OK while it worked...
The fan I purchased (DCPFAC40) has apparently been discontinued. It worked well until the blades became loose, fell off and broke. Dimplex stated that "it's not cost effective for us to supply parts for these products". I assume that's true of all their fans, etc. I guess it's more cost effective for them if I throw it away and buy a new one. It was not cheap. No more Dimplex for me!
Great price for a floor stand high velocity fan
I used a high velocity floor fan previously which isn't great for sitting on a computer in a hot room the angle just doesn't work great combined with a chair. I couldn't get a high velocity pedestal fan to replace it just didn't seem to exist yet so i was extremely happy when i found this.
One thing about a lot of these reviews I really don't get is people are buying a high velocity fan expecting it to be quiet. Anyone who bought a high velocity fan expecting a quiet fan needs to delete their review because you cant move massive amounts of ai
... Read morer without noise. Its impossible. You buy these fans to move lots of air around a room or dry the sweat off your skin as its coming out of your pores. These are not meant to be quiet and reviewing one like they were disappointed it was loud is a disappointment in itself because its not the products fault they didn't ask questions or do enough research before buying. But if you have a rental and no ceiling fans or air conditioner i can tell you now you will love how this feels as your falling asleep and wont care about the noise at all.Dimplex High Velocity Fan
I am very satisfied with the Fan performance. This fan's speed one is ten times faster than the other fan's highest speed which is available from Target or Kmart. Even the fan can rotate more than 180 degrees whereas other fans cannot do the same. Only one thing I don't like is its little bit loud.

The fan is of excellent craftsmanship and has not failed once on me since purchase and provides more than enough power to cool my home office during these hot summer days. Along with this, the circular base works well to keep the fan standing without taking up much space and saves me from a nasty little hazard whenever I decide to turn it off during the night. The level of noise is slightly too loud however even given the output.

Too noisy for a bedroom
I tried it in the store and thought the noise level was acceptable, so I may have been unlucky with the one I got but it was very loud, whether it was on oscillation or not. This is the second "high velocity" fan I've tried. The other (a different band) was quieter but the motor overheated and blew my power-board after just 3 weeks of moderate use. Have reverted to old fashioned plastic now and doing fine. That's a pity as I ventured into the metal because more than enough plastic is going into landfill.
This fan is brilliant
We purchased this fan for our bedroom - our house only has small top opening windows and on hot days after full sun through windows, is like an oven. This fan has a heavy base, so is very stable. It really is high velocity and works fantastic. My only problem is that my children keep borrowing it for their rooms and now I'll have to buy two more! Its not too noisy and we've had it now for quite awhile with no problems whatsoever. Would highly recommend.
Great Pedestal Fan - So long as it works!
Mine conked out just after the 2 year warranty expired - the switch was faulty (we think) because the fan would come on and then immediately turn off, rendering the unit useless. Couldn't get any help from Dimplex (who are located in Victoria by the way) and repairers can't get spare parts and/or won't touch them as it's uneconomic.
During the time it was working, however it was great. Quality build and finish (not withstanding that mine was faulty.) Chrome metal finish and metal blades. The base is circular - I wouldn't buy a pedestal fan w

A bit noisy but you can set the timer to turn it off after 1,2 or 4 hours. Has a remote so you can switch off without getting out of bed. Both the latter are I think essential features for use in a bedroom at night. Oscillates, but creates a draft so powerful we didn't need to use this feature. I've looked for a replacement and can't find another pedestal fan as good as this one. I'll keep looking. Chrome finish, metal blades, powerful airflow, timer, remote control, height adjustable, base is round and solid. Faulty switch - unusable after 2 years and a few months of spartan use.Good
I think that this is a better option for those seeking relief from the heat, we have had portable evaporative coolers and they make noise as well and leave water marks on the carpet, these fans make you shiver but are not as cold as the reverse split systems we have down stairs they can get very icy. Does the job, we have 4 of them for all the bedrooms and we are all very happy.
cool air flow, lot more airflow than the standard fan, the lowest setting is equivilant to the highest setting on a plastic osilating floor fan, does large areas and rooms with high ceilings because of the velocity. Atractive.
A bit noisy at night, would like an even lower setting.
OK
I bought this fan 2 years ago at Harvey Norman, and have used it all summer long. The only thing that bugs me is the noise factor. While stationary, its not as bad as when you put it on swing. It could be better, but it definitely does the job of keeping you cool.
Adjustable stand so you can choose your desired height, its has 3 different speeds, reasonably cheap to purchase, can be stationary or swing left to right.
Very noisy so it keeps you awake if you try to sleep with it on, the power cord is really short so you often can't place it where you would like.

Questions & Answers
The fan is about two years old and motor that turns the blades is now producing a loud grinding noice on any one of its three speeds. Is this easily fixed?
Perhaps some oil will help?
Thanks Phil. I tried spraying some WD40 along the shaft that goes into the motor but didn't over do it as I was afraid of the motor shorting out. do you think I should spray the shaft and allow the lubricant to enter the motor?
Not sure mate if it was me I'd probably try it since it sounds like it is currently so noisy it would be unusable anyway.
