Toxic Reaction
My Shitzu cross suffered a toxic reaction to his topical monthly treatment of advocate by Bayer.
He began panting excessively and had tremors all night long and listless during the day and staring at wall. Took him to vet who did all blood tests and all came out as perfect health put him on lovan 5mg which did nothing. Excessive panting and tremors still continued every night for another week until I was able to get him into a vet who uses natural treatment. This vet asked if any huge changes around house, food changes. None of these had occurr...Read more
ed. This only happened after his dose of advocate. The vet then put him on drops and mixed herb powders to detox him. Every day and night I gave him this medicine and every day I saw good things happening. After three weeks on medication the panting and tremors have ceased and my dog is brighter and happier than I have ever seen him. Had it not been for this vet I believe my dog would have died from advocate. Bayer should have warnings about this product that serious side effects can occur. I will never use again and plead with all dog lovers not to use. toxic reaction to advocate .

Made my dog very unhappy and strange
My dog immediately became very unsettled, starting panting, kept going outside, kept asking to go out to the front yard, couldn't get settled, tail was down and I've never seen him look so unhappy and he was also disorientated and seemed untrusting. I checked on him at 2.30am and he was hiding behind a cross trainer panting.do not recommend!!!

Bad news all around. This product sent my lab nutty for a day.
This product has led to extreme lethargy and avoidance of his pack (his human family) each time. We just made the connection. The dog was not himself for 24 hours. Won't be using it again. Not enamoured with Bayer to say the least.

Have fleas developed resistance to imidacloprid / moxidectin?
My 14 1/2-year-old Cavoodle has been treated with Advocate since before she could say mumma or dadda. It has always been effective... until now. Her past three treatments have been slightly before the month interval. But she appears to have a resident flea population. I keep the Advocate in the fridge so I know it isn't degrading. Unless the persistent hot and humid weather denatures the Advocate excipients before they have been absorbed or her aging body interferes with systemic distribution, I can't see any other reasonable explanation for active fleas.

Itchy skin infections
It gave my poor little dog skin infections. She was fine before use
and had not a flea on her and after use she was itching so bad I took her to the vet where they told me she has a skin infection. Now my poor dog is on really strong antibiotics and steroids to help. $200 later and she still isn't better. Lethargic and hasn't eaten for days, poor thing is in very bad shape.

Poison
Gave this to my 1,5yo frenchie for ear mites, 24h later she started having movement problems, could not walk properly, jump, was dizzy, letargic, sleepy, low appetite. Vomited once. Another 12h later I figured it was because of the Advocate and washed her with shampoo. Half an hour later she was much much better. Walking, jumping, happy, eating...

Easy Application
Have used Advocate on all my dogs. The Pet Circle website is very easy to order from. The goods are so much cheaper than Vets and Pet Stores. Will continue to use this site especially when items are on special. Prompt delivery.

people need to do more research!!!!
the one thing i am noticing from all of the reviews on all of the different brands is the lack Knowledge on the breed of animal its self! i have 2 cats and a dog and they don't use the same flea, tick & worming due to having different sink types people RESEARCH your breed before you take anyone's opinion into consideration even the vet at the end of the day they still get kick backs from the companies if the promote one brand over the over! with my dog he can only use Advocate as it doesn't give him pink Belly and the others are more likely to ...Read more
upon further investigation, one of my cats can use any thing however i choose to use revolution as that is what the animal shelter i got her from was using so why change something that is still working, lastly my 18 year old cat never had any issues when he was younger but as he has gotten older he has developed a skin irritation to fleas which then when ever i used a flea treatment would flair is skin up so i had to stop using it, i went on a researching mission and found that an alternative to pesticide treatments is Apple cider vinegar and coconut oil to help the flea and ticks. Do research before you buy don't just trust what everyone else says even the vet, you know your pet better than they do!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

So so
Gave my little dog a dose two days ago. He reacted badly with very red skin, as he is very sensitive. Two days later he is less sensitive but not perfect. Still scratching quite a lot. As to its efficacy, it killed all his fleas, or most of them, within 24 hours. The ones I saw were very unhealthy. Unfortunately after 48 hours he has quite a few healthy, active fleas. I have vacuumed but we have a bit of a flea problem at the moment. I knew fleas would get back on him, but I expected them to die when they did, just like the first lot. In the f...Read more
irst 24 hours most of the dying fleas hadn't bitten him. Now the fleas on him have evidently bitten him because they're plump and well-fed, and they're not dying. I agree, this product kills fleas. However, if it only works for 24 hours and then is worn out, it is very poor value. The jury is still out because I also powdered him with diatomaceous earth, which soaks up the oil from his coat and makes him lovely and white and clean. Unfortunately the Advocate spreads through the sebaceous glands and so in soaking up the oil I may have soaked up the active Advocate. I have 3 doses so I will wait a couple of weeks and do him again to see if it lasts longer this time.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Great for our dog
We have a 40 kg male german shepherd and have used this product since we rescued him 2.5 years ago. He had a few fleas when we got him from the rescue shelter, but after giving him advocate, hoovering the carpet twice a day for a week and flooding the garden to get rid of any potential flea-breeding sites - no fleas ever since! He is on a raw food diet, so I do not know if this helps with the treatments absorption and ability to work. I have never seen the red (large dog) advocate in our pet stores, but use the blue (medium dog) packet, one tube once a month after checking the dosage with the vet and our dog has not had any problems.

