When I made oxtail soup, the liquid was spewing out of the machine as it was releasing the pressure at the end. How do you prevent this? The liquid was below the max line when I put the ingredients in initially.

Some recipes such as stews will expand in volume. Avoid using the Quick Steam release for these, try Auto Pulse. I often do a Lamb Shank stew slightly overfilled. Have to then manually release pressure by cycling the button to get pressure down to level for faster release.

Hi there, Purchased at the end of 2018 and I have an ongoing issue when I use the Breville as a pressure cooker, starts off ok then I get a signal beep and flashing on the screen that says "lid not sealed" I have tried everything, googled troubleshooting and I can't fix it, can someone please help me with this problem.

Check under side of top lid and make sure the knob is tight.

Jimbo Jones

It means there is a compromised seal. Its either the Nut Seal Lid, Gasket Seal or possibly some gunk has got into the Safety Valve or Locking Pin. Give the lid a clean paying attention to valve and pin areas. Check o-ring on Lid Locking Nut for damage, make sure its correctly tightened when used. With the Lid Gasket care must be taken not to stretch when removing or cleaning. If stretched it becomes loose in lid and wont give a consistent seal. If that's the prob get a replacement.

I get this issue sometimes as well. Somebody suggested I lift the lid a little when you put it on to help the seal. This seems to have helped me since I started doing it.

Could I steam food using the pressure cook function instead of the steam function?
I have found the steam function didn't steam soy beans soft enough despite soaking beans for a day and steam for an hour in the fast stow pro cooker.
If yes, what pressure and time soy beans need to turn soft enough to be smashed by two fingers?

I used to steam soybeans for 30min on 80kpa natural release for natto successfully.

Maddie
Maddie

Thank you, Kris. Making natto is exactly what I am doing to need steamed soy beans.
May I also ask you what natto bacillus you were using, and where you got it from? I use bacteria from frozen natto from the shop, and find the threads from my home-made natto not as many and thick as that from the shop.

kris

Sorry Maddie just realised u asked me a question. So I used 1/2 portion of the frozen packs per rectangular pie dish to make mine and it was very stringy and successful.

Hi Gurusev,
I assume you mean the knobs for temperature, time and steam release? Mine wobble slightly too, but the cooker works fine. The knobs are not like a normal dial that is completely fixed in position.

Yes the roasts are wonderful just follow the instructions and well worth the extra cost.

NOt sure, I have an Akorn Kamado that runs on lumpwood charcoal, and for roasting and/or BBQ I will not change for nothing. When it comes to that I do not compromise.

Hi there, congrats on your purchase! You will love the Breville. KpA is all about pressure levels (kilopascals) (pounds per square inch).

Delwyn

found on Google...The pascal (Pa) or kilopascal (kPa) as a unit of pressure measurement is widely used throughout the world and has largely replaced the pounds per square inch (psi) unit,

No I don't think so but please check this with Breville. I read the delayed start feature is not reliable and that's why they do not install it. I'm not an expert in this area, I just use mine as per the instructions.

Hi there, No there is not a delayed start time.

How often do you have to change seals and will they be available for years to come.
Also why only a year warranty, does it imply that they are not that reliable?

1 answer

I really do not know this. Hopefully Breville who is the designer (I would like to believe) and manufacturer can answer this.
I would especulate that being a silicone based seal and not rubber, it should last. How long, that is the 1 million dollar question. Rubber would brake down and would not last longer than silicone, but how long is long, without knowing the compounds used and the rest...I would be guessing in a terrain I have no expertise.

Does pressure cooking rice still require the 1L minimum food/liquid rule?
The manual is confusing as it says multiple times never cook with less than 1L in the bowl however goes on to give recommended rice:water combinations that are way lower than 1L worth (eg: 200gm rice to 300ml water)

Wabbit

Hi Adam, rice is no problem in the Breville at all, (at the less than a litre rule) though I find I prefer to double the rice amount saving the leftovers in the fridge for fried rice later in the week. I also prefer to lower the cooking time by a minute or two so that the rice is firmer. As soon as the rice is finished be sure to stir/fluff it up right away or it keeps on cooking. Hope that answers your question!

Another question if I may. Do you guys reheat food in the cooker? If so what is your favourite way to do that?

Hi there, the Breville FAST SLOW Pro does not have a yogurt setting but pressure cookers can do yogurt, thus it is only a matter of finding a pressure cooker recipe for yogurt and adapting to your unit. What Inlove about this model is the custom setting option, which allows you to fine-tune your recipes. Hope this helps!

Yes it does. I didn't buy the Philips because it has a teflon bowl but you can buy a stainless steel bowl direct from Philips. Not in store

I can't get the lid closed at all! No, not "make a proper seal" but twist the blasted thing so it actually closes in the first place! I have tried for over an hour with no luck and it has worked previously no problems...what the is the go? About to throw this hunk of junk out...

Hi there, I am sure you have tried every possible angle to solve this, thus probably best to call Breville. I have experienced this from time to time, and I found that by removing the lid (in the instructions) and giving a good clean, as well in the base edge where liquid sometimes gathers to run into the catch receptacle, helps and usually solves my problem, as things can get quite built up and sticky. Also make sure the vent is on open when trying to close. Hope you find the answers!

