If you forget to pack your cards - you're screwed
I realised 5 hours in on my 14 hour flight, I'd left my cards in my wardrobe. I assumed they could arrange replacement cards. I was wrong. My only options were to revert my US$ back to AUD at a huge loss and then pay a fee to get the funds sent via Western Union and then get the AUD exchanged back into US$. Considering the size and profit margin Westpac makes on its prepaid Global Credit Card, you'd think they have a system to deal with this type of situation. The Bank of America is one of their Global Alliance banks, why can't they issue me with a replacement card? I won't use them again and when I get home, I will take it further.

Crap so many issues plus fees

Worst Phone Reps Ever
Made a call to enquire about the Westpac Global Currency card and Philippino rep named [name removed] had such a bad internet connection he couldn't communicate properly due to terrible lag. Then he transferred me to Melbourne, who said that I needed to talk to customer service and they then transferred me back to [name removed] who then transferred me to Melbourne who then didn't answer the phone. Absolutely useless service. Do not use!

Beware of GCC Product
An existing Westpac Customer Applying, receiving & activating card was simple. But the experience to buy Euro's, rate not competitive & then to revert back to Aussie again Rate not competitive. After working it out, lost $580 just into thin air or Westpac Air. But the most annoying & bewildering situation is how long is the process to redeem balance to b credited back into ur chosen account 10 working days. What gets me is, it's a westpac account that I've transferred to.. I'm talking over $5k it's no small change its been 7 workin days & stil...Read more
l no funds credited.. It's quick to transfer funds in the card? How about I take my time making my mortgage payments, westpac will b over me like a rash. Is westpac earning their interest on my funds? Do they own the Global Currency Card Product? It's all very interesting in the banking sector " it's not all what it seems"

Waste of my time
Had to cancel my debit card while travelling and assumed I would be able to use this instead. It would often not work even when I had sufficient funds. It takes days for money to transfer to the card if at all. Tried using b pay and paying using Bsb and account number. I'm very lucky I was travelling with friends who I could borrow money from otherwise I would have been stuck in Turkmenistan with no money and been deported.

No complaints as everything worked well
I'm not going to lie I was a bit unsure about choosing westpac for my travel card as the online reviews were a bit up and down but I did so much research and saw all travel cards had the positives and negatives.
I'm already a westpac customer so it made ordering the card online easy. The only bump I had was I waited roughly two weeks and the card hadn't come in despite it saying it would arrive earlier. I called customer service and they were extremely helpful and sent out new cards. I received the new cards in less than a week.

Worked great
Used this card on a 3 week trip through America and it worked great.
Used the bpay option to load money onto the card before i left and it was on the card within a couple of days.
I had no issues withdrawing from ATM'S or using the card through the eftpos machines when purchasing goods.
Would happily use again.

Hopeless
I tries to transfer from my bank account direct to card. Funds came out of account but not onto card. Phones support and they told me these transfers did not always work. I suggested the card was flawed - Support argued that is wasn't flawed as it worked some ties for some customers. What??? Took 5 days to get money back.

The worst product ever. Service is not good either :-(
Transferred money from the cheque account to my global currency on 30th June and still the money is not in either of my accounts. I called customer service and was told the money will be on my account within 48 hours it's 4 July now which is 4 days and no money in sight. Not using this product again.

Won't allow us to access money in our account. Left in another country with no accommodation and no
Unable to withdraw money or use card after just a few days in Japan, still with two weeks left and our tokyo accommodation to pay before we can check in. When we contacted westpac to get assistance in accessing our money, online they said we have no daily limit so it shouldn't be a problem however over the phone they said we have exceeded a limit and there was nothing they were going to do to allow us to access OUR money. We are now stranded in Tokyo with no money and no accommodation for the night. Absolutely disgusting company and despicable customer service.

Westpac live online banking not available
Transfer of funds between accounts (my Westpac Choice to Currency Card) did not work, system was down. It'll take 24-48 hours before money is returned. Other options (Pay Anyone and BPAY) take long too.

I loved my card, worked perfectly
I have used my card about a dozen times across America and Europe and have never had any problems using it at all. Love the new instant funding from Online banking (better than the old BPay loads). Also use mine for online shopping in USD. I also use the ATM locater attached to my online banking so can see which ATM's I can use without getting charged a fee.

Your doing it wrong.
Load your card instantly through Westpac Live Online Banking. Ive had no problem with card on 3 trips to UK. Always use it as way of getting cash out and only use Barclays bank (no ATM fee). When you get back, transfer to AUD and spend it!

