Not fairdinkum and would not use them again.

published

Was unable to fly to amsterdam to pick up the car that was booked and paid for over a month. This was due to world wide coronavirus. Refund has been absolutely shocking. We where also offered a voucher to use by end Oct,2020. There is no way we could get back this year so the voucher is useless. We have been right royally done. All other bookings we made have been very generous and we have had a great result, so we will try to give them business in the future but we will not use Drive away again because they have burnt us.

Forced to cancel

published

Myself and my wife booked a driving holiday in New Zealand with a 6 berth campervan. Due to the corona virus and New Zealand shutting their borders, we have now had to postpone our trip.

All other bookings including flights, hotels for our first 2 nights in New Zealand and activities have given us a refund or allowed us to postpone or given us full credit for when we re-book our trip apart from Driveaway. Driveaway will not give us credit and allow us top postpone, they have forced us to cancel. As they have forced us to cancel, we will lose over 70% of our money.

I will not book with Driveaway ever again.

Beware of bookings with Avis

published

We booked cars in both UK and Europe through Driveaway. The UK rental was with Eurocar and was fine. The European rental was through Avis. Firstly our travel agent told us there was no one way fee when he booked the car. On collecting the car it was revealed that there was an €800 one way fee. We changed our itinerary to reduce this fee and suffered a car park door dent.
Avis charge €462 ($750AUD) for the damage. I obtained an online quoted of $165 (€100) from an Australian panel beater. I have since read that it is common practice for Avis to search for damage and charge exorbitantly.

Excellent. Car booked in Oz for USA

published

The entire process was trouble free. We booked and fully paid in Oz for a rental car to be collected at Palm Springs in the USA - with DriveAway. It worked out far cheaper doing it this way. We made sure we got a package that covered all the different insurances. Hertz at Palm Springs could not have been nicer or more efficient. They also upgraded us free to a bigger car - a 2018 Nissan Sentra which was wonderful, comfortable and trouble free. The man on the desk at Hertz was so helpful. There were no hassles at all when collecting or returning. No hidden charges. Well done Driveaway on helping to make our month car rental a simple process

Waiting on explanation of additional charges

published

Pre-booked and paid for hire car. Was unexpectedly charged an additional $127 without any notice or receipt. Still waiting on an explanation and my money back.

Hidden fees, paid 3 times car price

published

Car was $288.

After subtle fees like "location fee" ended up paying $700.

Insurance is crazy price, better off doing third party.

Book with car company direct!

published

Don't book with DriveAway Holidays! Best to go to the company direct. There's no reason not to. We advised Alamo that we had to drop our car two days early (effectively changing our booking) and they said we would be refunded for the two days we didn't use but we had to notify DriveAway direct. Alamo did not charge for the upgrade and road side assistance that we did not use. Excellent! DriveAway were not as accommodating. Just a flat out NO, bad luck sort of thing. Lesson learnt for me, will go direct next time.

Slow to remedy issues but they did after 5 months

published

Great booking site unfortunately we were downgraded and duped which we have raised with this company (as soon as we returned home). After months of chasing and issues they finally refunded the money. It should have been easy but it wasn’t but in the end they did the right thing by us. Careful of Avis in Italy.

Would not recommend - Overpriced borderline scam

Great Service Every Time !!

published

I have used DriveAway numerous times to hire cars both domestically and overseas. Prices are great, service is 1st rate & I always get a car .. Unlike booking directly with Hertz, Avis etc when I have been left high and dry ....
I would recommend them to anyone ..

Ripped off

published

When I paid $1005 for 11 day’s car hire in the Cook Islands I had faith that Flight Centre would engage a wholesaler who was fair and reasonable. WRONG! Cars to hire in the Cook Islands are readily available and so much cheaper- I was totally ripped off. I could have hired an AVIS rental for hundreds of dollars cheaper. Disgusting DriveAway

Great Service!

We have used Driveway Holidays on a number of occasions now, and every time we have had a seamless experience. From the ease of booking to the excellent customer service, our entire booking was fantastic. We have booked vehicles at some of the busiest periods of the year and we have never encountered a problem. Great work!

Great service and sharp pricing

published

We have used DriveAway Holidays for 2 campervan trips, one to the US and the other to NZ. On both occasions we found the process to be seamless. Beyond basic customer service, their knowledge helped make our trips even better. Their prices were competitive and we had no nasty surprises at pick up....which is a first based on my experience with car rental! We are planning another trip next year and will be using them again.

Brilliant camper & brilliant service

published

We hired a camper from Driveaway in Canada for our family of 5. Organised from Aus and everything was simple, easy & the even upgraded our van. They went above & beyond when a few hours after leaving the van we realised our passports were still in it hidden away. They sent someone out there out of hours to retrieve for us. What could have been a disaster with missing flights for a wedding turned out so well. Wouldn’t hesitate to use them again.

We would NEVER recommend this Co.

published

They charged 3 times cost of car hire in Canada for a month in August 2017 and still Thrifty took the total cost out of our credit card so we paid 4 times actual cost. Do NOT trust prepayments. We are thousands out of pocket and still do not know what Driveaway holidays did with the money prepaid.

From the Gold Coast. I booked a car for a month thru DriveAway in November 2018. It was with Hertz, to be collected at Palm Springs airport in California USA. I can only tell of my own experience which was faultless. I paid for everything incl all the insurances, etc with DriveAway, so that I wouldn't be hit for any extras in US dollars when I got there. Everything was honoured with no hassles whatsoever. I took the Driveaway paperwork with me (which helps) Went through in 5 minutes. No suggestions from Hertz for me to take out anything extra when I collected it. AND they upgraded me to a lovely Nissan Sentra for no reason at all. The handling back in was also perfect. No extra charges, nothing hidden. I was impressed. I know a lot of the credit goes to the excellent service by Palm Springs airport Hertz branch - but a lot of the credit must go to the original booking which was so easy and was all just as stated.