Didn't work
Found a flea on my Yorkie so used Advocate 4 to 10 kilos. She is six kilos. Followed instructions, but two weeks later she still has fleas and it biting and scratching continually. Cost nine pounds for one pipette. Useless.

One dog is fine other had a very bad reaction
Have 2 dogs both similar weight. One is happy to have this with no perceived side effects, but the other slinks away and was not his usual happy self the previous month. This time around severe reaction, vomiting, restless, very unhappy. Wiped as much as I could off after about 4 hours of vomiting, etc and after a couple of more heaves, gave him some food and he seemed to finally settle down. Took about 12 hours for him to be happy again. No lasting side effects but will not be using it on him again. Will be changing for both dogs to another product - sorry Advocate, but have not seen this type of reaction with any other product over the 30 years I have had dogs. Product works, just don't want to risk it.

Scary reaction
I gave my poodle X Tibetan Spaniel advocate and within half an hour he was so irritable, shaking and legs were giving way. I washed the area where I put the advocate and it took him around 8 hours to settle down and get back to his normal self.
Looking back 6 months ago... We had a midnight trip to the vet when he started convulsing and shaking, he stayed in the vet overnight on the drip but they couldn't figure out what was wrong. It's only now I realise I gave him advocate that morning but didn't even think that it could have been the issue. Will never put this on any pet ever again, just looking at some of the reviews this is not a one off and I don't know how they can continue to see this poison.

Works well
Had been worried after reading the reviews but the fleas caused problems too. The product works well the dogs had no problem and I intend to keep using. Didn't give 5 stars as I think it is too expensive.

This product is very harmful for your pets,
I brought your product and used it on my staffy, I know my dog and his never had a reaction to anything, but your advocate not only doesn't work it's made my dog sick with a skin reaction all over his body with scabs every where and immediately he was subjected to torture symptoms including high temp, scabs low blood pressure rehydrated and the scabs are bleeding, Bayer have all ready officially offered me a refund, and told me to pick my refund up from place of purchase and I took the dog and the video of what had happened. Now I'm not rich.. A...Read more
nd I guarantee there would of been something my self and my family would of gone without because I had to spend the money on fixing my dog up. So there are 2 bills that need to be payed by Bayer $455.05 you people guarantee that this will work and there's no mention of the side effects to the animal. I know you [name removed] from Bayer have said that you won't pay my vet bills. I will start a pension and I will facebook it and ask to like and share. Don't worry I will get the word out there trust me this is so un-Australian and not a good way to run your business.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Dog's Reaction To Advocate Flea Treatment
My 1 star rating is based on the reactions my 3 dogs have to Advocate, not the efficiency of the product.
All 3 dogs dislike the application of Advocate, they are healthy with no skin lesions where the product could cause pain. The Advocate makes the Springers agitated and anxious which passes in about 30 minutes. The Bulldog has an entirely different reaction, he rolls around yelping and then runs frantically bumping into things, becomes completely disorientated and then after a couple of hours finally sleeps, no doubt due to exhaustion. ...Read more
This is the second application for the Bulldog and after the first the vet said it was not related to the product, but with a replication of behaviour after the second application, it clearly is. The product does work but it is not worth the distress it causes, I will need to find an alternative. I know many people who use it on their animals with no adverse reactions so I would recommend a try and see approach because it does keep fleas and ticks at bay which is essential for the overall health of our animals.Similar opinion? Questions & Answers
Helen J.asked
I gave my dog her treatment and three hours later she jumped in a river. She was not fully submerged and only felt slightly damp on her back. Will the advocate have worked. We are also now in Devon where ticks are rife should I give her another treatment. Thanks Helen

Jennie K.asked
My daughter has accidentally put medium dog advocate on our large dog ( luckily not the other way around). Does this mean she won’t be protected this month as obviously if I put the large dose on now she will be overdosed. Would we be able to put another medium dog on her or is it just not worth the risk?
