Too many issues not built to last
Our car started off great, but once the DPF started playing up it all went down hill, huge smoke clouds fuel consumption up to 14lts per 100, Toyota made us come back to continually waste our time, 3 seperate days to be told it needs a new filter and it's a month wait, it is a known issue yet they still wasted our time over and over, They cannot guarantee us the new DPF will not end up the same after the next 30,000kms.
We also found a fair amount of dust in our air intake after looking into the issue we found Toyota are well aware and can'...Read more
t say if it will be fixed, we purchased the vehicle with intentions to use it as a long term tourer but it is quickly becoming a very unreliable 4wd and they are well aware of all the issues which are not isolated to a few vehicles so buyer beware Toyota reliability has gone out the window followed by there customer service.Similar opinion? Happy with my car
Hi all very happy with prado i purchased hilux at the same time and you can defiantly feel the comfort .Recently did of road trip and hit a wash out rather hard, went to use headlights at sunset not working .I checked fuses ok as had done a few river crossings, last resort tapped relays in fuse box and they came on and of we go .
September 7th 2018 Update: Another 10 kW would be perfect
Just completed great central road air suspension fantastic but strong head winds kept us dropping from 5th to 4th not towing anything which pushed fuel consumption to 15 to 16litre per 100ks at 90 to 100kmh, also dont expext your prado to be dust resistant as its every where, have a few days cleaning ahead, on the whole good trip

Great Car.
We've had the Diesel Kakadu 2.8 for 6 months now.
I have had several 4wds over years and have found the Prado perfect for our needs. It is cheap to run, cheap to service, nothing breaks, doesn't drink too much and does everything we ask of it without fuss.
Yes, it is not that quick off the mark, however the power is sufficient. It can accelerate at a reasonable pace if the pedal is pressed hard. Power delivery is quite smooth, interior is quiet and comfortable. It eats up the kms easily. The power delivery seems independent of the load in...Read more
the car. Doesn't matter if seven people are in the car or one, empty or packed to the brim, the torque is sufficient. We took six people off road with luggage and the Prado made it up hills without any extra effort. The interior is very functional- everything works as it should. The seats are very comfortable and the leather sturdy and easy to clean. Our Prado was very fuel thirsty for the first 6000km averaging 12-13L/100 city driving. Toyota tech assured me it would improve with more km. He was right, after bedding in at 6000km it rarely goes over 12L in the city and long distance can do anywhere from 8.5-10L/100km while running dual front aircond, center fridge and rear aircond.Similar opinion? Diesel is a Disaster
I bought this kakadu for my wife and never did I tell the rep that it was for anything else. We were strongly advised to get the diesel as it was more economical and had a better resale value. Wrong wrong wrong. The new diesel has a modified exhaust which has its own fuel injector so it can burn the toxic gases caught in the dpf. This consumes more fuel and you will never achieve the 8l/100 as advertised on the window. It is a marketing con and there should be a class action against toyota. I will spend the $10,000 in fuel on the extra I get be...Read more
cause of the resale value. So it would have been better off with the petrol and enjoyed the next 8 years with a smooth gutless ride rather than a rough noisy gutless fuel hungry ride. I have found a gentleman in wa that can tune the engine better than any toyota mechanic can (infact toyota send their cars to him when they cant fix one). This will not affect the new car warranty and im getting about 9l/100 now. My prado would not go below 13.5l/100. This is the same problem for the hilux, fortuner and 200 series. My advice. Do not buy diesel unless you are rich or a farmer and don't have an option. I have found a better option. Install a plugngo accelerator modifier. This is a game changer.Purchased in June 2021 at Toyota Dealers for A$80,000.00.

New 2016 2.8l 6speed/rubbish
I have been a Prado owner for 15 years and this is a shocker, underpowered and the auto gearbox does not lock into gear under moderate load making freeway driving unbearable and fuel economy terrible. I have complained to toyota with no response.
Towing is almost impossible. My advise is to give it a good test drive and tow your van with it before considering this vehicle. Also after sales response to my dissatisfaction non existent.

Perfect
I bought this Brand New from Coffs Toyota in 2018, and the car is perfect, i have no vibration issues at all, no noise issues at all. The car is extremely quiet at all road speeds, you could here a pin drop in it. Fuel economy is terrific averaging around 7.5lt per hundred. off road bloody brilliant it really soaks up the bumps and is super comfortable. I give my car and Coffs Harbor Toyota [name removed] 10 outta 10. He beat Ballina and Lismore Toyota by 8 grand. I am extremely happy.
