Do not fly with them
The whole experience has been terrible. Try on line check in? No go. Q for hours. Couldn't use on line check in as I had chosen seats. What? I saw at least 4 different flight times, departure and arrival in last 24 hours before take off. When you arrive? They unload all the boxes of cargo onto the conveyor before suitcases. And I had priority luggage. Do not use them. Fly via satellite me other country. Awful.

airlines saying my plane is now leaving 25 minutes later but arriving 35 minutes earlier. Great if true but no other days around this for same flight has same details. Apparently my flight will just be faster than any other flight that week. No response to my request for some reassurance. Do I get there an hour earlier for them having got it wrong or do I tell my driver to pick me up earlier in Aus? This is hopeless.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Change for the worse
We have flown many times with Vietnam Airlines on the Sydney to HCMC route as well as internally in Vietnam. We have always been happy especially when we lashed out and flew business class. Unfortunately our last flight June/July had the 320 planes replaced by 777. We found the 777 dirty, old, uncomfortable and stressful. The return flight was so horrible that we will never fly with Vietnam Airlines again,

Very Suprised.
I walked onto the plane & though 'oh no.' That was me being a bit of a snob as the planes interior looked tired. That's where my doubts stopped. The staff were great. Very attentive and the service was great. And as far as airline food goes, I really enjoyed it. Food & service much better than what Emirates offered up on my last European flights with them. We flew Sydney to Saigon. Then later from Danang to Saigon & back to Sydney. The internal flight time did change by half hour but our transfer company notified us of the change so we had no problems. I think I would stick with my normal airlines for a long haul to Europe but Vietnam, I'd consider them again.

If you would like to have your flights changed 15 times before you leave and like to see the stop over times get longer and longer then this is the airline for you.

Give them a try
OK here's the thing this airline gets some bad press and I don't know why. We have tried then toSaigon Five times from Melbourne with great service in the air and on the ground. Food was good movies worked and the staff available if you wanted and always arriving a bit early. They have recently improved out of sight from a few years ago so I say try them it's so much easier than going Singapore Airlines via Singapore and then on to Saigon and the staff were unpleasant anyway but that's another story

I have booked two tickets from Saigon to Phu Quoc on 24th November.
On 16th December I was advised that my flight from SGN 20:45 on 3rd January has been rescheduled. Since then I have been chasing Vietnam Airlines to change my flight to a more suitable time. No result after so many emails and follow ups so I have no choice but physically go to Vietnam airlines office in Saigon and request a refund on the ticket...Read more

Never use this airline
As a family group of 7 flew from Australia to Nha Trang via Ho Chi Minh on a plane that was not clean and with extremely disinterested staff. Returning from Nha Trang to Ho Chi Minh, due to change of flight time we missed our flight. On speaking with their office in Nha Trang the person was unhelpful, said there were no available seats until possibly 10.30pm. He said he would call us back in 1 hour and didn't. When we phoned back the office was shut for lunch. As we had to be back in Ho Chi Minh we booked with another airline with the view we...Read more
would follow this up on our return home. Little did we know that when we checked in at Ho Chi Minh airport we were advised that we were not booked on our flight back to Australia as we had not taken the leg from Nha Trang and to add insult to injury we had to pay for re ticketing. Then they advised that the bassinet for the 1 year old had been allocated to a mother and infant. They were dishonest as when we got on board the seats were taken by a mother and a teenager. The extra cost to us was some $2500 and after 3 months of communication they have refused to refund any or some of this money. This is my first review. As a frequent traveller I have never experienced such poor customer service from ground staff to flight attendants and together with the worrying poor condition of the planes I would not recommend ever flying with Vietnam Airlines.Similar opinion? Haven't even flown yet and already regretting my choice
I have three domestic flights within Vietnam booked for an upcoming holiday, so far I have had 6 changes made to these flights made by Vietnam Airlines which has played havoc with Hotel reservations, connections to cruises and has cost me a fortune in cancellation fees. The Melbourne call centre is quite useful when they are there, but are not much help outside of business hours Monday to Friday. The international call centre is a disaster, with having to make 10 international phone calls to people who refused to help, and then being either disconnected or hung up on before I finally found one man who attempted to help. I will be absolutely amazed if I get anywhere as planned given my experience so far.

