Definitely Not a User-Friendly Card
Very Inconvenient compared to most of its peers. 1) Strange cutoff time. eg. I withdrew money from ATM in the morning, it will appear in the account as of the next day and accounted in for the daily limit for next day, so the daily limit effectively covers two days; 2) You cannot move the surplus money back out to your Westpac accounts unless you clear the account entirely and move the whole balance at one go which is ridiculous. You cannot move your AUD balance out and leave your USD in there for example.

Left us stranded, Twice !!
Used card twice in 1 day at Walmart. Booked our next Motel. Arrived 8.30 pm, told our card was declined. Spent over 2 hrs on phone to Sydney to be told" Nothing I can do as the westpac Fraud Dept. had stopped the card. We were told to not use it shopping (?), but withdraw from ATM. Went to England, withdrew from an ATM. Had to make another withdrawal and Card was declined, Again, with No notification to the card holder !
Left us with no money for food or accommodation !
Ok they're trying to protect you, but the way they do it, just leaves you, high n dry, with no access to your own money!
There's better cards out there !

VERY frustrating to use
Travelled to Japan and have the GCC as separate accounts for self and partner. My app was working ok until last day where it just "hung" whenever I tried to access it. There were no issues with internet access. My partner on the other hand could not access it at all...kept getting an error message re internet access (which was not correct as other apps were working). Very frustrating. Now back home and trying to redeem balance and that does not seem to be working! Have transferred remaining balance to my AUD account but the message still says t...Read more
here is a "pending transaction" and so I cannot redeem my balance. I don't think I will be using this again as it was not reliable....this despite the fact that I like that it is linked to my other WBC accounts. What is needed it further development to make it more user friendly and stable - very important as you are generally overseas when using the product and cannot always get the required assistance.Similar opinion? Bureaucratic Rip Off
I just tried to redeem my funds after returning from a trip to Italy. The on-line system does not allow me to redeem any funds because of a pending transaction of 1 euro.
The majority of my remaining funds were still in Aus dollars but the 'policy' is that no funds can be redeemed if there are pending transactions. I cannot believe that it is not possible to leave a balance on the card to the value of any pending transactions and be able to redeem any remaining balance. Unless of course the 'policy' actually means the bank wants to hold on...Read more
to my money interest free. The bank is still making money - quoted exchange rates are generally 3% lower than the official exchange rates. Now they also get an interest free deposit . The card is a rip-off. Mike

No problems using in USA
Just got back from USA. Was concerned as I had read all the reviews but was too late to change. Used it at shops and ATMs with no problems at all. Took 6 days to have unused money returned to my account. Had no issues finding the right ATM. Took few minutes to understand how to use the app initially. Will use again.

Terrible, impossible to use.
Have been on a chat with westpac bank for hours trying to simply figure out how to add japanese yen to the card. They don't know, the link does not work & you cant call them from OS if you only have internet access (you need to make an international call). ridiculous.

Do not use this card
Do not use this card. Although this card is easy to set up and use, getting your money back is impossible - you may not get it back. The "customer service" staff just put you on hold and then pass you to someone else who will then do the same, and will probably hang up on you. They will tell you that the information on the website is not correct, and have excuse after excuse after excuse as to why your money hasn't come through. I can't believe Westpac is associated with this awful product. Steer clear.

Easy to use
Wow, can't believe there's so many negative reviews! Maybe I'm the lucky one??! I've been a long term Westpac customer, so I took on their promotion and tried this card out when I traveled to Europe in October. I love the instant load from my Westpac account, I used other travel money card before, had to wait for bank transfer.
I went to Germany, France and UK, no problem using this card at shops or ATM. The app worked well, easy to check my balance and convert money.
The only annoying part was somehow the chip didn't work so I couldn't tap to pay, had to insert and sign every time.
There's been a delay, but I finally got the $50 promotional cash back.

