Works well
I was very wary of using this on my cat because of the negative reviews and illness/death associated with this product. We have used this on our 2.5 year old cat twice now and it is the only treatment that has been effective- no other flea powders/tablets could treat her bad case of fleas. No adverse reaction after first use. This time she seems a bit quieter but still eating and drinking as usual. We were very careful with the placement on the back of her neck to make sure she couldn’t reach and lick the area and kept her inside for a few hours after use to monitor her. Would definitely recommend this product but we will only do the treatment on a day that we can stay at home and watch her.

Protection for fleas, ticks and some worms - but the cat hates it!
I've tried different products over the years for my cat but my main concerns are protection from fleas and ticks, as ticks in particular are a huge problem in my area according to my vet. I talked to my vet and changed to Advocate (purple for large cats over 4kg) and use it monthly, and then get any extra required protection from worms not covered by Advocate when we visit the vet. My cat hates it - If he smells me opening the pipette he hides. So, I have to open the pipette in another room, put my finger over the opening so he can't smell i...Read more
t, then sneak up on him, grab him and squeeze it onto the back of his neck before letting him go. He reacts like I've just poured boiling water over him, squirming, yowling and then running away with his ears back, then gives me the silent treatment for half a day, so I feel like I'm hurting him. I've noticed he gets a small scab on his skin where I've used it, and this has happened every month. He now has a few tiny bald patches on the back of his neck but as he has very long fur so they aren't noticeable until I brush him or pet him. It is effective as he's never had fleas, ticks or worms. When we moved house and he became a full time indoor cat I asked the vet if he still needed this treatment and he recommended I continue using it. I buy this online and on special every three months as it is too expensive at the vets or the local pet supply places.Purchased in March 2021 at Budget Pet Products Online store for A$36.84.

Thought great prescription diet is working... well Summer began i treated him & vomitting was back & i mean violently vommiting EVERYWHERE ... so I believ...Read more

Poison killed my beloved cat
I gave my beloved ragdoll cat Mussy advocate worm treatment the one for larger cats, I should have given dose for medium cats - he had already had bad episodes with Bayer products.
A flea collar $80 dollars made him really sick. Bayer gave me a refund. Then stupidly I gave him a large dose of worm spot on Advocate. He became ill from being very well cat. lethargy, dehydration, blood in his poo followed by mucus blood diarrhea which they could not stop. The vet put him on a drip with antibiotics/hydration that did not work. They did not k...Read more

Great for ear mite
My cat had ear mite big time. He was scratching, twitching his ears and sneezing. I have him a dose of advocate before taking him to the vet just to give it a try. Lo and behold, within minutes the symptoms began to desist and an hour later he was back to normal.
He showed no signs of nausea as some others have reported.

Worked straight away
We had no luck with other products, so we tried Advocate after hearing good reviews. Our cats stopped scratching within 20 minutes, I'd definitely recommend this. Look after your pets well!

Take this product down from the market
After applying to my cat, she has become very lethargic, whatever she eats she vomits, she seems unsettled... If I know I would never, ever put it near my cat. I cannot see how anyone can consider it something safe to put on cats. I am so angry I did not check the reviews before as I probably would not agree for it.

Vomiting and clearly the smell is overpowering
Observe your animals CAREFULLY when using this product. Both our cats start squinting and blinking their eyes the second it is opened. This was even on the first time we tried it. We have used it for several months as we thought it would be great as it was both for fleas and worms so the boys[ cats] didn't have to be treated with multiple things. But no more. I can smell it as well and it is horrid and almost burns your eyes so they water [yes, I am very sensitive to things as is our 12yr old son...if WE can then it's worse for the animals!]. One cat we have realised vomits in the first 24hrs it is administered. The other has diarrhea for a week every time. Never had any of this with other products.

Bad reaction
I have treated both of my adult cats today with advocate and they have both had a bad reaction to it. They appear scared and jumpy, if I go near them they cower as if I’m going to hurt them and are behaving weirdly in general. I do hope this reaction wears off soon, it’s been quite scary to watch them . I certainly won’t use this again !!

Made my older cat sick
I have used this for many years and have been happy with it. I recently used it again on my 16 year old cat and within 24 hours she stopped eating, retreated from contact with us and was generally unwell for about 10 days. Unfortunately I can't use this again.

