
Great size for our family of 6, with 4 small girls.
I like the option of putting down just one or both of the rear seats and the removeable middle seat in the centre row. Smooth drive. Reliable car.
Only annoying this is that the dash is always lit up so I often forget to put my headlights on at night.

Fantastic family car in every respect, except fuel economy.
We purchased the Kluger new . It's the mid range GXL AWD 2015 model .
After owning a 2010 model for 5 years, we decided to upgrade.
I love most of the features of the car . It's very spacious, smooth to drive, powerful motor, looks good! Capped price servicing for 60000 kms (the first 6 services.)
I only have 2 criticisms. The Toyota app on the stereo is useless, so the satnav via the iPhone feature doesn't work. An after market add on is available for the stereo at about $1300. We haven't bothered though.
2ndly, the car his much heavi...Read more

Great decision to buy 2014 Kluger
Bought the new shape 2014. What a awesome drive. Smooth, quiet, powerful, spacious, imposing, safe, and attractive. Would definitely recommend the Toyota Kluger over other options at this price point.

Bought with confidence.
We’ve purchased the 2014 AWD Kluger (Aug 2014 compliance) which is built in the US. We’ve just returned from the US where my brother in law drives the Highlander (as known in the US) and was impressed with the smooth handling generous room (7 seater).
We’ve been planning to get the RAV4 since last year but we wanted something bigger as our X-trail has left us wanting that extra power when the family goes out on trips. I have driven a 2010 and 2011 AWD Kluger and noticed the big difference between these and the US made one. The 6 speed tran...Read more
smission is so smooth, gone is the abrupt acceleration from older models which becomes apparent when one builds up the speed. The fuel economy states 10.6 km/100 ltr but I’ve noticed its more like 12.5. Brother in law swears on the Kluger’s reliability and trouble free operation although only time will tell if the OZ variant will follow suit. The 3rd row is capable of seating 3 teens which means the car can carry up to 8 people, although one will have no seat belt. The 2nd row has rail to slide the seats which gives more than enough knee room for any tall passenger. The interior layout is intuitive with a very useful dashboard ports and with ceiling a/c vents up to the third row. Add to this the huge storage compartment at the front and endless compartment for storing anything from tissue box, softdrinks, sunglasses or mobile phones. I’ve seen some reviews in the US about the occasional whining noise generating from the transmission which I still have to notice. When buying a Toyota product, one is also buying the quality workmanship and reputation that they have built over the years so I’m not worried about some inherent minor shortcomings that no car brand is exempt from. We negotiated fairly hard and managed to snap the AWD for the price of the 2WD including extras such as metallic paint, 4 x weathershields, carpets, headlamp protectors and tints. Cap price servicing means we only pay $170 for the first 3 years. My only qualms is the new Kluger shape at the back section that leaves me desiring the previous release although I may learn to like it eventually.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Perfect family car
Just bought my 2014 Kluger Grande 2014. It is fabulous. So much room even in the third row. My 6ft husband can even travel in the 3rd row without an issue. Power boot is so handy when your hands are full. Kids love the cordless headphones that come with the blue ray player. We looked at the X5, Q7, GL mercedes and the Kluger grande won hands down for value for money. A luxury car without the hefty price tag. Capped servicing at $170 for 3 years is a real bonus.

Raheem A.asked
Hi, I just bought Kluger GX AWD 2018 model. I want to install navigation system in it and want to change the Ac panel and want to install climate control panel in it. Is it possible? If yes then how and where can I do it?
1 answer
Hi, I don't own one but am looking at buying one. I am confused as it says the GX doesn't come with sat nav. However looing at Carsales.com, I have come across 3 2018 model GX's that do. So either there is an option to upgrade the panel or some come with it. Don't know if this helps.
Belinda H.asked
Was there a RWD model, at all? I don't want to drive a FWD vehicle. Otherwise the kluge is perfect for us, but it is FWD.

I believe the standard model is.
No MIke it isn't it is a FWD, with an on demand AWD.

i wanto kno why the kluger 2022 gear box changes gear all the time
1 answer
because it has a 8 speed auto transmission and the gear ratios are very tight. To save fuel on the 3.5L V6, the ECU always looks for the most optimal gear for the load.
