OK while it worked...

The fan I purchased (DCPFAC40) has apparently been discontinued. It worked well until the blades became loose, fell off and broke. Dimplex stated that "it's not cost effective for us to supply parts for these products". I assume that's true of all their fans, etc. I guess it's more cost effective for them if I throw it away and buy a new one. It was not cheap. No more Dimplex for me!

Too noisy for a bedroom

I tried it in the store and thought the noise level was acceptable, so I may have been unlucky with the one I got but it was very loud, whether it was on oscillation or not. This is the second "high velocity" fan I've tried. The other (a different band) was quieter but the motor overheated and blew my power-board after just 3 weeks of moderate use. Have reverted to old fashioned plastic now and doing fine. That's a pity as I ventured into the metal because more than enough plastic is going into landfill.

This fan is brilliant

We purchased this fan for our bedroom - our house only has small top opening windows and on hot days after full sun through windows, is like an oven. This fan has a heavy base, so is very stable. It really is high velocity and works fantastic. My only problem is that my children keep borrowing it for their rooms and now I'll have to buy two more! Its not too noisy and we've had it now for quite awhile with no problems whatsoever. Would highly recommend.

Great Pedestal Fan - So long as it works!

Good

I think that this is a better option for those seeking relief from the heat, we have had portable evaporative coolers and they make noise as well and leave water marks on the carpet, these fans make you shiver but are not as cold as the reverse split systems we have down stairs they can get very icy. Does the job, we have 4 of them for all the bedrooms and we are all very happy.
cool air flow, lot more airflow than the standard fan, the lowest setting is equivilant to the highest setting on a plastic osilating floor fan, does large areas and rooms with high ceilings because of the velocity. Atractive.
A bit noisy at night, would like an even lower setting.

OK

I bought this fan 2 years ago at Harvey Norman, and have used it all summer long. The only thing that bugs me is the noise factor. While stationary, its not as bad as when you put it on swing. It could be better, but it definitely does the job of keeping you cool.
Adjustable stand so you can choose your desired height, its has 3 different speeds, reasonably cheap to purchase, can be stationary or swing left to right.
Very noisy so it keeps you awake if you try to sleep with it on, the power cord is really short so you often can't place it where you would like.

The fan is about two years old and motor that turns the blades is now producing a loud grinding noice on any one of its three speeds. Is this easily fixed?

Perhaps some oil will help?

Thanks Phil. I tried spraying some WD40 along the shaft that goes into the motor but didn't over do it as I was afraid of the motor shorting out. do you think I should spray the shaft and allow the lubricant to enter the motor?

Not sure mate if it was me I'd probably try it since it sounds like it is currently so noisy it would be unusable anyway.
