When I put my Breville fast slow pro on pressure, it built up the pressure then stopped, the screen said the lid was not sealed. I know the lid was on properly so what should I do please? Thank you.

When ever that has happened to me I just open the lid and shut it a bit harder until it clicks/the screen changes colour then it seems to work fine. You need to make sure the little pin hole is positioned properly otherwise it wont let the unit build pressure. If you have any other issues I'd recommend you contact Breville directly as their customer service is fantastic.

Happens to me all time. Even with pin aligned. Once it alarms out with no seal error, press stop and start again. Works everytime. Just means you can't set and forget!

when you lift the lid of the pressure cooker and it hinges up does liquid drip back into the bowl? For example if I was making a cake in there I wouldn't want any liquid dripping back onto it. Thanks.

Have a look at this youtube video https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RqkFGezv9VQ and decide for yourself. Yes, this model has a tricky lid. However, I would assume that if baking a cake there would not be a huge amount of steam generated (I haven't done cakes in mine yet) compared to a roast or stew. I actually didn't like the way the water runs off the lid in this video (marketed as the Fast Slo Pro by Sage, but it is the same machine), however the other features of the BPR700BSS were an upgrade to my Breville BPR200 (all except the lid). So, win some, lose some.

As for avoiding the liquid on the cake, I imagine the faster you open the lid, the less chance of condensation dripping inside. However, you might want to have paper towel at the ready to catch the run-off, if any. :) Good Luck

I am trying to decide between the 650 and 700 models. Are there any real differences?

1 answer

Huge difference! The 650 is a basic model. The 700 has more refinements possible. If you're new to pressure cooking, you probably won't notice much other than there are lots more details on the screen of the 700. However, after pressure cooking for a couple of years, I wished my old BPR200 had more refinements to it so I could adapt other pressure cooker recipes (especially stovetop PC recipes that rely on reaching a numeric pressure vs high/low). My BPR200 (which is the same functions as the BPR650) has just started with some issues, so I'm upgrading. The Tefal Cook4Me was very tempting, especially as my children could easily cook with it, but as it doesn't have the slow cooker function (and looks like an alien), I decided to stick with Breville.

This product is listed under California's Proposition 65. Can Breville answer why? I really like this units features but want to avoid Toxins in my food. Is there a Stainless Steel Inner available for this pot?

1 answer

It has a non-stick inner pot. I'm assuming that the Teflon? coating is on the CalifProp85 no go list? I would buy a Stainless Inner for the pot if it was available, as the rest of the unit is steel.

I have just purchased the breville fast slow pro but haven't used it yet. I am concerned about the cooking time for things like curries and casseroles. It says it takes an hour? Is this the case? Other pressure cookers take 24 minutes.

I think that will depend on what pressure, high, low, PSI the cookers are cooking at. You can always do a bit less then add more if it's not cooked to you liking.

Hi there,
I've just bought mine, used it 3 times but I'm struggling to get my pot clean - no food residue but smell wise. I've washed it so many times, even put it through the diswasher but it stinks! The food doesn't have an after taste but once I've washed it, its like the smell still sticks. Does anyone else have the same problem or know how to get rid of the smell?

After food is cleaned off, rinse with vinegar, then wash as usual.

Yes, mine reeks as well and vinegar, carb soda and lemon juice don't help. The smell has gotten so bad that its been relegated to the garage and back in its box. To all prospective buyers, avoid if you don't want it stinking out your kitchen cupboard.

Hi, I've only used mine 3x and from the first go the pot has retained the smell of whatever I make in it! It's terrible! I'm going to return it today and wait for a pressure cooker with a stainless steel pot!

I just purchased this and tried the BBQ beans recipe in the book. After 15 mins to preheat, 25 mins cooking and fast release steam the beans were nowhere near cooked????? Recipe book said 25 mins cooking time.

Also the valve is ever so slightly releasing steam throughput the whole process. But the machine says it's still at high pressure. Is this normal? My tefal doesn't do this. It every so often spurts steam out in one fast spurt to maintain its pressure.