What happens when you accidentally pour chicken broth in your pot without the insert?

Wabbit

I did the same thing Betty, and thought I’d ruined one of my two beloved Brevilles. I immediately held it upside down over the sink until most of it drained. Then using a damp sponge with a little diluted liquid dish detergent to cut the grease, wiped out as much as I could. Then, using paper towels I wiped it up again. Next I put it upside down over a tea towel on the counter for two days, lifting it and giving it a good shake once in a while. Wiped it out each time. And it was good to go! Make sure however the first time you use your Breville again that you observe closely and do not leave it unattended. If you experience any problems, I.e. see it shorting or hear zapping, see smoke, etc., unplug at wall take it in for service.

Have had this since Boxing Day sales 2015. Took me 6 months to get it out of the box.
The most annoying thing with this cooker is it takes 20 minutes to start to build pressure. Then 9/10 times it will stop after 20 minutes and complain lid is not sealed.
5 mins release steam. Then open lid, take out rubber seal and put back.
Start again.
Tonight I’ve done this 3 times already.
The rubber seal seems to half slip out from the top. Extremely frustrating when you see the “bolognese” 20 min pressure cook. Ends up taking min. 20 mins to build pressure (and if you’re unlucky like me do this 3 times over....)

I keep persisting to try use it every couple months and once a while it works first time. The results that it makes is great and the feature to ‘reduce’ is very helpful.

Maybe I got a dud rubber ring? Any suggestions???

Other than the sealing function it’s a good machine. Just always add 30-40 mins to cooking times to allow for pressure and releases

I know exactly your situation,
Breville Support has parts at a very good price. I would replace the seal ( I have a backup spare also) P# SP 0008961 About $6 I think but not sure.
I have 4 Pressure cookers & the seals do need to be replaced from time to time, even the good silicone ones.
I think it's important not to stretch them when cleaning. I also give them a light cooking spray
My big Tefal stove top one is the worst Drove me crazy in Thailand trying to get new seals, so bought another cooker & same again after 2 years

For the Bolognese, I usually heat my stock & wine (liquids) in a pot on induction & then add to the Breville for final pressure cook. I also saute the onions & grated carrot & chopped celery first then add garlic, remove then brown the meat, return the saute & add fresh herbs, & add hot liquids then pressure cook.
Hope this helps
PS my wife threw the round nut that holds the lid on in the rubbish one day when had it in pieces to check everything was clean,,,,, the reason I called Breville parts......

Wabbit

Hello Mikool, I have had the same problem with one of my two identical Brevilles. Before I close the lid, I ensure the ring seal is inserted and tucked properly in, and hold it in as I shut the lid. This seems to solve the problem. In the meantime I do plan to purchase additional rings and also make a quick call to Breville to see what they can do to make it right. Other than the ring seal problem, my Brevilles work perfectly. You might find that by adding your liquids hot, (or first heating your liquid on the reduce function), that food comes up to pressure quicker. All pressure cookers take such time to pressurise. Also, if you prefer a quicker release, you can instead use the custom function to cook your meal, or if using one of the standard functions, at end of cooking time, press and hold down several times or as needed on the quick release button to quicken up the release process.

how long does it take for the saute/sear heat to warm up enough to start cooking?

The unit is very quick. I guess that its a question of how cold is the product that you are wanting to sear?

akc81
akc81

thanks. and how about the amount of time for the pressure to build up for the pressure cooker to start?

Wabbit
Wabbit

The sear and sauté functions heat up very quickly, so be sure to put your oil or butter in right away.
Coming up to pressure can take an additional ten minutes or so, depending on the amount of food and liquid in the pot. To speed things up, you can first heat up the liquid in the pot quickly using the “reduce” feature with lid or pressure release valve open; then reset to your desired pressure cook program. Don’t forget to close the pressure release valve prior. Hope this answers your questions!

Hello BD! Definitely, forgo the microwave and reheat your leftovers in your Breville for juicy, well heated food! I wouldn’t do it any other way now. The other day, as an example, I reheated sliced medium rare roast beef from a roast the night before by simply placing a little bit of water in the bottom of the bowl, and selecting LO slow cook for just a few minutes! Had I done these in the microwave or oven, the beef would have cooked more and dried out.
I also have a small stainless steel mixing bowl that I place atop the trivet, (add about a cup of water into the Breville) to reheat small amounts of leftovers using either the steam method or by simply selecting slow cook, close the lid, open release valve and set for a few minutes checking until heated through.

Before buying I just wanted know if this prduct has a manual setting mode? I want to make bone broth and I prefer leaving it on for a lot longer than what the manual suggested (I looked it up). I wanted to pressure cook my broth for atleast 3-4 hours instead of the two the preset suggested.

1 answer

I make lots of Bone Broth and there is no easy answer here. Most equipment has a Duty cycle, x amount of time on & y amount of time off including my induction cooker.
For bone broth, I leave my slow cooker on high overnight, topping it up before bed with water. A slow cooker with ceramic insert works best & the biggest Non-Digital ones are very cheap. Having Killed one BPR700 by running it On too many times at once without a break, I now respect the off time for all my equipment except the Slow Cooker & SousVide water heater. Ed
