Prado engine and injectors are not fit for service

published

Great driving experience. Interior is good. Toyota phone system is poor there is a Bluetooth phone connection for making calls the connectivity with an iPhone is poor. There is no Bluetooth connection for playing music,You can connect with a cable. The Prado is about 10 years behind the times in this regard. Generally I am very happy with the performance since the engine rebuild.
My engine failed at 85,000 kilometres with a cracked piston and faulty injectors. This is a known problem. I believe Toyota have issued recalls in other countries but not in Australia. In my case Toyota supplied a short engine and injectors and charged me $3,000 for the labour only.

Happy with my car

published

Hi all very happy with prado i purchased hilux at the same time and you can defiantly feel the comfort .Recently did of road trip and hit a wash out rather hard, went to use headlights at sunset not working .I checked fuses ok as had done a few river crossings, last resort tapped relays in fuse box and they came on and of we go .

September 7th 2018 Update: Another 10 kW would be perfect

Just completed great central road air suspension fantastic but strong head winds kept us dropping from 5th to 4th not towing anything which pushed fuel consumption to 15 to 16litre per 100ks at 90 to 100kmh, also dont expext your prado to be dust resistant as its every where, have a few days cleaning ahead, on the whole good trip

Why Toyota

published

Extremely happy with out 2018 Kakadu but it lacks some of the features the 2012 model has.
1. Only one CD at s time whereas previous model was 6 stacker
2. Can only connect 1 phone whereas previous model stored up to 4 phones
They are my only complaints as it is an excellent vehicle.

Serious engine failure

published

Have had this Prado since 2010 and up until now it has been excellent. However, I was towing a 2.3 T caravan near Kings Canyon NT when all of a sudden white smoke appeared and the vehicle lost power. I was able to limp for a further 20 to 30 Km however the engine oil light came on (The first warning light to do so). I stopped in the middle of nowhere and fortunately for the RACV was able to tow it back to Ayres Rock. Prognosis at this stage is that one cyclinder is gone and probably a hole in the piston. Vehicle has only done 180K and the mechanic has informed me that they have a serious fuel injector leakage issue which probably caused my problem. Any feedback would be welcomed.

Excellent car. Beats Disco 4, Shoguns, VWs and GL Mercs in all respects.

published

Old diesel but reliable. Relatively refined. Excellent off road. 9l/100 km on highways. 13l/100km in town.
Plenty of room. Done 55,000 km from new and nothing ever went wrong. Excellent, quality car for entire family that works in town and off road. There is not much to dislike about the car. If I had to say anything - if you do heavy off road, you'll need a winch and some mods (and they are not standard).

New 2016 2.8l 6speed/rubbish

published

I have been a Prado owner for 15 years and this is a shocker, underpowered and the auto gearbox does not lock into gear under moderate load making freeway driving unbearable and fuel economy terrible. I have complained to toyota with no response.
Towing is almost impossible. My advise is to give it a good test drive and tow your van with it before considering this vehicle. Also after sales response to my dissatisfaction non existent.

Perfect

published

I bought this Brand New from Coffs Toyota in 2018, and the car is perfect, i have no vibration issues at all, no noise issues at all. The car is extremely quiet at all road speeds, you could here a pin drop in it. Fuel economy is terrific averaging around 7.5lt per hundred. off road bloody brilliant it really soaks up the bumps and is super comfortable. I give my car and Coffs Harbor Toyota [name removed] 10 outta 10. He beat Ballina and Lismore Toyota by 8 grand. I am extremely happy.
