MX8 - DONT WASTE YOUR MONEY
The best thing about this was the TV ad. It sucked me in. Biggest piece of junk. Stops the moment a leaf drops in the pool and continually “chokes”. As per instruction from Zodiac service we removed the yellow insert to open up the intake. This did not improve the effectiveness of the MX8. After many breakdowns we had it replaced under warranty then had continual problems with the replacement MX8. Replaced both drive motors; drive tracks and central impellers. Very disappointed and it isn’t cheap to buy. Through frustration have now bought a Baracuda T3 and fingers crossed we have better luck with this one. If not I will never buy or recommend Zodiac products. Currently have a zodiac chlorinator and filter all recently purchased.

Money maker for Zodiac
This cleaner is Zodiacs way of printing money as it is junk. We have had ours for nearly 3years and it has been fully rebuilt 4 times and had 14 drive tracks replaced at $20 each.($280.00)
Our pool is concrete with pebelcrete finish and the unit gets stuck on stair edges constantly which causes, if not constantly checking, the tracks to strip there rubber drive teeth.
I will say WHEN IT WORKS the pool is spotless
Be warned dont even think of buying an MX8 you will go broke repairing it.
Zodiac should give every purchaser their money back on this expensive machine.

Junk!!!
MX8 is absolute junk. Has never worked properly from day 1. Rolls off its tracks every 5 minutes. Zodiac support non-existent. Still under warranty but Zodiac just brushed me off. Had it repaired by the pool shop. Worked for a week and rolled off the tracks again. Discussed with the pool shop who advised Zodiac know for problems. Just have to keep rolling the tracks back on. Nothing else I can do. I will never by a Zodiac product again.

Please help
Had no problems until this yr. starts, stops, we have changed all the parts all looks good. If I take the filter out it runs around fine. Climbs the walls easy and as soon as I put the filter back in it plays up. We took it into the pool shop and he said it looks ok but still he won’t work.
I am not to sure what to do now

Frustrating product
Although ease to use and will admit when it works it is great but doesn't work most the time.
Ultimately have replaced the wheel rubbers every 6months, so a continuation of costs (they aren't cheap).
Having only replaced them 2 months ago now I have one "wheel" not rotating. So the unit cleaning about 1m area of the pool. Seems not to be the rubber this time.
I normally don't write reviews but this product hasn't lived up to expectations and wanted to share my experience.
I think I spend more time manually cleaning my pool with this cleaner. I always thought zodiac was a good quality product but now.... hummm!

Not worth what I had to pay!
Have only had this for a few hours. It won't move more than a few feet and then it stops. 10 revolutions take 55 seconds. Have the flow valve at full open - this did not help. This is not a good machine!! Printed Users manual - this is no help at all. Going to talk to Leslies in the morning. My old machine works better than this.

Zodiac MX8 Pool Cleaner
This product works spasmodically, but gets stuck on steps and walls all the time. Plus it climbs to the top of the pool and fills everything with air. Apart from that, it only works if your pool is clean to start with. Please, please, please, heed my words - this product is useless!

Biggest Headache in my Life
I have a MX8 connected to a 2 speed pump. It has been working fine on both high and low speed until a couple weeks ago. Now it doesn't move, doesn't do the walls. Sometimes it moves slowly and the it will just stop. I've had the pump people out and the say the pumps is working fine. I've installed a new "Factory Tune Up Kit" and still no luck. When calling Zodiac, don't get much assistance. Looks like we have got a lemon on our hands.

I have a rectangle pool roughly 10K gallons, not screened. It was installed in 2000. I live in Florida so its almost always pool season. I originally had a three wheeled cleaner (no name bashing), it worked ok but within six months it developed transmission gear problems and I had to repair it four times before I had it two years. his lasted for many years. The only part I would have to replace is the ribber diaphragm every 18 months or so. I was recommended the MX8 Elite by my local pool store. I really didn't want to plunk down that much money but there was a big rebate and an inline catch basket thrown in. I'v had it now for 16 months. I have to say I am very very pleased with this product. Does it occasionally get jammed? Yes, once about every two weeks or so. My pool is not screened and there are trees around it. But it cleans EVRYWHERE. Up the sides, all over. Every pool cleaner used in a pool that is not screened will get jammed at some point. I know, I've had three. Leaves and normal debris don't clog it but acorns and long weeds (weed trimming debris) can. The inline basket catches debris that used to clog my pool pump filter and motor and motor filter. Terrible pool cleaner
This pool cleaner has been the worst one that we have ever owned.
You cannot leave it running without supervising it as it constantly jams up- even with the smallest of leaves.
You have to sit there, watch and wait till it gets jammed, then un jam it and send it on its way again.
Shocking pool cleaner and I do not recommend it to anyone!

