Hi there, my CFX 50 runs on 240v, runs on 12 volt in emergency override (so the fuse is good) but it wont run in normal 12volt operation. The dual battery is currently sitting on 13.4 volts and the fridge is set to Low voltage shutoff. Any ideas / thoughts as to why it wont run would be greatly appreciated. P.s we are thousands of KMs from home.

Probably your emergency override is switched on! Check it

After rereading instructions I realised I wanted it at 4 degrees not -4. The problem fixed itself after that. Will keep override switch in mind . Thank you for your reply.

Hi Mano, Yep same sort of thing happened with the first one we had. It's stuffed. Take it back. As I mentioned in my testimonial it seems the first few batches had faults but our 3rd one we can't fault. It's actually working better than My Engel and my ARB!! The temperature pulls down in no time compared with the others. Don't bother listening to the retailers, just demand a new one or go to the Ombudsman. Make sure you inform them you intend to do so.
Best of luck

Strange question Alan. You seem to have access to the internet. For any information on Dometic fridges in general you would do better accessing the manufacturer's site, not ask important technical questions of laymen.

where can I find a diagram(manual for the compressor) or youtube vid showing how to replace/remove main pcb board as Ive heard that you can use an air can and some contact cleaner for an easy fix if your fridge only works on emergency override.Otherwise I will replace the main PCB board.

I have a CFX50 that starts ok in 240 & 12 volt.
Turning it on no green light comes on or Red error light.
Just a solid orange light.
The CFX50 begins cooling and reaches -22 then begins to come down in temp to around +5 then begins cooling again back up to -22.
Have tried it on normal & override positions no difference.
The Digital readout on Control PCB shows unreadable numbers ie: the numbers are not fully displayed.
When pressing the set button, can step thru the sequence and change tof C or Friday and Low Mediterranean High. BUT cannot set the Temperature mode
It is set on +10 but cannot set it.
It freezes the cabinet as said to -21.
I have ordered a new Upper Digital Control PCB to swap out this faulty PCB.
I have remove the Main PCB, disconnected the connector and cleaned with Electronic Spray Cleaner -reassembled AND CFX50 fires up and dies as described an the beginning of my questions.
Iso the PCB the likely cause of the hiccup??
Thank you in advance for your input & suggestion/s.

How do I remove the power control board in a 3 year old CFX-50.
The 12 volt plug has a connection problem and I suspect s dry solder. I have already tried a new power lead. It does come on but only once I find the right spot by jiggling the plug around. Inevitably it goes off when the fridge/plug gets the slightest movement.
Thanks

I can answer my own query. It may help someone else.
When removing the the lower power inlet panel, there is one screw under the sticker that needs to be removed.
After messing about for ages, I got the panel off only to find that the dodgy solder had totally snapped off. This can only be caused from the factory.
My 2 Engel's have never given me a bit if trouble.

Could be the Theron coupling, you can order for about 30 dollars delivered, make sure you get the soft thermal paste then you can replace yourself, will save 150 in labour

Our fridge is 3 years old and used to work well, but started playing up in the last year or so. Replaced camper battery which we thought was the problem but still having the same issue with it cutting out and not cooling. Plugged into friends camper which was effectively cooling a cfx-75 and same problem, so doesn’t seem to be battery, although does work in the car with motor running and also on 240V. Is there a way of adjusting the cut off voltage, as it seems to be too high?

Will change from green to orange more when on a battery or solar panels, could be the cig socket end has broken the solder so not contacting properly which will cause the green light to come on more, try a mates lead And see if it still does it

I am not an expert & can only go off what is in the manual. But my fridge on occasion has been a little temperamental, so I "reboot" the fridge, like a mobile or computer. ie remove both AC & DC leads for a minute, AC will override DC. Then plug in only one one of the leads, not both if you had both plugged in. If running off DC test the fridge voltage as close as you can at the fridge with a multi meter, NOT at the battery end! Try another battery if necessary. I run the fridge off gel batteries & a Victr_n MPPT solar regulator, not the rubbish regulators on the back of solar panels which should be at the battery end (plenty of forums explaining proper 12 volt setup).

