Push Mowers Buying Guide
Our buying guide will explain which type of push mower would suit you most, how much you can expect to pay for one, and which features are worth looking out for.
Best performing mower that I have used
I am a contractor who mows large uneven blocks in somewhat rugged country. I am about to purchase my third TPE self propelled mower as I have been unable to source any better performing mower irrespective of price. The only negative..and it is not any real consequence, is the mowers weight.... a little heavy when loading and unloading from my utility.

glides along
I have a large block which slopes and the ease of this mower for me is worth every penny I used to have to get someone in to cut the grass but now I can manage the half acre on my own in under 2 hours...it is easy to operate and so far has started first time the only drawback is that if I have to pick it up it is a little heavy but I am only 5ft and an older female...it cuts well although where the grass is dense and thick it can take a bit of going over a couple of times...just have to be careful it doesn't run away with you at times but if you are aware of the self propel then you are ok..

Terribly flimsy and gutless
Within a few months of purchase the petrol cap simply cracked and was replaced by tin foil due to nothing else fitting the thread. The fuel tank itself was hanging on by a thread and then to top it all off, the cord completely came off the shaft and is irreparable. We have a small lawn with thick Buffalo and this thing was a hard to start piece of crap.

Excellent quality after 2 years ownership.
the BEST mower I've ever owned. So so so easy to start and maintain, the HONDA GSV engine is just a dream, have had no problems with the cutting of our 200sqm of lawn. The soft handle was damaged prior to delivery though, and the level adjustment plastic handle has broken but these are just cosmetic issues. Would definitely buy again. No other mower comes close for the value for money.
I agree with the comments from "Shaggy" below, I bought my TPE from a mower specialist in Rockingham WA (Coastline Mowers) and they gave me some excellent tip...Read more
s on how to use the mower and look after it. If you're mulching (recommended as lots of the nutrients in the grass is in the tips you're throwing in the bin) then you need to mow weekly (or more often) - long shreds of grass left behind will shadow out the grass underneath. Longer grass needs to be caught in the catcher. Secondly, if you're mowing over sticks & can't be bothered to remove these before mowing, you will damage both the mower and the catcher no matter what brand - simple as that.Similar opinion? Bloody good mower
I am a lawn contractor and use this mower commercially. I have noticed majority of people who have reviewed this mower really aren't very well informed. Honda used to make their buffalo lawnmowers in Queensland. The three speed mower was highly regarded and considered to have a virtually bulletproof gearbox. However they decided to move the manufacturing of their mowers overseas (because they cheaper to produce in Asia) and sold the factory and rights to make the 3 speed buffalo to TPE. The TN011 is the old Honda Buffalo. Where as the Hondas th...Read more
at are made overseas are known to have a dodgy gearbox and are basically are just not of the quality of the mowers TPE made in Australia. So as for TPE being a Honda knockoff well you decide. However guess what factory the other Honda knockoffs (like DMC) come out of. As for the bag getting holes in it yes that will happen especially if throw it around. It is because of the bag that gives the mower such pick up qualities but in saying this there isn't a mower out that will cut wet grass terribly well however the TPE will do it as good if not better than all others. I have also found mulching not great with any mower but if that's what you want to do then you really need to mow weekly or even more often than that depending on how quick your lawn grows. You will find anybody who complain about a mowers mulching ability is trying to mulch grass that is too long. The TPE is one of the most powerful self propelled mowers on the market. Engine size really has no bearing on power especially in lawn maintenance equipment.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Self propelled tpe tno11
Recently bought one and have used four times maybe five and bag already worn a hole in bottom and now the self propelled drive has given up. Bought from Masters and not sure where to go for warranty for something so new. Hope back up is good. Stay tuned will advise what transpires, very disappointed.

good choice for senior person with large area of grass
TPE purchased after consideration of others: Honda had better safety features, but was much more expensive. Rover had more power . As a 70 yr old, with a sloping property, I was concerned about being able to control and vary the speed. Storage and transporting: the TPE is too heavy to be lifted by everyone. Using a couple of planks works well to get it in and out of my hatchback.
Steering is heavy around small areas such as garden beds and trees. In open areas it is easier to operate, once the three gear speeds are mastered. Turning can be l...Read more
ightened by pushing down on handle to take weight off front wheels The rear catcher chute clogs in thick or damp grass. If you stop to empty the catcher before it is full, clogging is reduced. Warning: turn the motor off first! Do not attempt to clear the clogging while the motor is running as the blades are always spinning, and would cause serious injury otherwise. The bag is large enough to be not too heavy to lift, carry and empty when full. I find the bag easy to remove and refit. The grass type or dampness changes bag weight and ease of emptying. The blades are heavy duty and have withstood hitting rocks and tree roots. On heavy grass the motor is underpowered and will stall if blades are set too low, or too high a gear is engaged. On two occasions I have stopped the motor and it would not restart. The cause was loosening of the clip which holds the throttle cable in place on the carborator. Once, the cable also contacted an electrical wire cutting off the spark. Easy to fix: just re-position the cable and tighten the clip1 comment

Good in Dry Conditions
This mower is a Honda knock off and like the rest, (and pretty much everything these days) made in China (Chonda).
This machine works well in dry conditions where the grass isn't damp. The 3 speed drive is useful as you may adjust the speed e.g. slower for long grass and faster for shorter grass and engaging the drive is a simple matter of pushing the drive lever forward and holding it against the handle bar. The 3 speed drive is more versatile than that on the Rover Pro-cut. The blades are engaged whenever the engine is running ie no blade ...Read more
brake. The mower is able to mulch or catch. The grass chute is small because of the position of the drive motor etc (same as Honda mowers). The mower weighs in at 54 kg. The catcher is large and made of fabric and not hard plastic. It runs a Honda engine as do most of the Chondas (I believe to make it a more attractive purchase) and regularly takes more than 4 pulls to start. The catcher is a handy size but is made from fabric and developed holes after 2 months. It became unusable after 3 months when the stitching unraveled so it was binned. Honda fabric catchers last longer. The mulch plug is very easy to put in place and I prefer this mulch plug to my Rover's mulch plug. (Still prefer my Rover though.)Similar opinion? ound after much struggling it is almost impossible to change the blade with average spanners. resorted to removing the base plate the holding bolt was extremely tight .I. had to use a long extendable handle socket spanner .Once the base plate was off changing the blades was not difficult. Conclusion .--have good tools as if you strip the hex head of the holding bolt you will have a new problem If not strong or confident take the mower to a service centre . it may be a good time to have a service done as well. second problem is sometimes it will not start . a friendly mower mechanic showed that there is an ignition switch in behind the carburator. push to click once only and mower will usually start Kind regards From Des22
