I enjoy the costco experience and products (mostly)
I always enjoy our visits to costco (docklands, VIC). The quality of non-food items have been great. The prices are decent too, however spending can get out of control as they stock items you wouldn't usually see.
I needed to return an item once (childrens back pack) and it was no fuss despite the bag being 6 month old.
Food is hit or miss depending on personal preference. I find the food is more processed/sugary than what you would find elsewhere, however they stock a lot of usual brands you would find at the supermarket.
The customer service isn't anything special. The employees dont really smile. Its bleak. However the store itself makes up for it.
Its an expensive outing but I always enjoy it

Plan the shop
With Costco I don't find there to be a lot of saving.
If you work out ur shop and buy things on special at Coles and woolies you land up saving a lot more.
Don't fall for the bulk buying tactics work with ur budget

Great lifetime warranty cover, no hassle, no need receipt
Yes you need to pay for the membership fees $60 which is nothing because it gives you a lifetime warranty cover. They will check your receipt before leaving the warehouse, costco card has to matched with your credit card when making purchases. i think it is all because you do not need to show a receipt when you want to refund for a product. So you can imagine if someone else is using your card and purchases are recorded to your card and how messy it gets when returning the products. This practice applies at other wholesaler such as MACRO (do no...Read more
t confuse this with the organic food supply). We purchased an outdoor shed, returned it a year after, cost about $1,000, no hassle and it is all done. We got the money refunded to our credit card. No drama. We bought 6 bottles of wine. We opened 2 and did not like it. So we returned all and we received refund for all six. I read other reviewers comments about products are nearly expired, etc. If you are not happy, just return the products and get your money back. In regards to the staffs, some are very helpful. I went there with two young toddlers and was not able to carry anything. The staff helped me to do everything and loaded it to my car. But there was also an instance where the staff was a bit rude and treated me like I am some kind of uneducated person. Then I looked at the customers there, some of them are a bit "barbaric" and rude and treat the staffs really bad and I think this creates a vicious circle. So I don't blame them. Shop for the products anyway, and the peace of mind that you have a lifetime warranty as long as you subscribe to their membership which is only $60 per year. We will buy a new laptop one of these days. Normally we bought it at other electronic shops. But the lifetime warranty is just unbeatable. Especially with electronic stuffs where you get some lemon.1 comment

Greek salad !!!! standard BAD!!
Salad was soggy heaps of water in the tray, lettuce was dark green through some bits and around edges must be at least two weeks old even though it was packed yesterday!! No crispy lettuce to be found. Absolutely terrible..

Not competetively priced
When you weigh up the membership, the additional travel time (fuel, tolls, wear&tear), and cost of parking (onsite parking is terrible and often you have to go to a nearby paid parking lot) you expect to purchase competitively priced products. Well you do not. Buying single items has not price advantage over a nearby store to your home. Buying in bulk will yield some savings, but why not buy bulk online and save yourself the hassle of driving there and waiting in long queues. You will find there are plenty sellers online who will sell in bulk and deliver to your door at competitive prices.

Costco, Docklands Melbourne
Very bad experience from the customer service person when entering the costco store.
We were greeted by a rude staff member upon entering the store inside and were waiting 10 minutes to enter into the carpark which we had to pay to park in.
I will not recommend costco to anyone.
The membership price is too expensive and i will not be shopping at any costco stores any longer.
Poor customer service and rude staff members.
Rude staff, unfriendly manner, long wait in carpark.

Perhaps not for me
Can be savings - but vastly outweighed by impulse buying (my fault I know). But a culture of distrust at registers and on the way in and out the doors. Staff on the three separate occasions over 2 years that I have indicated I am slightly less than happy with some aspect of attitude really go out of their way to let you know they are right and must have the last word - never have a problem anywhere else.
Attitude mostly - like they are doing you a favour

I dunno... I sorta like it... but sorta don't.
I initially became a member after seeing some address labels that were about 75% cheaper than what I usually pay, so the membership was really worth it for me. Then all of a sudden they didn't have them (really I almost cried) I asked several workers if they still had them or would they be getting them in etc.. but no-one I could find really had a brain in their heads. I kept going back to see if they still had them, but alas no. Apart from the label saga, I found the place a bit depressing. Especially the cafe. A few things that were good valu...Read more
e were mozzarella cheese, frozen blueberries and vanilla essence. Also their veges are pretty good (huge tubs of spinach, mushrooms etc) Some of the food in there is just horrible... the most massive frightening cakes you've ever seen, horrible looking pre made platters of god knows what, boxes of lollies the size of a 6 year old! One advantage of membership to the Docklands store is that you can park your car in the carpark and look around the strange and deserted shopping area of Harbourtown. The novelty of it I don't feel right when I'm in there!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Love Costco
I love Costco and am so thrilled that I can finally buy familiar products (yes I am from North America where Skippy is not a kangaroo and I can get my hands on A&W root beer without paying a fortune) at decent prices. The $55 membership fee for businesses and $60 fee for everyone else is what helps make the products cheaper to consumers because it becomes a club of international sellers and buyers who in many cases can sell without paying huge taxes for setting up overseas. This means that Costco will sell Australian products overseas just l...Read more
ike we can buy American ones. Everyone wins and the savings amount to more than $60 compared to shopping at the local supermarkets. When I go to Coles and Woolies I feel that they are stealing us blind and I have always felt ripped off! The worst part was I couldn't do much about it but now I can let my dollars do the talking! Can't wait till they open their doors in Ringwood so I can walk there daily! I just find it interesting that Australians don't seem to like North Americans too much but then quickly take to the American way of life without complaining and without giving credit where it is due!!! This still baffles me. Costco is American as is McDonald's, KFC, Dominos, Pizza Hut and Crispy Creme etc. Please be nice the next time you meet someone from the other side of the world! Peace out. good prices, lots of products from all over the world, great food and some healthy choices, great warranty and they sell everything including food, electronics, clothing, booze and flowers I can't fault anything but sometimes the sizes of products is too large for my likingSimilar opinion? I love Costco!! It's an exciting place to shop!
I was so pleased when Costco arrived in Australia, having been a loyal supporter of the store while living in the USA. To me, it's like an adults candy shop....you are never quite sure what surprises you will find. The stores are all set out the same so you know whatever store you are in, you can find exactly what you are looking for. The seasonal items are terrific and the everyday items are always a lot cheaper than buying at the local supermarket. I have always found the customer service to be great. If you are having a party or just like to save and buy in bulk, there is no other place to shop. Hope they bring in the loyalty bonus program they in the USA!
Great bulk buying. Extensive range of products

Just some update. I am not sure when (perhaps about 2 years ago), although they state that it is a lifetime warranty, based on my personal experience, they are getting tougher in assessing a refund.

They will check on their computer system, look at the item's reasonable useful life and the manager will make the final call whether it falls within the reasonable time or not. For instance, we purchase an item for $100 and after 3 years it broke down. We took it back and were told that it was the expected useful life.
