Pleasure to travel with Vietnam Airlines
Have travelled with VN airlines several trips both international and domestic. We are satisfied with their good service, friendly and attentive, good meal menu, wide selections of in flight entertainment. It is worth to join their frequent flight Lotus membership with benefits as priority check in, free upgrading, lounge access. Good job Vietnam airlines!

Impossible to get hold of
I booked my flight with a travel agent on 04/10/19 to Japan via Vietnam because my mum loves this airline and wanting to support Vietnam. Ok, cool what ever. Paid $1000ish for it while direct only 600-700ish at the time.
Now theres a COVID-19 out break, trying to contact them in Melbourne office and Vietnam office is impossible. After 2 minutes on the phone holding, the automated machine on the phone tell you to call back later and hung up the phone EVERYTIME.
I went online to message them on their Facebook fan page. Great reply but unable to...Read more

Vietnam airlines have not issued an authority notice to waive cancelation fees and keep telling me to speak to my agent. What kind of business are you operating? My flight schedule is 01/04/20. I wanna hear human, not automated machine hanging up on me!

Web booking system is completely dysfonctional
*** do not book flights with Vietnam airlines. In case of error on their website, and this is very frequent, you will be forced to pay twice for your flight ***
Hi, I have flown a return flight from London to Ho Chi Minh in December - January 2022/2020. This was my first time dealing with Vietnam airlines. I booked the flights in November through the Vietnam airlines website and the process resulted in multiple unreliabilities and errors and which made me end up with 2 tickets unbeknownst to me.

Baggage Allowances
I have flown with Vietnam Airlines direct Sydney to HCMC for the last five years, generally 5 times per annum. The recent change in baggage allowance for both Economy and Premium Economy from 30kg to 23 kg raises a few questions on why. The simple fact is profit. By reducing this by 7kg per passenger x 280 passengers on a full flight is around 2,000kg. Might not sound like much but one of the airlines biggest expense is fuel. Less kg = less fuel needed. The other issue here is extra luggage and as we all know aisians like shopping particularly ...Read more
premium products and given Oz is way cheaper than Vietnam for premium products they buy up, which equals extra luggage. It costs AUD257 for an extra bag of 23kg and as an example if you have 50 people paying for extra luggage a flight $12k goes to the airline which increases profit margin. VA isn't a bad airline though given their pricing and luggage allowances, they may lose some western customers, maybe not Viets as they are brand loyal, especially VA. Think I might fly Jetstar who fly direct Sydney-HCMC for half the cost.1 comment

Stop moaning
I have flown twice to Vietnam using their national carrier out of the 8 times we have been to Vietnam since 2003 and we have flown dozens of time domestically with VA and the moaning here is obnoxious.
What you have to realise is that the offhanded, frank manner of the Vietnamese is a national trait. They are not being angry or racist (how pampered white people can claim that is beyond me), they are simply being honest. Before you get too upset learn a few Vietnamese words of greeting and thanks and you might get some different reactions.

r a start learn to say em oi (or anh oi or chi oi for males and females older than you) The staff will answer you and will bring whatever you want. Secondly travel business class domestically. It costs not much extra and it stops a lot of unpleasantness. Check in avoiding all the economy class people with their cardboard boxes and you get to go through the VIP queue which is always sparse. The flights might only be an hour or less but they bring you good food a beer or whatever and a special bus meets you at your destination or you get off before the hoi polloi. Air Vietnam have a lot of staff who do not speak good English but it will nearly always be better that your Vietnamese so be patient and stop moaning.1 comment

Disgusting/Racist and Despicable behaviour
I experienced despicable and demeaning behaviour on NYE at the Hoh Chih Minh airport. Your attendance staff for the flight to Siem Reap were rude, racist and disrespectful to me and my family. Your customer service is poor and you show no concern and any help. All your staff did was spread lies and misinformation pass on the responsibility to the higher ups and smile. Confusing online booking system!
I have purchased vietnamairlines ticket several times for domestic and international flights as my parents are vietnamese. The quality was just better than budget airlines that you had check-in luggage and food. However, it is getting worse. We got shock when we received the confirmation emails (some went into the junk mail which I found out 2 weeks later) for the return tickets from BANGKOK-HANOI in Sep this year that excludes check-in luggages. The booking system was really confusing and there was no detail of different classes such as on jet...Read more