Does anyone know if the valve should be noisy and releasing all the way through???

Thanks

This experience is not normal and actually, based on your detail provided, quite easily resolved. It would appear that either the steam release valve / cover is misaligned or another relatively simple assembly issue must first be addressed to allow the product to properly pressurize, and therefore cook. Intermittently steam may release in small amounts throughout the cooking process; however, if that occurs it is a sign that a simple fix is possible, relating to stream release valve outlined with arrows on the lid. Please reference your instruction manual or further reach out to Breville Support directly at 1300 139 798 so we may assist in determining a rapid resolution which likely will require nothing more than a simple adjustment after a brief conversation.

hi, i saute spices and vegies with the lid open all the time, are you putting the saute on medium or high? i usually use the high setting for saute and start whilst it is pre=heating max time i think once reached temperature is about 10 minutes, i find thats plenty of time to saute everything and then swap over to either pressure cook or slow cook. hope this helps

Hi I just bought one of these Fast slow cooker pro yesterday from Briscoes, mine is a 650 not 700. Is this one OK as it seems only the 200 or 700 is mentioned here and the 200 was recalled. After reading all the problems with this cooker, I am hoping all goes well with my one

Hi Donna, the 650 is for most purposes, the 200 without the recall problem. Its a basic model, while the 700 has more settings. It all depends on how much you want to use it for. I used my 200 for casseroles, curries, soups and rices but never really got into cooking puddings and cakes in it. I'm upgrading to the 700 and will give more styles of cooking a go.

I used it for the first time tonight for bone broth, it cooked it well, but what a mess with all the steam and froth coming out of release valve, I placed the cooker under the exhaust fan in the kitchen and everything was dripping all over the place.
I can't use it and then have to wash all my range hood grills
I checked the instruction book and it states auto quick, auto pulse, natural
I pressed steam release thinking it would show on the screen which one to chose but it did not
When it stopped cooking the mess was unbelievable
How do I select one of these?

I think my silicone seal is too loose which can lead to the lid not sealing properly if i am not super careful to ensure it is sitting correctly. Can i get a replacement seal from Breville which may fit better?

Sorry, I haven't had an issue with my seal, so I haven't had to get a replacement. I always remove the seal when cleaning the lid, and I know that it's important to ensure that the seal is fitted correctly back inside the guide rail after cleaning.

First off I am from America, and for some reason, even after I deleted cookies, it won't let me go to the North American version of the site.

We could not get the lid to seal if the pressure pop up thing was directly in the middle. After trying 4 times and waiting forever to be told the lid was not sealing (popup centered), my older sister had a go. She noted that while turning the lid as many times as we did that it would ding once, then multiple dings the further you turned the lid. She stopped turning the lid as soon as the first ding happened. I checked the centering of the popup, and it appeared to be 2-3 mm off center, so I was concerned the popup could not popup. Unit sealed and popup had room. Are we off base here? Does one ding mean we hit the spot, and 3 that the lid is turned too far?

If we can keep it sealing properly using this method (on the first try), should we still consider calling customer service (in the US of course) for a replacement?

Thank you very much.

Yeah I have already read about ceramic and apparently its no better than other non stick coatings as they all chip off and wear away.

Instant Pot has stainless steel inner pot. It is available on Amazon UK though IP Australia will commence this year. Don't buy US model from US as it runs on different voltage.

What is the difference between sear, saute, and reduce? I read somewhere that hi on reduce is equivalent to low on saute. Is that true? Where does sear fit in?

1 answer
Breville
BrevilleBreville

Hi Ben - the test kitchen manager has advised:

Sear (high heat) is to sear/brown meat. Work in batches for best results. Beginning of the pressure or slow cooking.
Saute (medium low heat) and is for carrots, onions and celery. The onions will softened and turn translucent. Beginning of the pressure or slow cooking.
Reduce (on high) and is after the pressure or slow cooking to reduce and thicken the sauce. It only works with the lid open for the water to evaporate until the sauce has thickened.

Hope this is useful.
