One of the best cars ive driven.
I have a 2015 golf comfort line, manual. What a great car! very smooth on the road, great on fuel and a fantastic interior with all the gadgets you could need. running costs are fairly low with capped price servicing for the first 3 years.Plenty of boot room and space at the rear seats.

Fantastic Car!! (90TSI 6S Manual)
- The engine feels very responsive.
- Haven't had any issues with the motor yet (40,000kms)
- Interior is easily best in class. Especially when comparing against the Focus and Mazda 3.
- Fuel efficiency is fantastic even with a lead foot. Average l/100 is 7.1 for a majority of peak hour stop and start traffic.
- One downside is the need for 95 Unleaded however.
- One major disadvantage of VW's in general is the ridiculous fees that are charged for servicing them at a VW service centre.

VW golf wagon - best car
Such a pleasure to drive. Apart from the superior handling and complete silence from within the cabin - the dashboard and music features are so good! I connect my iPhone and apple car play starts up. It reads my text messages to me and google maps comes up on the screen. Plays my music, let’s me talk hands free, it’s great. Automatic lights and windscreen wipers are also a nice addition. I bought my car from Sydney city VW at Botany after a poor experience with the sales people at Sutherland VW.
This is the 3rd VW golf I’ve owned and I can’t fault it. It has great pick up and can overtake easily.

Love this car.
I am a car nut and I have high expectations from my cars. I used to own a Peugeot 307 diesel from which I had a good run for 10 years, nothing wrong but i was ready to change up to something new.
Driving the Golf is always a pleasant experience. I live in an area with twisty demanding roads and the Golf has fantastic handling. The ride, though firm, is always comfortable. (Much better than the Peugeot.) The seating is supportive and comfortable, again much better than the Pug.
Its safety features are amazing. I have the driver assistance...Read more
pack which gives radar cruise control, park assist, blind spot monitoring and autonomous emergency braking. The radar cruise is great. I can go up the freeway at the set speed, when the traffic thickens as we approach Melbourne it automatically slows, then resumes set speed as the traffic clears. Its self parking for a reverse park is great fun though I don't use it much, I can actually do it myself.... The bay parking (90 degrees, not parallel) isn't as good, it reverses into the space and always takes 2 stabs at it, I can drive in forwards in one go which is quicker and simpler. Fuel economy is very good for a petrol car, though not as good as the Peugeot Diesel I had previously. I am not getting as good as the stated figure of 5.4 l/100 km, I am getting generally a bit under 6.0 though it is still decreasing so it might still be running in. I have done 7000 km so far. I keep the drive mode set to E (economy) and I do drive pretty gently. Although the car is slightly longer than my previous Pug, the boot space is smaller. The floor is higher and the length and width not quite as good. I have 2 elderly parents with wheely walkers, they easily went into the boot in the Pug but they have to be carefully fitted into the boot of the Volksy. The walkers, not the parents, though I get tempted...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I love my golf!
I absolutely love my Golf. It is very fuel efficient and extremely smooth to drive. The added features like Apple play console, parking assist features are very generous inclusions for the base model to have.
This is the second golf I have owned and I can’t imagine wanting to drive a different car anytime in the near future.

Love that car!
I have loved owning this Golf R over the past 3 years, and it has done nothing but perform to my highest of expectations. I love the interior and power and performance. I have had no issues and Volkswagen Australia have been a dream to work with.

I AM VERY UNDERSTANDING TO A POINT.
We bought 2 x VW golfs high line 1 x petrol and 1 x diesel. We bought them on the time the diesel scandal was in the media. We were told the diesel wouldn't impact us and yet it did. I also had an Audi SQ% diesel which i had placed for sale a month before the scandal for $94,000 and i changed my mind after i had a lot of interest thinking what would i buy next..I realized i would regret it.
As it was a such a nice car. i tried selling it when the scandal came out then i could only get $72k.
The diesel VW golf was returned to the dealer...Read more

Smooth Ride
This car is just amazing, it is so smooth and handles great. You don't feel any bumps or potholes on the road. Top quality throughout. German engineering at its best. With lots of power the two litre 110TDI highline Diesel is the the one to lookout for.
A very safe and reliable vehicle with capped servicing you can't go wrong. Take a test drive & good luck.

Refinement for budget price
Purchased new 21months ago, 6 speed manual in white with hubcaps, so the most basic model. Despite this all important comfort and safety features are included.
Engine performance, especially low down torque was very impressive, surprisingly felt as strong as the diesel version. Motorway of driving around town is all very comfortable with enough power. The handling and ride is terrific, you can really drive it to the limits and have some fun, you just go a bit slower than the people with GTI’s and R’s.
I swap out the wheels and tires almost i...Read more

Love this car
I have the auto Comfortline and I love it. I unfortunately wrote off my 2015 manual demo after a glorified fender bender. Luckily insurance replaced it with a brand new 2017 version, and the Comfortline is no longer available in manual. Now I'm used to auto I'm not sure I could go back. Fuel economy isn't quite as good as the manual but it's still fantastic. Get about 750 to a tank if I do just city driving. If I go between Melbourne and Geelong a few times I can get that up to 850kms off a tank. I always use 98 premium which costs more at the ...Read more
bowser but I think it works out cheaper with the milage I get. Love the quality of the build. Everything inside and out looks premium. Having Apply Car Play now is a great addition. Road noise is really quiet too. For mine, there isn't a better looking car in the same size and price range. Would definitely purchase again.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Golf R variant = superb
I bought this brand new and killed its warranty the next day by tuning it to Stage1 and then Stage2. (0 to 100 time is 3.4 seconds) Its quick enough now to keep up and beat some $140k+ cars like AMG, BMW M and Audi RS. Now that's value for money considering it only cost me $68k for car including all the tunes, upgrades, and major repairs. And yet it still drives like a luxury car, interior is pretty good, exterior not too bad but could do with improvement.
Its been 2.5 years now I've done 65,000 KM.
Problems so far:

