After sales service

published

Three years ago I purchased 5 Cooper ST Maxx 285 x70 R17.They had travelled 65K on all terrains & had been rotated every 8-10k. A 50mm tear developed in the side wall of one tyre, and two other tyres developed smaller 5-10 mm splits. All on the white letter side. The tyres were inspected by Coopers SA representative. All tyres replaced. The cost to me was approximately 1/3 the new tyre price, with a fourth tyre purchased at a very good price to give me a set of 4. A+++ to Coopers for their after sales service & guarantee & to Bridgestone Victor Harbor.

Had the old style A/T's on my Patrol never a problem. Traded her in on a Prado and popped a set of S/T MAXX on it. Highway is quiet, good on a wet road, Sandy beaches are no problem on Fraser, Out to Longreach and beyond towing a 21ft caravan. Never had so much as a puncture.
I see comments such as Dangerous in the wet or No good for mud, and punctured on a rocky track etc. super important to make sure your tyre pressures are right for the environment your driving. You simply can't put 40 odd psi in your tyres and expect to drive anywhere. 28 for rocky terrain, 18 for beach and 40 for highway has always been my guide. Works for me and has for 30+ years. When these Coopers wear out there will definitely be another set going on.

A lot of K's on & off road and never a problem

I've ran Cooper STT and St Max's on our GU patrol for over 7 years with trips to all over this country along every thinkable road surface and condition and they have performed extremely well. Excellent grip to the point that my wife has no issues driving along corrugated dirt roads, can't quite say the same for other tire combinations we have had. Only issue we had was in the N.T where one of the tires couldn't be balanced and a full new replacement was provided no questions asked. The first set we replaced at 80,000 only because again we were going remote and wanted some piece of mind.

Awsome tyres

Have the latest Cooper ST Maxx 265/65/17r fitted to Toyota Hilux, live in Tasmania, where it gets prety wet, and from day one drove on the tyres in pouring rain, tyres where great in the wet, & ofcourse as you would expect great off road. Studied all the big brands before making my purchase like micky thompson, bf goodrige, bridgstone hankook, yokohama, ect, and when your looking to spend over $300 a tyre, you look for the tyre with the most features & benifets to you. So 1. cooper have a great agressive looking tyre. 2. cooper have 80,000 klm warranty, 3. Aromor Tek carcass construction side walls, and 4. three years of testing in the australian outback, Do the others have or pomote this ?? The choice was easy for me.

Dangerous

I have only owned 4WD in my 25 years of driving
Cooper ST Max are the worst tyre I have ever used, in my opinion they make the split rim dunlop profile a master in comparison. Ok in the dirt however they are supposed to be an all-terrain, nothing short of dangerous in the wet, from day one, never again back to BFG.

Overpriced crap

published

I believed the considerable hype and bought these expensive tyres.
Dangerous in the wet and prone to delaminating make them a very bad choice and the so called warranty is a joke.
A friend of mine had a cruiser fitted with these too and had troubles off road with punctures and on road with grip and off course that woeful warranty. So much so that we are now telling all that will listen NOT to buy these.

Great tyres overall

published

Have these tyres fitted to our Prado 150 in a 265/65/17. Have been fantastic for the past 30,000kms. Only issue we've had with them is in slick, clay mud. Other than that they have been great for on road driving without any issues in the wet and a variety of off road driving from sand to high speed gravel and rocks. Will be looking to get them again although in a larger size for a bit more clearance, 275/70/17.

Good product when suited to correct purpose

published

Overall a pretty good product that performs very well in dirt and gravel roads. Found it very acceptable in sand but not as good as the ST /C, required a few lower psi for patrol. Have over 40k and wearing well should be good for 70-80k. Doesn't chip like the ST-C the . But requires a meticulous rotation, unlike the ST-C which wore very even and no scalloping. No punctures to date but I have not subjected the Maxx's to the tortuous terrains the previous 3 sets of coopers faced and all passed. But have faith in the brand. Due to relocation mostly do sand driving on weekends with normal highway thru week which it performs admirably. Just remember guys it is a compromise tyre, a jack of all trades master of none.

upgrade from 285 to 315 Cooper ST to ST MAX

What can I say, quite, drives like a new car, stops well and looks great. Fitted to a 2004 Patrol with 80, 000 kms. Looking forward to see what k's I get.