Worst Card Ever.
3 years ago I got the Westpac card. 3 days to load money, not instantaneous. Partner had Comm Bank Card - loaded immediately. But - made human error yesterday - instead of transferring funds to credit card - transferred the funds to the Global Card. Instantaneous. Went into Global Card site to rectify and transfer funds back - 10 business days for the transaction to be rectified. I mean - this is internal banking and should go both ways. Rang up Westpac - service was good, but was told the Global Card 'is an external party'. C'mon! I work in IT - if I can transfer the funds IN, I should be able, as part of my accounts VIEW to transfer them back. Westpac - please get your act together.

Pathetic!!
Transferred funds Saturday via mobile "instant" app. now Thursday and still no money on card. This is pathetic in an age of instant transfers. Why promote a product that doesn't perform?
November 7th 2017 Update: Update from previous comments
A recent update has improved my opinion, still a bit cumbersome but with the ability to reload immediately via Westpac’s mobile banking it has improved. I still hate the banks for their rip off exchange rates.

Long delay to load funds. Unfavourable exchange rate.
I have not used my card overseas yet but reading the other reviews I am getting somewhat concerned. My issue with the card is the delay between a fund transfer via Bpay and the funds being available. I transferred funds on Monday and it's now Thursday and the funda are still not available for me to convert in another currency. The exchange rate is also unfavourable. Based on the reviews, I will cease loading funds on my card and exchange cash instea in thr lead up to my trip.

If I could rate this less than 1 I would
I originally used this card when travelling through the USA and had no problems with the actual use of the card, the exchange rate however leaves a lot to be desired.
I have however just returned from Myanmar (Burma) and when there I had nothing but problems with the use of the card, in fact it was actually impossible to use. I was unable to withdraw money from any ATM's nor was I able to pay for anything through an eftpos terminal. I had USD loaded on the card which many hotels and restaurants in Myanmar accept as currency yet for some unkn...Read more
own reason I was unable to access any of MY money. I called the support line and was told that my card had been blocked as the fraud team wanted to check with me about recent transactions. All well and good that the fraud team blocked the cards because of suspected suspicious transactions, it would have been nice to be notified though. A simple email would suffice "Hey we noticed some strange activity on your card, were these transactions conducted by you? Yes/No." not hard. It took me to call them before I was even aware my card had been blocked. Once unblocked I returned to the ATM only to be knocked back again, this card simply does not work. So here I am in Myanmar with no access to my money through that card with my only option to withdraw funds from the card and use my standard debit Mastercard (which would attract higher fee's, the whole reason I signed up to get this 'Global Currency Card'). Hang on a second though, it takes 10 BUSINESS DAYS to take any money off. Funny how putting money onto the card is instantaneous however it takes 10 days for me to get MY MONEY back. I will never use this card again and strongly advise against anyone doing so.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
Exchange rates unsatisfactory
Having applied for the card, it arrived in a few days and it loaded easily using internet banking. The mobile app worked well while we were traveling across Canada and USA. We were aware of the need to find partner ATM's and so we obtained cash reasonably OK. Using it as a credit/debit card worked well.
The problem: The exchange rate differential. I loaded AUD to USD at 0.714 and the unused cash I retrieved at equivalent of 0.800 6 weeks later with no great change in exchange rates generally.
Summary: the card worked OK, but the giant sting in the tail is when you the exchange rates.
(PS we got much better exchange rates with a citi bank credit card despite the international transaction fees)

NEVER AGAIN!!
If you want my honest opinion run away run far away from this card. Firstly it would not let me change my pin so I phoned support and they did it for me, figured I would check the balance before I left and was denied access wrong PIN number. Went into a branch and had to go through it a third time before the card would work. Next comes the fee every time you deposit on the card, then the exchange fee, when you get to your destination good luck finding the ATMs that are free so anywhere from $4 to $6 each withdrawal. Card would not work over th...Read more
e phone to book tours so had to resort to my normal credit card. When you get home you jump more hurdles to get your money, you have to change back to AUD and apply over the phone it can take 15 days to transfer back to your normal account. I could keep going but conclude by saying it is nothing but a rip off.......Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
If you would like to get yourself in poor situations go right ahead and get yourself this card
HELLO FELLOW TRAVELERS.
I am currently traveling for and extended period of time and this card has been more of a headache than my hangovers, and trust me they haven't been pretty.
Sometimes when travelling you will find yourself needing money quickly and conveniently, this card DOES NOT help in that regard.
Firstly if you B-pay onto this card have fun waiting for 2 days for it to go into your account, transferring it on a weekend, SEEYA LATER, that money will take even longer to process. Even transferring it through accounts is a lengthy...Read more
