Smart design, great quality, certainly worth a look.
We purchased this tent for an overland touring trip so it had to be relatively lightweight, compact and easy to erect and dismantle as we would only be over-nighting in most places. We originally looked at the quick erect spring loaded metal frame designs including the Black Wolf Turbo range. After researching the specs and seeing both styles and examples in the flesh we went for the far less expensive, more compact and lighter Tanami 6. It arguably also has more useable space than the other styles as well with a large enough vestibule for chan...Read more
ging, bathing etc. The ventilation features are well designed with a vertical flow through arrangement but the tent will get hot in full sun with all the zips and flaps closed. Especially if the privacy screen on the large front 'door' is not open. The side vents and side door access is brilliant allowing extra airflow and alternate access points reducing the claustrophobic feeling one can experience in a tent. When fully pegged the tent does not flap and is quite windproof. We watched a small willy willy hit the tent side on and the frame flexed amazingly and reverted to shape when it had passed with no dramas. The quality of all materials, zips etc are excellent but I would suggest purchasing stronger after market pegs; especially if visiting areas like the Flinders Ranges! The tension in the segmented fibreglass poles is set so they will self lock when aligned which makes erection a pretty simple process. Attaching the top velcro strap on the top cross of the diagonal frame and the top clips onto the frame requires a bit of height and strong fingers with this model. The small velcro strap which aligns and secures the fly to the ends of the top cross member at each side are fiddly and require concentration to secure blind. While this model can be erected by 1 (taller) person, getting the fly over the frame can be tricky in windy conditions and is easier with 2 people. We got very good at removing and folding the fly without it touching the ground. While there would be room for stretcher beds in this model we found two king single 4wd self inflatables worked fine with plenty of room for clothes luggage bags etc and you can walk on the bed if need be. While we did endure a couple of rainy nights we never had a deluge to give the tent a real test. However, at no time did the fly look like leaking and is set far enough away from the living compartment to avoid contact. The fly did take a long time to shed water and become dry enough to pack. In the end we used a combination of beating and wiping with a bath towel to get the water drops to shed off the fly. The lightweight woven black poly floor is prone to punctures from sharp sticks and stones, and tends to attract both dust and heat. An extra groundsheet underneath and some door mats could be a good investment.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