Excuses Excuses Excuses
I purchased foreign currency on my Global currency card on September 30th. The deal is purchase a minimum of AUD 1500 and an amount of AUD 50 will be credited to my account within 60 days. That period has come and gone and despite speaking to the staff at the Carindale QLD branch I am still waiting for the credit to my account. The staff advised me to make weekly checks. Why should I be inconveniented to that extent. Will give WESTPAC a wide berth. They simply don't care about customers.. I must stress I had no issues with using the card overse...Read more
as. It worked as expected. My issue is with the incompetent Westpac staff who is supposed to ensure that the bank's obligations to its customers are fulfilled. The Bank is only as competent as the staffing it employs.2 comments
Visited the Carindale branch of Westpac this morning. Consultant made a call to Global currency division. Was advised the matter should be resolved soon but no timeline given. Still waiting for cash back

Useless
Don't get this card. Travelled to USA. Card would only work on Bank of America ATMS if u could find one. Time and time again Arms rejected card. Rang help line they stated no problem with card. Still didn't work. Luckily my credit card worked or I would be buffered. Not good enough Westpac for promoting this product. Also you can obtain the balance but not transactions.

Don't use it!
I got the Westpac Global Currency Card because I am their customer and wanted to support them. However, this has become a nightmare. I deposited money into the account and converted to Singapore dollars before I left Australia. The card worked for a few times then stopped working. I then tried to activate the secondary card on line. The website tells me there was an error and that I would have to call Westpac. As I'm overseas, it would be too expensive to call them.
I then wrote to a banker I know. He called Global Currency Card Centre. Apparen...Read more

Charged $4 for using the card at a Westpac ATM
I used my global currency card to withdraw money at a Westpac ATM yesterday and I was charged a $4 fee. According to the PDS, no fee will be charged if you withdraw money from a Westpac ATM. When I called up the Customer Servce line I was told that it was a system error and that they were looking into it. When I asked the staff if I would be refunded the fee, she was unable to confirm if that would happen or when it would happen. I am disappointed with her response to say the least. Westpac should make some kind of announcement or notify cardholders about this system error and assure them that they would reverse the fees charged as soon as they are able to fix the problem.

This is a sham
I have been trying to get the balance of the funds from my GCC put back into my Westpac account.
The bank had so many convoluted processes. The internet banking system is not user friendly and requires separate GCC access to your main banking. By presenting myself to one of the large branches in Sydney city Westpac finally said they would arrange the transfer. It is now over five weeks and nothing happened.
I have put in a complaint with their dispute resolution team and still no resolution. They say they are monitoring the funds...Read more

This card is a total waste of money
We used this card for 4 months while traveling in Europe and the US.
Mostly it just gave us problems and we would never use again.
We had real difficulties accessing the online system to see the actual balance since we had loaded it in 3 different currencies. It just wouldn’t load despite having solid 3G status. So a few times the currency got “exchanged” from another currency type without our knowing as we couldn’t see the balance. This was annoying as we were working in the dark and got charged a lot of fees.
Then our card got blocked random...Read more

Lucky to get even 1 Star!
I’ve used this card three times in the States and won’t be using it anymore.
Besides the fact that most financial institutions are just greedy, it gives a terrible exchange rate. Then when you exchange it back, it gives you an even worse rate.
The ATM fees are rediculous. They claim ‘X’ amount of free partnered ATM’s but they’re next to impossible to find.
I think the worst feature is that it’s linked to my Westpac account so the money goes in immediately via transfer, but when I elected that same account to return the unused holiday money, ...Read more

Big FAIL!!
I wont be getting this card again I have lost hundreds of dollars in charges so even though the AUD is more than the NZD it made no difference as the money that should have been saved was swallowed up entirely with fees!...so I will be cutting this card up and closing that account in the coming days for sure.

Travel card blocked repeatedly
Card was blocked after a few normal transactions. Phoned to get it unblocked. Used again, then blocked. Another phone call and no explanation. Extremely inconvenient and annoying. Try a different travel card.

Absolute rubbish!
The app doesn't work. Couldn't access my account via any device without activating my card each time with new password each time. I am so frustrated and angry that I was sold such a dud. Westpac have the wrong website on the paperwork and wasn't until I called the contact centre that I was informed the correct address to login. I have wasted so much time, including on the phone and in a branch trying to get the cards to work as they should. Even the Westpac call centre couldn't get it to activate via the app. Totally regret going to Westpac!!! I now have 2 days left before I leave for my trip and no time to get another card delivered.
