Had it repaired under warranty once and second time round apparently it's the way I use it. It leaves black track marks on the transition crop wall to floor. I can't clean them off now the 2 years for warranty has passed last week and now it is my bad luck. Not happy.

Very disappointing for the price
I've had one of these pool cleaners for less than 2 years. It's had to be repaired twice under warranty and now the wheel track mount on one side has snapped off making it unrepairable. For the amount of money this cost it is a great disappointment and nobody seems to care. Feeling rather ripped off.

2nd one fails too
We bought this new MX8 being led to believe 'its the best' and was severely disappointed. Continuously getting stuck because of dirt, small leaves or corners in the pool - who knew there were corners in pools? This led to worn parts which led to replacement under warranty. A year later, being very careful to pick leaves out of the pool by hand - the second one is now useless except for where it circles in the one spot. Never again ZODIAC.

Pool cleaner that can't clean
This has to be the worst designed pool cleaner in history. A single gum tree leaf will get caught in the fins, the unit stops working and eventually your whole pool system stops working due to no water flow. This pool cleaner has ruined my pool pump causes it to dry run with no water flow and is costing me fortune to replace the pump. Do not buy this product. You will regret it.

Disgraceful Product
We have owned an MX8 for one year now and we have had it repaired monthly (minimum)! The pool cleaners tracks keep coming off (because the teeth on the tracks wear too fast) and the repairer comes out and puts new rubber tracks on it. However, everytime I call customer service they blame me for example too many leaves (which is untrue). I can't get a replacement as I received it in the package when my pool was built.
The product is faulty and I have reported them to the ACCC.

I use to clean the pool by hand now this MX8 is great.
I have the mx8 suction cleaner for about a year and a half and I am very happy with it so far.
It covers all areas of the pool including up the steps. The mx8 also goes up the sides of the pool and cleans them. It also easy to clean and maintain.

MX8 cannot handle leaves
I bought the MX8 in the summer and it was impressive the way it moved around the pool. But when the autumn leaves started falling into the pool I realized that I had bought the wrong cleaner. This cleaner is easily jammed by leaves and frequently stops. I constantly have to take it out of the pool, open it up, and remove a leaf stuck in the rotating fins. I had a Hayward Navigator that worked well for 12 years. I wish now that I had bought a new Navigator instead because it was able to pick up leaves much, much better than the MX8. This is not a barracuda - more like a clown fish.

brand new MX8 gets jammed straight out of the box
Looking at the design of this unit, no wonder it doesn't work.
I thought I'd spend the extra money as my 5 year old barracuda was on its last legs.
Pool shop shop won't return it and zodiac say to take it back to the pool shop.
Waste of money.

What a Horrible Unit And Sub Standard Service
Bought this Mx8 over a year ago. Would jam up with leaves on a daily basis. When the unit started to run in circles rather than back and front, called Zodic service for advice, the answer was: "Probably the gear on the right side, but we do not give advise how to replace the gear, take it to a local dealer" when I said that I'm a trades man and don't need a dealer to charge me for his time which will be half the unit cost, the final reply was sorry.
No wonder I buy everything from China, no future for people like that to survive in business.
Similar unit in China is $90- as against Zodiac at $590 - with no support, not even paid support.

Wear and tear spare parts rip-off
Hi All,
Just dropping you a note to let you know how disappointed we are with MX 8. Yes it does clean well when it is working but unfortunately it seems it has a lot of wear issue on the parts. Not that I do not understand that everything wears it just the frequency that the parts wear. Marginally less labour intensive than picking the leaves out with a tea strainer
The manual makes the utility of this cleaner clear, when it states that you should clean the pool before using it.
Even small amounts of debris in the pool will jam the moving parts of the MX8, which stops it from working. Unless the flow is regulated carefully it will climb the walls until it sucks in air.