When I went to see the CSO at their Melbourne office then they only said that the information is somewhere on the website when you tick on agree to buy then you agree with all their policies (hidden information??). As they have updated the booking interface now they refused to change my tickets. We would have been happy to select other class which include check-in luggage if we have known about that condition. MY name is Ann and we flew to HCM on Flight no VN780 on October 5 2022. the flight was good but the arm rests between the seats are not good because my husband needs to rest his arm and because the controls for the TV screen are on the arm rest he kept putting then light on and off and changing the tv program. Perhaps a hard plastic cover over the controls would be helpful. On the return flight VN 781 21 oct please make sure that immigration forms in English are on board. Not easy to fill in forms after we had landed after an all night flight and nowhere to sit and write on the forms. Otherwise a pleasant flight,

Worst Experience
My name is Matt, I'm 44 years old and I traveled to Vietnam on the 19th of September 2022 with my wife for a 1 month holiday. We both flew home to Australia on the 17th of October 2022. The experience on the flight back to Australia on flight VN781 departing Hanoi at 5pm was absolutely disgraceful, and worse than the initial flight to Ho Chi Minh City from Australia. The staff were rude and arrogant, barging past, kicking and kneeing me at least 10 times, and that was even before take off. Not one excuse me sir or one apology. One particular st...Read more
aff members attitude was disgusting towards myself and other Australian passengers, he was rude, he kicked me several times and acted like nothing had happened. His ignoring of western passengers was not fair or consistent with vietnam airlines company policies and bordered on racism. One stewardess elbowed me in the head and just kept going along with her business. None of the staff smiled once to the western passengers, it was like it was an absolute chore, and made our trip very uncomfortable. On the flight from Australia to Ho Chi Minh City one stewardess spent an unusual amount of time with a Vietnamese passenger, moving him to exit row seating and giving him priority treatment while he wrote a review on the staff, with her standing beside him telling him what to write. My wife had no in-flight entertainment for an 8.5 hr flight, as the tv would still not work after trying to reset it constantly for 3hrs, we were then told if we both wanted in-flight entertainment we could not sit together. The service this company offers is, for lack of a better word, rubbish and that's being nice. Its actually non existent. We will never fly this airline again, if I could have got off mid flight I would have. We tried for one week every day before our flight home to upgrade our flights ( either business class or premium economy ) both we were willing to pay for, or at least get emergency exit seating as I am 6ft 4inches, only to be told there are no available seats. Once on the flight it was clear some of these seats were absolutely vacant, yet they were not made available to us. The way we were treated on this flight was terrible, and i felt we were treated like second class citizens. It felt like to us that the bad treatment was because we were not vietnamese, this is also how we felt after visiting one of your offices several times in Hanoi to try to upgrade our flights we got no help whatsoever, and wasted hours of our holiday. It is so clear flying with your airline that if you are vietnamese you will get much better treatment, this was also apparent from the huge amount of time spent by the in-flight crew with the Vietnamese passengers, we were simply ignored. I have never in my life been made to feel this way. It is the clear reason why I or anyone else I know will never fly with your airline again. Even if it costs us thousands of dollars extra to use another airline, i will not subject myself or my wife to that kind of treatment again. No in-flight menus were supplied, and when we asked the staff they simply said " we don't have enough " What ???? You don't have enough menus to service the amount of customers you have on your plane ????? All these people have paid a lot of money to be on these flights. The food that was served to us, if you can call it served or food, was just thrown at my wife and I. The quality of it was inedible and disgusting. We have no idea what it actually was. The standards you run your airline to are completely sub par and are again rubbish. Paying nearly $2000 for these flights actually makes me quite angry after the way we have been treated and if I had the chance I would demand my money back or wish to be compensated in some other way1 comment

