Bad bad bad bad ... very bad experience ...
I just finished my Journey with Vietnam Airlines. Sydney to paris.
Ticket says sydney-hanoi-paris
In Reality
Sydney - cannt get on the plane without visa because flight will go ho chin min city and then go to domestic airport to go hanoi. Ok so spent 200 dollar to organise a visa from flight centre. needed to take passport size photo (All that for stopover they didnt told earlier) apperantly there was never any flight from sydney to hanoi.
Ok i though thats the end of it - reach ho chi min city airport, all hell break loose, got...Read more
2 hours to pass immigration (cannt go through all the details - its just for a transit visa - if you want to experience you can go through it) .. ran 1 km from international airport to domestic airport with all of my travel luggage (Yes you have to collect ur travel luggage on ho chi min city), re check in for hanoi than ran to catch the domestic flight to hanoi. once reach hanoi than you take you paris flight. other bad things - Immigration officers are rude and dont understand english. Flight crews dont know what is customer service is.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Avoid it like the plaque!
I'm from a Vietnamese background and wouldn't even recommend anyone to fly this airline anywhere! I wanted to avoid it even if it means transiting in Singapore every time I fly to Vietnam but alas had to fly them domestically when I travelled to Nha Trang recently. The flight from Ho Chi Minh City to Nha Trang had about 3 different departure times, and we came close to missing the flight because they'd neglected to inform passengers that they were actually boarding at the original departure time. We'd only found out they were boarding when we...Read more
went to the gate one hour prior to the departure time and realized that they were boarding the flight. I knew that this airline was terrible but now have experienced it for myself and wouldn't recommend anyone to fly it unless you have to (which is domestically only). Pathetic inconvenient airline
Vietnam Airlines is cheap for travel from Australia to Europe, but this Airline is simply not a realistic option for such travel. We were tempted by the relatively low prices. Only to find out that we would be stranded in HCM airport for 14 hours with no option of leaving the airport, with no food or water and forced to pay exorbitant prices to purchase 5 dollar bottles of water. The quality of the planes and the service is appaling, flight attendants are unpleasant, food is terrible. This airline is by far the worst international airline I have ever flown on, and I have flown on many airlines.
Terrible connections, terrible planes, terrible check in

poor services not recommendable
I took this flight from Sydney to vietnam. The cabin attendants were unfriendly and they provides poor services. I needed their assistance with regards to the transiting flights but they were not willing to help, their attitudes are quite rude. the toilets' hygiene is terrible and the meals were not tasty at all.. horrible experience... I would not recommend Vietnam Airlines not worth the money
bad service