From the supplier - The new S/TMAXX arrives after three years in the making, tested in Australia’s outback and introducing Cooper’s proven Armor-Tek3 carcass construction for the first time in an all-terrain tyre. There is now a tyre constructed and designed to thrive in Australia’s harshest conditions, while still offering great on-road characteristics.

Toughness and still liveable

published

The ST Maxx is one of few tyres that can be classified as a genuine all terrain tyre 50/50 road v offroad. Been running my set of LT265/65R17's on my Discovery 4 for around 18 months. Sure they are noisier, but look at the tread pattern and depth and one will see why. On my vehicle they have around 25k, and still look new. Every vehicle will wear differently due to factors such as weight and suspension geometry. No punchers yet when offroad. I like them, the only other true alternative is the new Bfgoodrich KO2 which has some new changes.

Better than BFG All Terrains

published

Moved from BFG A/T's to Cooper ST's, a backward step. The then low km ST's aged 50K+ km after a 12K return trip to Kimberleys (Melb to Broome via the Tanami Track, then Gibb River Road, Kulumbaru Road, home via Oodnadatta Track and the Flinders Ranges.) Replaced 2 X ST's with the new ST Maxx tyres a year ago and these still look new after 14k to Cape York returning home via Kulumbaru, Lawn Hill. Towed an Ultimate Camper on both trips. The ST Maxx tyres are really excellent and in my opinion better the BFG A/T's for noise and in the wet on the blacktop. The blow the ST's out of the water.

Surprisingly minimal road noise

Drove my 2014 Ford PX XLT straight from the dealer to the tyre fitter.
Had done my research and narrowed the new treads done to Mickeys or Cooper.
absolutely stoked with the Cooper ST Maxx.
Bugger all road noise, and handles beyond expectations in the bogs.
Happy with my purchase.
Very minimal road noise

i love my Cooper S/T maxx

published

i use Cooper S/T MAXX 245/75/16 on my Isuzu Dmax, when i originally purchased them, the tyre dealership told me to run 40psi (cold) for optimal on road performance, 30psi on rock/gravel surface, 22psi on sand & mud........... now i've been running these pressures for only 21,000k's rotating every 10,000k's ......The tyres have got me through some hairy situations now my friends are looking out for the same although they want 33's.
Aggressive tread pattern, Positive traction.
a wee bit expensive, but if you want the best, it'll cost you!

Hey guys I have got the cooper st/maxx tyres put on my 2018 hilux, I seem to get a lot of vibration in the Ute, through the whole cab, seats and everything, when driving on rougher sealed roads, haven’t taken it off road or on gravel as yet but I’d imagine it would do much the same if not worse, I haven’t taken it back into the shop yet, just thought I’d ask your opinions first! any ideas? thanks in advance

I would be straight back to the shop, it sounds like a balance or alignment issue. Do a good visual check on all tyres to be sure they are identical specifications and there are no tread defects.

Stuart J

I'm assuming all the basics are checked or attended to by the tyre fitter/supplier
Ie Each wheel balanced and alignment all good at time of fitment - and that the vibration has occurred only after the Coopers went on?
Not too sure what your original tyres were but some of the newer HiLuxes we have seen have come standard with a road-bias tyre which run quietly and smoothly on bitumen. The ST Maxx is quite a blocky thing and will run noisy and a bit viby on bitumen, but not to the extent that it intrudes into the cab.
If you can't cover the noise by turning the radio up (hahaha) then it sounds like you have a greater problem than that
If you have access to an old set of tyres (still legal tread but on the way out) swap the Coopers out and see if the vibes stop
Unfortunately, if you do find that the Coopers are the source of the problem you then enter the world of despair that is the Coopers "Warranty Process"
Unless you have a really good supplier - or a lot of time and money to spend pursuing an American Company internationally - then you are pretty much doomed
If you can make it more expensive for Coopers to ignore you than it is to replace the tyres (or refund your money !!!) they may act in your favour
To this point I do not know anyone who has had successful Cooper-factory warranty replacement
The 'Warranty' replacement is usually provided by the local supplier (often at his own expense) so HE doesn't get a bad name for supplying tyres that have failed or have been faulty at time of supply
I do know suppliers who will no longer stock Coopers - in Brisbane,Townsville, Mackay, Rocky, Blackall, Longreach - citing that as one of the reasons
Coopers make more consistent quality TV ads than they do tyres
Good luck
