The kettle turns on press the temperature then press the start button nothing happens

Lift the kettle out of the base with power on. Set temp then the start button. Your kettle should automatically boil on the same temp setting everytime. You don't have to touch temp setting unless you are changing temperature.

Has anyone figured out how to disable the beeping short of finding the buzzer and snipping it?

I’ve got this same issue but it’s out of warranty. It’s a pity because it was an expensive kettle

I just got my kettle today, I switched it on and have run it a couple of times then I moved it to another spot and now when I switch it on the keep warm button and the start/cancel button flash then turn straight off, I don’t know what I can try? Or is it a fault? Thank you.

STAINLESS STEEL (bke825A). My kettle keeps turning itself off been playing up about a month, now occasionally wont turn off when boiling. Purchased from Harvey Norman June 2016 so now just out of warranty, thought the Smart Kettle at $120.00 would have lasted longer, somewhat disappointed. Can you please advise what to do. Thank you, Fate Miller

Sorry no, I am not a merchant, I buy products just like everyone else. A consumer, I only did these reviews so people can see that they are a good item which despite people having issues with them I still think are

I think you'll find that the warranty period is 2 years, or at least it was when I got mine in 2013 and also when I got a replacement in 2015, which then did the same thing before the two year warranty, but as I hadn't bought it I couldn't claim another replacement. Nice kettle, but I wouldn't pay that much again!

I turned the jug on, there was a loud bang which popped the breaker in the fuse box and a smell of electrical burning at the base of the kettle. The jug is 29 days out of the twelve months warranty purchased on 16/10/2014 at The Good Guys. The model is BKE830. Can I get a replacement?

Hi Garry, its a faulty computer chip. I would still go into Harvey Norman and let them know as it is definitely a fault. I know how infuriating the switching off is!

i have a breville BKE825 smart kettle which is still in warranty and it has an intermittent fault in that it stops the boil process and then after about a minute it will start again or if you press the start button again it will click off - it can do this several times before you can start the boil again. also, it keeps boiling for way too long after it has boiled on the black tea setting.

Breville
Breville ·

Hi Hevans,
I am happy to tell you that this is not a fault of the kettle. The software for this kettle is quite complicated, but the lag allows the kettle to be more accurate by assessing the water temperature during the heating process. Also, any prolonged boiling at the end of a boiling cycle will again be the sensors waiting to reach a target temperature. This ensures accuracy when you serve the heated water with your preferred tea or beverage. The best indicator is the heating lights. When the kettle is in operation, the start button will be illuminated by a red light surrounding the button. When the heating cycle is completed, the red light will switch off.
Thanks, The Breville Team

I experienced this fault with my kettle. It would work intermittently but would work continuously if the kettle was rotated around the base by 90-180 degrees. Clearly the fault was in the central contacts. After turning off and disconnecting the base I was able to pry up the three small metal contacts in the circular rings in the base with the point of a sharp knife. It works perfectly now.

I have experienced the intermittent on-off-on-off so frequently described in reviews on this site. We bought our 'smart' kettle from Harvey Norman and when it became virtually unusable because of the premature switch-offs while still under warranty we returned it to Harvey Norman and were begrudgingly given a replacement with it being implied that the failure was due to misuse by us. This replacement has failed in a similar way, only worse, and we declined to return it while under warranty because of the attitude referred to earlier. I had wondered about contacts on the base being to blame before reading GarryH's suggestions, and have since tried his recommendation, which has resulted in slight improvement. I think the connection protruding from the side of the base may be to blame rather than the contacts within the circular rings, but its design makes it impossible to 'tweak' in a similar way. Anyway, we shouldn't need to have to return these kettles nor to fiddle around with contacts. The design is to blame and it looks as though I am one of a significant number of disappointed people who will think twice before buying another Breville product.

Further to my earlier response, I'm now experiencing something for which I can think of no logical explanation. For the last few daysI have been finding that when 'turning the kettle on' by pressing the Start/Cancel button, if I continue to hold that button down by pressing it for several seconds the kettle sometimes (not always) remains on rather than switching off then having to be turned on again over and over as has been complained about by many purchasers. It's worth trying. But talking about explanations, The Breville Team's explanation above avoids answering Hevans' question as to why the kettle keeps switching off and needing to be switched back on again over and over, which so many of us have experienced. it's back to the good old Russell Hobbs with a solitary thermostatically controlled on/off switch for our next kettle.