I also replaced the 55 cm (110 cm +&-) of 12 volt wiring to the circuit board inside the fridge with 10 gauge wire as the wire in the fridge really could have been a bit heavier than the 16AWG. It is probably the same situation with all manufacturers saving 2 cents. & Installed a circuit breaker while at it.

I have a Waeco CFX 50 set at 2 degrees as fridge on both sides which works perfectly on power but when just on battery (Engle) either travel or sitting raises to 10/11 degrees. The compressor keeps cutting off quickly with a thump. Any ideas as to why?

Hi, My CFX50 while in car manages to turn itself down to minus 22 while driving in sealed roads.
While it normally just sits in my shed on its bench set on minus 0.3 which it does not move.
Is there anything that could be loose that I could check.

If you interrupt the power without turning fridge off with button on panel the can loose the temp setting and default to -22, not sure if there is a fix for this issue but it will pay to re set the temp settings every time you disconnect from one power source and power up from another or even the same supply .

Thanks Charles
I will check the power supply has nothing loose as the power supply is a direct feed from the battery.

Hi,
We have a Dometic CFX-50 that is just under a year old. Quite often, when opening the lid, the interior light begins flashing continuously. Instructions say this warning should come on after 3 minutes. On this cooler, sometimes the light starts flashing immediately and will remain flashing on successive openings. (Just to check and see if it is still flashing.) 36-41 degrees is approximately the temperature cycle range.
Would you have any idea what the problem may be? The cooler is plugged in to 110v and is located on the floor inside our RV. The cooler has been used for less than a month total time since we purchased it from Amazon.
Thank you.

I bought this unit about 3 years ago for my sailing boat which is based in Malaysia. The unit has worked pretty well until for some reason it stopped running on 240AC shore power. About 18 months ago. Anyway i have been using it off my 12V DC since then until a few days ago when my boat keeper reported that the temp display was showing 60C but frdge contents appear chilled. A few days later I asked him to check on the 200AH AGM house battery and it had fallen dramatically to 11.2V which is practically flat. It appears that the motor has been running 24/7 and has drained the batteries completely. The low voltage switch was either set too low or malfunctioned. Is the thermostat and the low voltage cut off switch one unit? BTW, managed to recover the two flat batteries and they are now fully charged but not risking connecting to the fridge as Im not there to monitor the situation.

1 answer
charles.rose.58
charles.rose.58

The thermostat (Thermister) has likely failed causing the 24/7 running, the 240 v problem was probably caused by a voltage spike that has blown the 240 part of the power circuit board, new board required or repair. If you haven't already tested 240v with another known to be good cord try that first.

Hi, my display is about 10-15 degrees out. I ran a test when set at 10 degrees it will freeze a bottle of water over night & the thermometer I placed in there was reading -3. Basically I can't use it as a fridge, only a freezer. Thermistor or a PSB issue? Thanx

Hi Tommy

Before answering, I’ll ask what kind of environment the fridge is or has been used in, and what it’s been exposed to (I.e. water, direct sun (on the tray of a Ute for example), vibration and being bounced around?).

These are great fridges, and provided the environment is good they should provide a long service life trouble free.

Given you’ve said on both 240v and 12v it’s taking a long time to chill, I assume you have a solid connection to power (I.E. the connections are not loose), it could be a thermostat issue, or otherwise the compressor may be faulty.

I’d recommend checking the connections are secure and not dodgy, replacing the fuse, and then if it’s still no good, take it in for a checkover.

If it’s the environment you’re using it in, or you’ve loaded it with hot drinks and food, perhaps an evaluation of that method could make things happen quicker for you.

That said, it should get below zero very easily.

Cheers
Keith

Me too. My thermistor died after 7 years. I replaced the thermistor and all systems looked good but l could mot get the temp down to the previous -11C, only to -6C. Now after 2 weeks, it only gets to -1C, regardless of the temp selected.
The compressor cycles at the temp shown, but runs continuously if l try to lower the temp past -1C.
Did l get a faulty thermistor????
Help please.