Terrible twice over
The first Mx8 we had broke at the hub and the wheel came off. We tried to get it repaired but no one could fix it. This was a loan from a friend - thank goodness they no longer had a pool and didn't need it back. When we went to the pool shop of course they had NEVER heard of that happening ever...it was the top of the range! The second Mx8 had kept doing wheelies and losing its traction belts and we would find it just sitting on the side of the pool floor going nowhere. We kept putting the belts on but now the wheel has snapped off at the hub. This one was bought new in January 2015. I have seen on this site that these issues have happened to others. I wish I had been on this site before forking out the money!

Not Impressed
Bought this product for about $400 on May 30, 2014 and it quit working on June 7, 2015. Took it back to where I purchased it and was told it will cost about $100 to repair. This is ridiculous. Why spend that amount of money for a product which lasts one year and a week? Having read the other reviews, this seems to be normal. We have had pools for many years and different vacuums but I have never had one be so faulty at the one year mark. I do not recommend this shoddy Zodiac and will find a more dependable company and product.

Apparently the plastic parts of the motor were worn and replaced along with the rubber treads. Before these repairs, the unit would hardly move for hours.

Yes, now the other drive has gone. Had the cleaner for about 3 years. Only cost $61 for the new drive, fitted it myself. Now it works like a boss. Adjusted the flow also to get it to climb up the pool walls, it is a good cleaner, not too sure if I would get another.

f certain parts over the years. The tracks do a lot of work and therefore are commonly wear & tear parts. They can be purchased at your local pool shop in a lot of 2 in a carton. Alternatively, you can also purchase a value pack MX8 tune-up kit including both left and right drive assemblies, a new engine and a set of 2 tracks to refit your MX8 almost like a brand new one at an affordable price. To get the most longevity of your MX8 automatic pool cleaner, we recommend that you take the cleaner out of the pool after each clean and store it out of direct sunlight. This is the best cleaner we have had
We have only just purchased the mx8 suction cleaner but we are very happy with it so far. It covers areas of the pool that other cleaners haven't in the past like up the steps. The mx8 also goes up the sides of the pool and cleans them. Very happy so far

Stay away from this company
My MX8 lasted 11 weeks. It was in a pebble tec pool in the desert. We get some dirt in the pool during storms. This has never been an issue with other cleaners. We made the switch to this cleaner and now regret it. The worst part is that this company refused any warranty. They accused me of having "bad water chemistry" that prematurely wore out the unit. Like other reviews, the cleaner worked ok except it wouldn't go up steps which was not a gear issue as I could manually cleanse steps without much trouble. Problem is that the wheels on one side stopped turning so the cleaner simply went round in the same circle on the bottom of the pool. The first time Zodiac replaced it as it was in warranty. Now it is out of warranty but has the same problem but Zodiac not interested in fixing. There is obviously a latent defect in the product. Not good enough for the money I had to pay for it in the first place.

MX8 Worst cleaner ever
I have had the head replaced twice by Zodiac and the left gear replaced after constant issues with the tracks coming off the wheels, I have also had to replace the tracks myself twice. As the unit is now out of warranty Zodiac don't want to know about it, very disappointed in this unit, it has spent more time getting repaired than in my pool! Anyone thinking of buying one, don't you will be disappointed, on the hunt now for a cleaner that will last and also work! And Zodiac I have all my pressure set as advised by Zodiac every time it was repaired and the unit still broke over and over again.

Hi everyone, just an update for anyone interested. I purchased a Pentair Rebel Pool Cleaner and have had not one problem with it over the last year! It is a fantastic pool cleaner and I would recommend this over the MX8 any day of the week!

Good cleaner, but doesn't last!!!
We bought ours three years ago, within a year one side of wheels stopped working, they replaced the unit under warranty with a brand new one. The new one not having a full warranty on it, was based on original purchase. Within a year the same thing happened. At this point we paid about $100 to fix it, and each time this happened we checked set up and suction settings. It is now gone again. arden debris caught in it and need cleaning out but not excessively, and it is usually our neighbours bamboo causing issues. Now looking for a product that cleans well, but lasts longer than a year, or a warranty of more than a year.