Golf R has been great
The Golf R is my third VW and has been thus far as reliable and great to drive as the others. Running costs services have been, in my opinion, reasonable and most importantly I have been very satisfied with the dealer. The handling and roadholding is great and the performance is terrific. In fact there is almost too much performance (heresy?) for suburban driving but when you need it to go it does! The DSG is so smooth and gear changes are almost imperceptible.
There is some tyre noise but with such low profile tyres this cannot be easily av...Read more

Rubbish
Well let's start with a positive.
It's a very nice car to drive, steers and handles well.
Otherwise we've had nothing but issues since we bought it in 2014.
We had the engine ticking noise which vw refused to admit until I insisted they fix it.
Now, just out of warranty, with only 10,000k we have the DSG/clutch shudder issue, which according to VW Five Dock is not something they will admit exists! Apparently it will cost around $3000 to fix though.
Seriously, don't buy a golf or any VW car with DSG.
And no comments from those who blame the driver please.

Second Clutch second gear selector never again
With 3000 km on the clock stuck in south Australia on holidays the clutch failed and gear selector failed vw Australia was very poor in admitting it's a lemon the infortment system was also playing up not working not turning on this took over 12 months to fix. Now 55000 km on the clock we are back where we started. After fighting with Werribee vw the you best friends to sell you a car but when it all goes to crap they don't want to know you typical I would recommend a golf to anyone and as for vw Australia multi billion dollar company where your loyalty to customers wipe me like a piece of crap like you cars.

From a dream car to a lemon within 4 years
Overall the driving experience has been fantastic with super quick acceleration from a stop at traffice lights. However in the last months of the warranty the DSG gearbox failed and was replaced under warranty but there was still some whining noise coming from the engine bay while driving and recently got worse with severe knocking noise.
The last straw was when a GEARBOX ERROR message appeared on the dash and nearly stalled the car mid driving. Took it back to my local VW dealer who advised that there was a major flaw with the Mechtronics which controlled the gears and mentioned that the whole gear box will need to replaced now. This has soured my taste for VW and will probably go back a reliable Toyota again.

Great Car - Plenty of power
Mine is a manual, so I enjoy going through the gears.
Very nice to drive even for an old geezer like me.
I have nothing but praise for the engineering and smooth operation of this vehicle
A lot of automatic controls even in the windscreen, that make replacements costly
Makes me feel good

GTI rocket!
Bought an ex demonstrator GTI from Leichhardt Golf in Sydney. Have been using it for day to day for a few months and I have to say it's a little ripper!
It's a manual, with optioned leather seats and sunroof.
Performance wise, you couldn't ask more for a little hot hatchback. First gear is a bit underwhelming, but second gear races out and takes you above 100kmh with ease.
The different driving modes do actually make a difference to how the car drives, surprisingly. Sport mode tightens up the steering considerably, and the suspension ...Read more
is much less forgiving. Comfort mode and normal mode are pretty much the same feel. Internally the looks are great. The red trim and LEDs on the front internal doors all add up to a great looking car. The optioned leather bucket seats are very comfortable and do their job when racing round a corner. The infotainment unit has Apple Car Play, and works reasonably well. The gear stick has the golf ball top which is a nice touch.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

I have had my golf for about a month now and thought it would be worth posting my impressions since I spent a lot of time looking for a good consumer review of this exact model before buying it. Most Consumer reviews have focused in on the GTI and R which is understandable.
Pros:

Wonderful Car is most respects, except reliability.
Brought our Golf used at 54k, great car to drive, super comfy, crazy fuel efficient, great amount of power.
However, lots of issues in the 2 or so years we've owned as follows;
Slip between 2nd and 3rd great with DSG, replaced under warranty would have cost me $1700 if not.
Rattle in dump gate, fixed under warranty about a year ago, has returned again, a better part which should fix this issue for good is on backorder
Informational unit - Audio unit packed it in a month back, just been completely replaced under warranty, if I held the eject button in for 10 seconds while in operation it would start back up, this included the reversing camera also. (not sure how much this would have been to fix but not cheap)

" Mr. Fix it "asked
Has anyone had a remote control car key die and found any alternative to paying the $620 VW want for a new one please? My car is a 2016 Golf TDI, auto Mark 7
Thank you, John.

Good luck John. In my experience, VW are not helpful and are very expensive. My golf does not have a remote key but you would think they would have a battery that could be replaced as other remote devices do. Maybe that’s just another way VW makes more money.
Thanks Meredith but I have changed the battery and it still doesn't work. Looks like it needs a new internal PCB.
Thanks anyway, regards John.

My car is a 2016 TDI Golf hatchback Highline. Could you please tell me if it is a mrk 6 or 7 and also the windscreen dimensions? Thanks.

Logically check your manual or sales doco first
Hi Sandra. I have just needed to find an answer to the same question. I've been through all the documentation including service book, sales dockets etc. and came up blank. A good Google search provided the answer. The easy answer is ... if you have rounded tail lights, it's Mk 6, if they are sharp edged design, Mk 7. Mark 7 also has the sophisticated "Infotainment System" with GPS and lots of other choices (radio, car, menu etc.) in the middle of the dash.
Regards, John.

I have since had the gearbox replaced under warranty..thank god for that otherwise I would've been $10K out of pocket, but I still feel uneasy driving the Golf now since the exchange.