Lay over in Ho Chi Minh City
I hope this information helps others because no amount of searching helped me.We flew Vietnam airlines in May 2015.They offer a layover service in Ho Chi Minh City and Hanoi. See their web site for details. They have someone meet you before immigration, they take your passport, get you a visa free, they take you to a waiting van and transport you to a hotel. This is the info I could not get anywhere. The name of the hotel they take you to is Vissai Saigon Hotel, It is a great, great hotel, 4 star but only minutes from the airport. I hope this hotel name helps others plan their stop over. November 19th 2022 Update: Best value Business Class For just over $4000 each we flew to Frankfurt via Ho Chi Mihn City. We had a transit stop over where they organised and paid for our visa, based us to a hotel in the heart of the city, let us rest, fed us and took us back to the airport. Their lounge is just ok but hey, $4000. New 787 and A350 planes.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Terrible staff interaction
I took Vietnam airlines from Sydney to Ho Chi Minh and back. There were three main problems on the outgoing trip: First, a wait in line of more than an hour at Sydney to check in. Second, the seeming ubiquity of children with tablets blaring without headphones. Do the adults not realise how inconsiderate that is, or not care? In any case, the airline staff did nothing to stop them. Third, the ground staff in Ho Chi Minh were very difficult about transferring our baggage over to a second flight on Cathay Pacific. Due to the fact that the ...Read more
agent forgot to give us our baggage tags when checking in, they refused to deal with the transfer. We eventually got in touch with Cathay staff, who were wonderful and resolved the issue with a smile (even though the problem seemed to be caused by Vietnam airlines). None of these were huge issues, roughly what we expected given existing reviews of this airline. Though, it seems like the baggage problem could have been not worse if it wasn't for Cathay saving the day. On the return trip, I had what must be the worst staff interaction with an airline in my life. This may not be typical of Vietnam airlines, but will certainly prevent me ever flying with them again. On the return trip, I came down with a bit of a cold. As a result, I believe that the Eustachian tube in my left ear became blocked. This is the small “tunnel” in your ear that allows pressure to equalise. This was quite painful when taking off. However, when landing, this resulted in one of the most severe pains I have felt in my adult life. (Apparently, this is common.) I am a large grown man and do not often cry, but I was sweating, moaning in pain and felt at some points that I might vomit from the pain. We flagged down a flight attendant asking if I could have a painkiller. I just wanted paracetemol or asprin, nothing fancy. However, this attendant just told me to drink a glass of water. He then discussed the issue with another attendant behind him, after which they started laughing. I would never expect at any time in life to be laughed at for physical pain I am experiencing, much less by someone whose primary job is to ensure the safety of passengers. Surely, they just didn’t understand the severe pain that can result when someone’s ear cannot equalise pressure. (I did say that my ear was blocked-- I fly all the time and know how to equalise pressure normally.) Nevertheless, it points to a lack of training on the airline’s part, both in terms of medical issues they should understand, and basic professionalism. Never again, Vietnam airlines. For everyone out there, on Vietnam or elsewhere: think seriously about flying if you think you might be coming down with a cold. At the least, take a decongestant, or bring a nasal spray. Apparently that can avoid the problem.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

From sceptical to fabulous
My friend & I flew VN Sydney to HCMC 03/09/2014 & had no complaints on this leg of the journey. Domestic flights were another story for another time, but our International leg was delightful. From the outset we met the Flight Captain & learned our aircraft was only a few months old which was comforting, however, all staff were delightful, not just The Captain. The aircraft was immaculately clean, meals were fine, adequate hydration was offered, & we'd rate this experience 9/10. Our only concern was with our booking company who preferred not to discuss upgrading us to Business Class for reasons known only to them, but this was certainly not any fault of the Airlines. Yes, we'd fly VN Airlines again, in particular, the International route

