Caused permanent skin twitch

published

I used this product for several months on my tan and white beagle puppy. I did not make the connection, at first, that the Advantix was causing skin twitching on his back. By the third month, I could not pat him on the back without the twitch. When I described the problem to my vet, she confirmed that neurological issues were reported with Advantix, particularly in smaller, white dogs. My dog is now almost three years old. The skin twitch lessened immediately following cessation of Advantix, but continues to this day. Not recommended for smaller, white dogs.

works for 2 weeks, maybe

published

I tried this product 3 times X2 doses. Each dose, which is suppose to protect for 4 weeks, lasted less than 2 weeks. I am wholly unimpressed and will never buy a product from Bayer again.

Damaged my pups - huge red raw patch - fur gone

published

DON'T USE. my two French bulldogs had a very bad reaction on the place where I applied it - constantly scratching at the point of application, now their fur is coming out and there is a big red and inflamed sore. My vet is going to organise a full refund - Horrendous product - I think removing a tick is better than using this product.

Horrible & Dangerous

published

I have tried using this on my two dogs, the smaller miniature Maltese Chitzu has had sever reactions to this product the two times I have used it. Trembling, lethargic, scratching. The larger Kelpie cross has no reaction luckily. Both dogs are tick infested. The Kelpie we have been applying every two weeks and it still does not work. Have to apply weekly and he still has ticks. Will never use this product again. What a waste of money.

Doesn't repell ticks!

published

I last applied Advantix to my Dog just shy of 2 weeks ago and have found 2 brown ticks on her in as many days. Considering the price tag not worth it.
I'll be trying something new

skin irritation

published

I put this product on my Maltese Shih Tzu and within 15 minutes he was irritated and is still to this day. Thank heavens I only put it on him once and never again.
Don't use this product - it isn't any good and my dog now has a skin rash that I am having trouble getting rid of.
I will never buy this product again and I will warn anybody not to use it.
I wish I had read these reviews before buying it and I did get it from a vet.
Take your product of the shelves - it is dangerous.

Advantix Kills My Dog BoBo

published

My dog dies after using Advantix for 24 hours. One day before she dies, I used the Advantix on her body. I followed exactly the dosage and instruction. Today when I came back home around 5pm, she is drooling and tremor. Her abdominal muscle is contracted very strong. I am inexperience that she will get better after vomiting. However, I searched from the Web discovering that she may be poisoned. At 8pm, I alert that she may be in breathing difficulty. I searched for emergency vet and wanted to bring her to see the vet. She died around 9pm. I just wanted to post a warning for the dog owner not to buy on counter drugs. Most secured is from your vet's advise. The terrible component in Avdantix is Permethrin which is toxic to many dog.

Very adverse effect

published

AdvantixII caused serious neurological symptoms . Within 30 min. of application my dog began panting and restlessly running around. I immediately washed off product with Dawn dishwashing soap. She slowly improved over 36 hours. First application caused vomiting but thought it was a small price to pay for flea control. Will never use this dangerous product again. Thankful my dog had a mild reaction compared to other unfortunate pets.

Excessive Vomiting

published

Changed from Frontline Plus to this product. Every time Advantix was used, my dog would wake up and vomit in the middle of the night for a couple of days. Switched back to Frontline Plus and my dog stopped vomiting every time flea treatment is used.

Groodle

Reaction

published

Used Advantix Fleas & Ticks 5th time today on my 16month groodle, reacts every time the same. Reaction occurs almost immediately, panting, excessive salivating, runs in circles aimlessly, can only lay down for about 2 minutes maximum then gets up to run in circles, neurologically affected becomes paranoid, frightened of everyone, when we approach him he runs and hides, really weird behaviour. All these symptoms will last 14-18 hours. I have spoken to Bayer to report reaction, they have denied any other same complaints. I find it difficult to believe as on the internet so many consumers have written same reaction and reported to Bayer yet they still deny. Won't be buying this product again.

Terrible! Do No Waste Your Money

published

We put this monthly for our dog and yet he is flea infested, 1week into application. We re-apply on the 2nd week and it did not kill any fleas!!

Caused the left side of my dogs face to twitch

published

Applied Advantix on Friday and by Saturday the left side of my dogs face was twitching - his ears and the side of his mouth. We gave him a bath to try and wash it off but it didn't help. The Vet suggested an antihistamine and said not to use Advantix again, to use an oral tablet. Contacted Bayer and 'due to unforseen circumstances' there's no one to take my call.

Caused seizures in my kelpie

Unsatisfied

published

This is my 3rd month in on using this product..The first application immediately irritated my dog. He was constantly trying to get at his back by rolling and scratching. His head kept flinging backwards like there was flies on him. Gave him a bath to help relieve him a couple days later and mentioned it to my vet. They recommended that I still try again next month. I did and the same reaction happened. I debated about reapplying this month and decided I would just put a small amount on and sure enough it was the same results..just finished bathing him now. I not be using the rest of the product. What a waste of money.

Expensive and dog got tick and $5,000+ vet bill (nearly died)

published

The high price of products like these are not an indicator of effectiveness. We live in a an area with a very high incidence of paralysis ticks and our dog was always getting these monsters. After our second expensive trip to the vet hospital (dog's vet bills now of $5,000), we spoke to a farmer who recommended Preventic collars. These are cheaper than Advantix, reqiure less treatments and we have had no ticks since using these (started using these about a year ago).

Hopeless - fleas back within a few days

published

It says it will repel fleas for four weeks - think it must have meant four days because the fleas are back - expensive and does not do what it says it will do - cheap supermarket stuff was better. Very disappointed.

Terrible product

published

Applied product to toy poodle. He became very agitated, restless, panting, and vocalizing. Bathed the dog with dawn dish soap as recommended by Bayer. No improvement. Dosed the dog with Benadryl. He was miserable the entire night. Next day bathed him again. Continued Benadryl and took him to vet. They prescribed Valium to calm him and topical vitamin e. 48 hours later gradual improvement

Save your money!

published

We have had problems this year with fleas (due to the humid weather) and do a fair bit of camping in paralysis tick prone areas. We used Advantix on our 18 year old cross breed for the first time and within hours he was throwing up and very unsteady on his legs. We thought we may lose this dog "that will live forever". He did recover after 24 hours. We switched to Advantix after the same dog got a tick with Frontline Plus. The tick got into his mouth so the treatment was ineffective. Monty was 17 when this happened and was incredibly ill...but in true Monty form he came good and is still with us.

Still have fleas !

published

I have been using Advantix for 2 years on my dogs BUT for the past 2 months one of my dogs still has fleas even after using Advantix . Also I have decided to go with a healthier holistic option as my dogs always vomit a day or 2 after using Advantix so it must be the toxic chemicals in these types of products which poison our dogs !

Not working against fleas

published

I still have some fleas even after just applying. It's ok for about two weeks then dogs have lots and lots of fleas again. Biting flies are gone. Didn't have this problem last year. Very frustrating and disappointing. Will try something else.

Should be fine as long as its not too out of date (less than 12 mos out of date). The expiry usually has a bit of lee way

Sam F.
Sam F.

And it will be safe to use - the worry is wether it will still be effective. If the box was stored in a cool place thats even better but if in direct sunlight not as good and you may not want to push the expiry to much

Stephen This product isnt very safe to use while it is in date, I certainly would NOT use it out of date.
