Anyone towing an Adria (mine is a 402PH Sport) with a BMW X3 ?

I am having all sorts of issues with my onboard computer which BMW can’t seem to solve. They have replaced the wiring loom but I still get error messages indicating all sorts of faults eg airbags failed, pedestrian safety failed, seat belts failed, cruise control stops working etc

Any help much appreciated.

Hi
Does this happen when towing- maybe you need to get your wiring check on the car plug or just get rid of the Bemmer and get a real car.

Easy, you're most likely don't have a caravan wiring plug MODULE fitted to your car, the module draws very little current through the car computer thus stopping errors appearing and causing havoc to the car
Inside a module box is basically approximately 4 miniature relays (brakes, lights, blinkers and reverse lights) the relays divert the power draw directly to the battery and not through your computer...a module is approximately 200 bucks

A member recently posted that they thought that it would be a good idea to fit an Anderson plug to run the fridge from the car when travelling. Is the 12 pin plug good for charging the battery but all so run the fridge, therefor eliminating the Anderson plug except for charging the battery from a solar panel.

Hi
I have had my van for about 10 months and the 12 pin plug works a treat in the older system 7 pin plug was used to just run the fridge and not the battery but the 12 pin has a thicker wire on the wire for the fridge so it does not overload the smaller wire and if wired correctly they should use an isolation solenoid so when you switch off your engine the van is isolated and does not drain your car battery. I hope this helps. I would use the 12 pin. I have.

Hi joe, I know it’s a while, but your comment seems the most relevant in all the comments. Just bought an Adria Altea and can’t get a plan for the 13 pins! Can you help? Than you!

Do owners run fridge 12v when on the move?

Joe

Hi
We always run on 12v when towing but you need to have your 12 pin plug wire to do this. You should have it so that when you plug the van in it will not start on 12 v until the engine is running so you don’t flatten the battery. Don’t ever run your fridge on gas whilst driving it against the law to do so. Just in case you have an accident so you don’t have an ignition source.

hello All. We are going to leave our 402 in Kalgoorlie (out doors) which sometimes has dust storms. Can anyone recommend : hatches open / closed etc? thank you Frank

I live in Qld so don’t have dust storms but I would definitely not store any van with roof vents or windows open.

If I don’t use my 402 for a period I also use a full caravan cover. I have one that zips open on the side so I can access the door, that way I can open it up every couple of weeks to air it and give it a bit of a dust and clean.

Thank you David, most helpful. Do you have insects sneaking in the floor vents ? I am considering stapling fly screen mesh loosely over the vents.

How do i close the windows?

Hi

You have to push them right out until they will not open any further. Then the locking clip releases and they will close. I find it easier to do from the outside especially the bed room ones.

Hi

I have an Adria 402 PH which I absolutely love. I want to fit a single bike rack to a frame but need to cut/adjust the cover to allow the folding rack to be secured. Has anyone done this or can you offer alternatives ? Don’t think I can attach a rack to the rear of the van but would be interested if someone has done this. Thanks.

Hi David,
I have 552PK which we also love. I'd asked Apollo when buying the van and also after and they had warned against it stating it would void warranty. Once the warranty was up I started asking around and a local company said they could attach a Fiamma Carry Pro Rack C. He inspected our van as well and said he was confident it would be ok. It would mount right through the back wall and he was going to brace it to the small cupboard we have on the back wall.
We've done a lot of research but only found horror stories about what happens with racks on the back so we are yet to do it.
I'd also love to hear if anyone has successfully done it.
I have seen others with them on the A-Frame, also Fiamma brand but we really wanted one on the back.

Hi David, To fit a bike rack on the back it needs to have plates fitted when manufactured I would not have anything bolted to the rear cupboard.
You can have one fitted to your tow pack on the rear of your car.

Hi Andy

Many thanks for your detailed reply. I like the sound of your solution as ai think it would suit my purpose as I only want to carry one bike so weight is not an issue.

Only thing I am concerned about is not being able to open the window - I assume you can open it a little but not fully to enable it to unclick and close.

I guess this could be overcome by replacing/removing the support struts so the window just swings out and in by the same amount ?

Thanks for changing your profile pic as I can see the rack but unfortunately can not enlarge it enough to get a really clear pic. I would much appreciate it if you could send me a few full size photos via email to Cole. [email protected] so I can have a good look.

When you secured the rack base you said you bolted through the floor. I assume these come up under the lower cupboard ? Did you put any reinforcement plates there and how many bolts on either side ? Sorry to pick your brains but they have already done the work so saves my old gray matter from repeating the exercise.

I am planning a trip West next year so maybe we can compare installations at some stage.

Again many thanks for the help and ideas for the rack, much appreciated.

Cheers
David

Hi Tina/Dave
I know each state have different regulations but if you check your paper work when purchased you will find a electrical and gas certificate signed of to australian standard.Check with your dealer because all appliances are supplied and fitted here after they arrive by Adria Australia.
I have owned 5 different caravans and none of them had air vents not even the one I own at present 2015 Australian built.
The only ventilation is a window or 12v range hood above the stove ducted external.
Hope this will help

Hi Rick. I purchased a Adria Alto 402 PH about 6 months ago. Absolutely love it. It is the 3rd caravan I have owned. Inportant for me was, not to big...both from a parking point of view and towing mass. I tow with a new 6 cylinder Captiva. Tows it well. For freedom camping I wanted a reasonable fresh water tank..volume...it has 130litres. I had fitted a 80 litre grey water tank.
i am not a small bloke....6ft 4" and 130kg. I have no trouble in useing the shower / toilet room. it is a good size. Fridge / freezer.....Excellent!..190 litres.
My wife and I are very happy with our decision to purchase this brand and model. We find it offers plenty of room for us and accommodates our grandsons too. Also the wold is just outside the door. Hope this helps..Paul.

Altea 402 PH Sport. any tips - trying to get gas hot plates to work and hot water to work. Gas bottle is on and full. Hot water run on electricity or gas? Hot water system is TrumanUltraRapid. Thanks. Any help would be appreciated.

When heating water does the pump have to be turned on when connected to mains water?

Yes hot water is gas and electric operation. For electric operation, ensure wall switch under bed is on. For gas operation black switch near floor level below dining seat, three way switch. Middle off, switch up 60 degrees, switch down 70 degrees.
Ensure your gas tank is switched to the full gas tank. Switch is in between the two gas tank set up.
Water pump does not need to be on when connected to mains pressure.
Hope this helps
