I wouldn't have a clue. Is your S80 a 2.5l turbo, a 2.9l, a 3.2l, a 2.4l turbo diesel, a 2.8l turbo, a 2.9l twin turbo, a 3.0l turbo, a 4.4l V8??????????
You've asked a vague question. In any case, stay away from Castrol, it's a crap product.

I think there are 2 issues, here 1 is it is a European car, 2 it is a more 'old ' car
Engine oil is a very intriguing topic, only certain oil suits certain car, or even certain model series, best I found is to talk to Supercheap or Repco sales, they are very knowledgeable, Supercheap has customer accessible software screen.
I am not a fan of Castrol 5W-30 after comparing it to all other brands except Volvoline which I had not tried, I read a lot on the topic too. Castrol Edge 5-30 vapourises a lot & breaks down very fast. For my Corolla, both 6 & 10 years old, Shell Helix HX8 or Penrite Full zinc 5-30 are best, Nulon is not bad, Mobil 1 is OK, Castrol is essentially a low grade synthetic oil.
I doubt anyone will recommend you such a thin oil 5W-30 at all, using thinner oil is very dangerous to your engine pistons.

Hi
I have been using Castrol Edge 5W/30 API (SL) for its 67,000klms I have just started using for the first time Castrol Edge 5W/40 API (SN) My question is will the Castrol Edge 5W/40 be ok to use as the manufacture states to use 5W/30? I bought the 5W/40 because it was cheaper will it cause any problems or should i go back to the 5W/30. The car is a holden commodore SV6 2009 model

I don't see it causing any problems. It may increase fuel consumption at bit & decrease throttle response. Personally I would keep using 5W30 for at least another 100K km.

Do not use any oil higher than W30 if your car reququire only W30 . The higher the number the more viscose the oil will be when the engine is reaching the running temperature, the first number before the W is the viscosity of the oil when the engine is cold. When you start the engine and the engine is cold (that is the first number before W )and is saying how fluid is the oil when cold, the lowest number is 0W so it will still be fluid below -40 degree. W40 is the number with higher viscosity than W30 when engine will be warm and it will not circulate inside the engine as is ticker and the oil pressure will be higher as well and could result in not so efficient lubrification, always check manufacturing spec on oil and use the correct viscosity when engine is warm and if you live in cold weather make sure you are using the correct number too, otherwise when you start the engine it will not lubrificate your engine as it will be too thick.

If you have the Turbo engine then I would recommend Castrol 10W 50 from now through summer. If you are running on NA engine then yes, 5W 30 to 5W 40 will be fine to top off your engine

Take it to VW, they do a free top up. It needs the Castrol Edge Professional oil.

Depends...you have the owners manual, it will say there which spec and brand of oil (brand should be same as whats in the engine). If in doubt contact your dealer.

It doesn't meet the latest VW specs, look for an oil that meets VW 504/507