Dirty planes, text book technical flight.
Used the airlines on domestic flight from hanoi to ho chi minh city about 3 weeks ago, plane was dirty, toilets practicly unusable due to filth.
Crew was nice and polite. Older 777 plane, Amazing flight from point of view of piloting the plane, perfect landing and takeoff. ( we have been through several planes in the past 3 weeks and coming from a family of pilots and with a wife who is the worst flyer on earth (the irony) I can honestly say that this was the best text book flight we had and so does my wife!).

Good value and a good airline for our flights.
We flew with VN from Sydney to London via Ho Chi Minh on 5 August 2014 returning 22 September 2014. we upgraded to Business Class through Optiontown and found all flights to be very good. The staff were all efficient and friendly without being obsequious, the food and service was very good. We have previously flown Economy with Vietnam Airlines to Vietnam in Feb 2008 and found them to be very good.
The only down side is that some of the aircraft are in need of some TLC and repair to the interiors that are getting a little tatty in places. The ...Read more

Just Horrific
Where to start?
The Business/ First Class Lounge at Ha Noi (their "flagship") is just plain nasty. Dirty, smelly, stains on the floors, ceilings, and chairs. Food consists of 2-minute noodles that you microwave yourself and those horrible stale cakes in foil packets. "Coffee" machine squirted something brown. I left and went downstairs for a decent coffee and Danish.

Im thinking of booking London to Sydney Business class one way in Feb. I’m concerned with the 15 hr lay over. Does the airline proved free hotels to business class passengers?

Hello Sally,
Thank you for your question.
Yes, we offer stopover program to our passengers, which includes hotel, meals, excursion, transfers and even visa for most tickets. (certain limits exist on promotional fares)
This service is free of charge, however it should be booked at least 48 hours in advance and you need to provide your passport details.
If your travel agent has any questions regarding this service, - we are more than happy to explain - he just needs to contact us. .

we are flying 2 adults and one 8 year old child this weekend from Melbourne to Ho chi Minh before continuing to Paris. We ordered kosher meals and now they tell us it is not available. This is really not acceptable. Also we were told the seats are 2,4,2 and we booked the front premium economy to find out we are scattered all over and seating is 2,3,2...I would like someone to provide a solution to our problem please. thanks

Good luck !!!!, Vietnam airlines only offer empty apologies and nothing else. My wife and I had a horrendous experience 2 months ago with them, it bordered on racism. Only to get a we are sorry and hope you have a better experience next time. There will never be a next time, I advise no one to fly Vietnam airlines ever.
Zack P.Vietnam Airlines
Hello Ariella,
Thank you for your request. Its hard to say anything as I do not see your reservation.
Please note, for future services you need to kindly contact your travel agent where you purchased your tickets and request to book your seats. Alternatively, you can login your reservation at our website and choose available seats 24 hours before departure.
Regarding meals, we do not offer Kosher Meals from Australia, We are sorry about that. We can offer vegetarian meals instead (they do not violate Kashrut, however we do not guarantee that kitchen equipment that we use was never in contat with milk or meat). If you are very careful about keeping kosher. you will need to take care about your own food.
Please note, Kosher food may be available on your flight from Paris to Vietnam, it should be requested by your agent in advance.

I’m flying economy, Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City. It says my meal is included. Will I need money for drinks etc.?
3 answers
No, drinks should be included. VN Airlines is great when it comes to providing food and drink in the cabin.
They just suck at not making last minute changes to people’s schedules.
Agree with Brain L - they are a "full service" airline, not a budget carrier. No need to buy anything on board. Only issue sometimes is finding the crew to help you - so don't be afraid to get up and walk to the galley to look for them.
No you don’t need money though they run out of European food even breakfast and are never hot