Surprisingly badly flawed
I have had an mx 8 cleaner from new for approximately 8 months. I was surprised to see it working and not being stuck this morning but only because the tyre track had slipped off for the umpteenth time. Other than the tyres now being loose(not worn) and the main issue is that the unit itself gets small paperbark leaves stuck in it, which is perplexing as all the other cleaners handle this without an issue. an a couple of days or even a couple of hours after a heavy wind.Then the make matters worse leaves get stuck on the inside ridges inside the hose and eventually block the pipe. The proprietary hose cuff system where the hoses join suck air. Expensive product. Poor quality
Our MX8 has been a reasonable pool cleaner until the front wheel broke off. The plastic shaft that the wheel was attached to is part of the pool cleaner chassis. I.E - it is now worthless and scrap plastic. We had a few small issues whilst under warranty but were fixed by the manufacturer however, the cleaner is now useless. This same problem has already been logged by other owners of the same model. Save your money and buy something cheaper as I would expect far more longevity out of a product that costs so much.

Poorly designed and manufactured
Never worked properley and suffered frequent faults including broken wheels, broken tracks and other problems which were really annoying as we had paid $900 for this product. Never had longer than 6 months before it stopped working and on one occasion it was only 2 months. I checked with other people who had purchased this product and they all had problems. When it works it is OK, but I am going to have to find another cleaner which will work and meet it's warranty obligations.

Excellent experience, but important to understand what to monitor
We purchased this 2 years ago for a 9 x 4 concrete pool & have never looked back.
I have read a few of the negative responses & I can relate to some, but it was really as a result of what I did or did not do. Important that you understand how many rotations the wheel on your unit needs to complete on installation which can effect performance. Also pool filter needs to be backwashed to maximise suction & therefore best performance of the unit. Best tip I can offer is to always check the units progress if you are near the pool. A Few Months in !! Working perfectly
Have the MX-8 unit with Cyclonic Scrubber Head kit fitted. Pool has been spotless and very happy since installation. I particularly like that my pool surface is swept by the brushes and unit picks up all debris and has no trouble. Recommend the many on-line videos that actually show you the best way to install.

Just over one year old and it's stopped working.
Just had to pull my MX 8 out of the pool as its sat in the same spot for a day or two.
It is only 14 months old. One of the new (5 week old) replacement tracks has been stripped of drive teeth, so After an investigative strip down I found three bits of a circlip wedged in various gears in the gearboxes, I have found where they are supposed to go, just hope Zodiac keep up their end on the warranty, looks like it's going to need a full set of innerds!

Great cleaner, but constantly replacing parts
I've had the cleaner 18 months now, keeps the pool sparkling clean, however I'm on my third set of tracks, I'm only running the speed on low too. one of two clips on the connector for the hose is broken, and now one of the tracks is not working, feels like something is stripped inside, now I'm about to pull it apart to find what part I have to replace now.

Works great but expensive to own
Got my zodiac in 2010 had issues in first 3 months. Called company, they sent a whole new unit and I've been replacing parts ever since on both units. They work great when working but parts wear out too frequently. I think I've spent close to a new unit price on repairs now. Not sure if any it's worth $ repairing them so often or what's better on the market?

6 months and its broken already
The MX8 was provided as part of the pool package I purchased. I have been using the cleaner on average twice a week however after 6 months its stopped working. The tractor wheels on one side are no longer working so the cleaner sits stationary on the bottom of the pool. Another observation on the performance of MX8 is that leafs the approximate size of a gum tree leafs consistently get stuck inside the cleaner. quite a maintenance overhead. Lastly, my pool has both a kids step around the side of the pool, which is about the width of a persons foot, and a wider step down one side. The MX8 will not go past or along either step leaving my pool with leaves and debris on display. Because I run my cleaner late at night during the off peak electricity hours, unless I get out and brush all the debris off the step onto the bottom of the pool it doesn't get cleaned.3 comments