Ok to Fly With - Value for Money
I travel for work and recently went from Australia to Vietnam. My colleague and I chose to travel Vietnam Airlines as it was a direct flight and also had upgrade options provided via Optiontown. Whilst delayed in Sydney for departure due to fog the trip was fine and they made up time on the way there.
The aircraft was a A330 and reasonably new and clean. The only downside was I had some trouble with the entertainment system on the way out and couldn't get it to work despite the crew resetting it. It was no problem as my colleague and I swapp...Read more
ed seats to watch a movie each. But we are very easy going travelers I guess if you couldn't swap this would be a problem for some people. The food was ok by airline standards and the crew were ready to help if asked. Otherwise you were left to your own devices, which is fine by me. Overall on the way over the service was ok and on the way back the service was very good. I also think on the return trip that the I think the Captain was an Australian lady which was a pleasant surprise. On both trips the plane ride was smooth and the landings were uneventful which is best :) The only downside I found was that they keep the cabin temp up fairly high for some reason. I guess some travelers like that but I prefer not to be too hot whilst flying. If I feel cold I grab a blanket. Overall ok and reasonably priced and I will fly with them again next time I visit Vietnam which may be for some dental work! See my review on TID for that story :) Direct Flight, On time, Value for Money Cabin temp too high at times. Had some problems with the entertainment system on the way out.Similar opinion? Not really pleasant
Flew witht his arline this year as that is the one the tour company provided. next time I would arrange my own flight. The seat in front of us was broken so everytime the poor passenger moved his seat moved closer to me... The food tray on my husbands side was broken so irt had to be propped on his knee... The glu=uten free food was very nice when I got it. They served dietary people first but to start with I got A vegetarian meal complete with bread roll, I thought it was just a mistake so ate it and gave the rolll to my husband....then came a...Read more
gluten free meal so I don't know whether the poor vegetarian client ever got their meal... There was plent of room on the way home and my husband has long legs so we were going to ask if we couild move into the middle aisle of 4 seats that were free so he could stretch out a bit, I also had a problem with my ankle swelling but no ....and I am not at all prejudiced against people in any way, the seats were given to an Asian family with children so they had 8 seats between the 4 of them and just kept chopping and changing where they wanted to sit...at one stage they had a toddler taking up 3 seats.. We found the Asian customers were accomodated first... The staff were accomodating if asked for water but that was about as far as it went. The plaane was very tired looking and seeing the broken bits and pieces wuite frankly didn't endear me to a safe journey at all.... Duct tape wass Holding up and exit light part of a wall!!!! The plane on the way back was much better but meal service was no better I am afraid.. Cheap I guess. It was booked by the tour company.. Broken pieces, wrong meals served and not terribly accomodating about us using spare seats...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Bad
Not an enjoyable experience at all. My first flight overseas and I was hungry, thirsty and cold the whole time because the staff just didn't seem to care about us. I wasn't able to judge on the actual plane- leg room etc- but the people made it a nightmare.
The plane wasn't full! Plenty of room. Not sure how it would go with a full plane though- see cons.
The staff seem to be incredubly put out if you ask for anything. Water, blanket, whatever, any request was met with a big sigh and roll of the eyes. I got quite fed up and ended up being really rude back.
Having to transfer flights was horrible, we were herded into a shed of some sort and made to wait for 2 hours.

Would fly with them again, at the end of the day its a very good airline for what you pay.
Efficiently run airline with polite crew and pleasant attitude, comfortable seats and the food was good, value for the very competative price that it was.

Hello Sally,
Thank you for your question.
Yes, we offer stopover program to our passengers, which includes hotel, meals, excursion, transfers and even visa for most tickets. (certain limits exist on promotional fares)
This service is free of charge, however it should be booked at least 48 hours in advance and you need to provide your passport details.
If your travel agent has any questions regarding this service, - we are more than happy to explain - he just needs to contact us. .

we are flying 2 adults and one 8 year old child this weekend from Melbourne to Ho chi Minh before continuing to Paris. We ordered kosher meals and now they tell us it is not available. This is really not acceptable. Also we were told the seats are 2,4,2 and we booked the front premium economy to find out we are scattered all over and seating is 2,3,2...I would like someone to provide a solution to our problem please. thanks

Good luck !!!!, Vietnam airlines only offer empty apologies and nothing else. My wife and I had a horrendous experience 2 months ago with them, it bordered on racism. Only to get a we are sorry and hope you have a better experience next time. There will never be a next time, I advise no one to fly Vietnam airlines ever.

Hello Ariella,
Thank you for your request. Its hard to say anything as I do not see your reservation.
Please note, for future services you need to kindly contact your travel agent where you purchased your tickets and request to book your seats. Alternatively, you can login your reservation at our website and choose available seats 24 hours before departure.
Regarding meals, we do not offer Kosher Meals from Australia, We are sorry about that. We can offer vegetarian meals instead (they do not violate Kashrut, however we do not guarantee that kitchen equipment that we use was never in contat with milk or meat). If you are very careful about keeping kosher. you will need to take care about your own food.
Please note, Kosher food may be available on your flight from Paris to Vietnam, it should be requested by your agent in advance.

I’m flying economy, Melbourne to Ho Chi Minh City. It says my meal is included. Will I need money for drinks etc.?

No, drinks should be included. VN Airlines is great when it comes to providing food and drink in the cabin.
They just suck at not making last minute changes to people’s schedules.
Agree with Brain L - they are a "full service" airline, not a budget carrier. No need to buy anything on board. Only issue sometimes is finding the crew to help you - so don't be afraid to get up and walk to the galley to look for them.
No you don’t need money though they run out of European food even breakfast and are never hot