Not happy
I’ve used this on my cat twice now. The first time she started acting out of character. Usually very friendly and loving affectionate cat she became distant and wasn’t eating her food. Only lasted a few days didn’t think too much of it. Gave her another dose yesterday and she’s been so distant all day, getting very angry, not coming inside like she usually does at night and angry everytime I approach her. I’m convinced it’s because of advocate. Won’t be giving it to her again.

Cat nearly died
Vet administered in the surgery, but put on too low below shoulder blades. Cat was able to lick. Within 24 hours, cat was wobbly, nearly falling over, twitching and trembling, distressed, dilated pupils. He survived thank goodness but this product is lethal and there is no antidote. SHOULD BE BANNED

Don’t do this to your cat
Bought Advocate as it was recommended by the sales person in Petbarn. We asked for the flea collar, as nothing else to worked (drops, tablets, flea bombs, combing), and she swore that there is nothing better on the market than Advocate. First time we applied it, it didn’t work, the cat probably licked or rubbed it off. Then we got the collar and thank god it worked. No more fleas! Couple months later we decided to give her a worm treatment and we still had Advocate. So I applied it near the collar and the cat seemed fine at first. Then 8 hours ...Read more
later I woke up from my cat running around like crazy. She was hissing, shaking, jumping, attacking and scratching me, not letting anyone touch her. She also had diarrhea. Somehow I managed to take the collar off and wash her neck and 3 hours later she started to calm down. It was in the middle of the night so vet was out of the question, so I started reading reviews and found that many pets go bonkers after this treatment. someone suggested to give a bath to the pet. I am not against the manufacturer, because Bayer collar did work and we were pretty happy with it. I’m just saying that those drops that all sales people are promoting - they are either useless (Advantage) or harmful (Advocate) for your pet. Not to mention it would cost much more to apply those drops monthly than a collar that lasts 8 month. I wonder how they sleep at night. Promoting harmful medicine for the sake of getting a commission on sales...Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Horrible side effects
After applying this product on our beloved cat, she has not been able to eat or drink for 2 days, getting excited at the thought of eating and yet unable to eat, horrible!
Bayer should reconsider selling this product as it is! It has definitely more bad side effects than good ones!!!

My cat nearly died after this was applied to him, vomiting, constipated, cramping. Very unwell. These companies have a lot to answer too.

Second Time Lucky
The following is a review that was supposed to be written for Advocate, but I mistakenly submitted for Advantage. Similar names and pack colours confused me. This is where it's supposed to be.
After Frontline stopped working on my allergic to flea bites cat, I tried a couple of the other spot-ons before Advocate (Including Advantage). Unlike the others, this one worked a treat. Within a day he'd stopped trying to scratch and lick his skin off, and in a week or so I noticed the areas of skin he'd chewed raw had healed and the fur start to gro...Read more
w back. I've kept him on Advocate purple for 4 or 5 years now. It still works fine and I'm happy to pay a bit more for the peace of mind that the fleas are kept off him and he no longer suffers with irritation. I put the stuff on the back of his head, just above where it meets the neck, as I found he managed to lick too much off if I put it between the shoulder blades. That ensures the maximum benefits. I'm very happy that not only does this stuff work, but it works very well. My boy is 16 now and the last thing he needs to deal with is fleas.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Questions & Answers
Rachel M.asked
I used this on my cat about 2 weeks ago and while the fleas left, the poor little think was so irritated yesterday and I realised she has a complete bald patch about 2cm wide and about 3cm long (her hair is quite thick to the point you can barely see skin when you part the fur, usually) and greasy skin with red bumps on the exact place I put the treatment... This was the first time we used this product, other products have been fine. Has anyone else had this happen?

I’ve had the exact same problem happen this month with my cat. I’ve been using advocate for years though and this is the first time he has got a bald spot after it’s application. The only thing I did differently was put it abit further down than usual on his neck/back. I’ve put some betadine on his skin so hopefully that helps .. Did your cats bald spot recover?
It took months for my cat to recover it actually kept getting worse, more hair fell out over that week and the irritation spread & it turned out to be a chemical burn that was literally eating away at her skin :( it had to be treated with a steroid cream & antibiotic I’ll never use a spot treatment again! I researched chemical burn from flee treatment and while it doesn’t happen all the time when it does it’s quite bad.. Her hair has all grown back now and no irritation on her! I’m not sure if the placement had anything to do with it as her hair is so thick it was placed on lower neck but either way it really shouldn’t cause such reactions.. Is your cat ok did the betadine work?