Terrible experience with this airline
I flew from Sydney to London via Hanoi. Every flight leg was delayed between 1 and 4 hours, with the worst being in Hanoi where we waited about 4 hours without know if our flight would be going at all as they removed it from all the TV screens. Luggage arrived to London completely soaked with damaged items. On the return route they managed to lose our luggage and we had a very stressful layover. They were very unresponsive and needed to be called nonstop to do anything. They finally found our luggage at the airport a few hours before our flight. The complaints department is virtually non-existing. Avoid flying this airline

We won't fly with Vietnam airlines again
This is the worse airline by far that we have flown with. And we have traveled extensively around the world via many different airlines. Even though we were traveling via business class, the customer service we got was horrendous. I can't imagine how they treat their economy class customers! First they sent us a change of flight time TWO DAYS before departure (Singapore - Frankfurt) by 2.5 hours earlier! Not 30 minutes, not 45 minutes but 2.5 hours earlier. We do not live in Singapore therefore we naturally had pre-booked weeks before a differe...Read more
nt flight into Singapore, arriving at approx. 3 hours before our original connecting flight with Vietnam Airlines. The gap then didn't allow for 2.5 hours of flight change time. Trying to contact Vietnam airlines by phone is a futile effort. They are worse if not as bad as bargain airlines where it's impossible to get a hold of anyone by phone. Their automated phone system tells you to press X for English but nothing happens. It goes in a loop in Vietnamese. I then had to be creative and called up Singapore airport and asked to be transferred to Vietnam Airlines check in counter. Still didn't get a hold of anyone. Singapore then suggested I contact them via FB chat. So I did...oh my gosh, let me tell you, if I can gouge my eyes out it would have been less painful. Their English is so poor they cannot understand my concern. They kept insisting (for over an hour!!!) that the flight time didn't change even after I sent them screen shots after screen shots of email confirmation and email notification of change time. Why did you send me a notice of time change of flight if the time didn't change?! But they kept insisting they are right. Really? At the end (after 2.5/3 hours of chatting) they finally realized they did change the time. And the answer for that was - we are sorry for the inconvenience. REALLY? That's it? No offer to cover the cost of our new flight booking in order to connect to their flight, clearly all their fault. Unbelievable! Anyway, as far as business class goes, this airline is crap. Their toilets stink of urine (and there's always a random wash cloth on the floor that I think the flight attendants use to clean the floor?!) and it's the size of an economy class bathroom. The seats, while roomy like a typical business class cabin, are old, dirty and disgusting. They really need new upholstery. There are hardly any nooks and crannies to put away your stuff - no different than a premium economy in SIA for example. Flight attendants are friendly enough but they hardly spoke English. They really need to train their staff better if they want to be a global airline, that's all I have to say. Lounges are sub-par. You get better foods at the restaurants in the airport and seating much cleaner outside the lounges (in Vietnam). Stains on their seats and chairs and tables not cleaned on a timely basis. Disgusting. Never again.1 comment

Hello Sally,
Thank you for your question.
Yes, we offer stopover program to our passengers, which includes hotel, meals, excursion, transfers and even visa for most tickets. (certain limits exist on promotional fares)
This service is free of charge, however it should be booked at least 48 hours in advance and you need to provide your passport details.
If your travel agent has any questions regarding this service, - we are more than happy to explain - he just needs to contact us. .

Hello Ariella,
Thank you for your request. Its hard to say anything as I do not see your reservation.
Please note, for future services you need to kindly contact your travel agent where you purchased your tickets and request to book your seats. Alternatively, you can login your reservation at our website and choose available seats 24 hours before departure.
Regarding meals, we do not offer Kosher Meals from Australia, We are sorry about that. We can offer vegetarian meals instead (they do not violate Kashrut, however we do not guarantee that kitchen equipment that we use was never in contat with milk or meat). If you are very careful about keeping kosher. you will need to take care about your own food.
Please note, Kosher food may be available on your flight from Paris to Vietnam, it should be requested by your agent in advance.

No, drinks should be included. VN Airlines is great when it comes to providing food and drink in the cabin.
They just suck at not making last minute changes to people’s schedules.
Agree with Brain L - they are a "full service" airline, not a budget carrier. No need to buy anything on board. Only issue sometimes is finding the crew to help you - so don't be afraid to get up and walk to the galley to look for them.
No you don’t need money though they run out of European food even breakfast and are never hot
