Over designed and a big disappointment
This was a replacement for a very long serving DC-05. I detest this one. The awkward to hold loop handle tries to twist your hand and wrist if you use any force at all, but due to the design of the floor tool, you have not choice but to use force. Holding onto the tube as with the DC-05 was a much better design.
The very worst aspect is the floor tool. Trying to get it to stay in carpet mode (blue skirt retracted) is annoying and inconsistent. The DC-05 had a clearly marked indicator on the head of the floor tool. You just stepped on it gently...Read more

Pretty useful
Great piece of modern technology. One wheel did fall off but Dyson customer service were great arranging the repair but the down side is it doesn’t roll the same as it did before. Great suction and always surprises me how much it fills up with dust. Very easy to use but if the cord was longer it would be a better product.

Very hard to push vacuum head on carpet
Have just purchased cinetic big ball multi head, the suction is excellent. Too good, as we have a job to push the head over our 5mm cut pile carpet. We have put the head back to minimum, but it is still extremely hard to push. Have you a solution, apart from buying a turbo head for $129.

works really well now and a lot cheaper at $89. At least this one has a vent which you can open if it is sucking too hard. Something Dyson should be putting on all their latest heads. So do not buy a dyson cinetic big ball if you have a cut pile carpet as the head is useless.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Excellent
I love the fact that I don't need to ever change the filters as it does not come with any. The no bag is also good making getting rid of the rubbish better. It is powerful and you can change the suction power to suit any floor. the amount of dust that came up after our first vacuum was unbelievable.

Not multifloor waste of money
Purchased this vacuumed in hopes of using this on our hard floors and the one bit of carpet we have in the house. The muscle head tool is so hard to manoeuvre and I’ve given up on it. My wrist hurts after 5 mins of use as I struggle to use this head. I’ve read all the instructions and ways to adjust this tool and what a shame I can’t even use my vacuume cleaner it’s brand new and I just want to give up on Dyson all together.

So disappointed with the Dyson cinetic big ball multi floor
I bought this in June last year to replace my aging 15 year old Dyson. I was told by the Dyson people that it was too old to service, so I ordered another one directly from Dyson.
I first noticed that it seemed lighter, and cheaply made.
The pipe has rough plastic on the inside of the pipe so catches hair and fluff, that I have to dig out with my fingers. However when I told Dyson about this they sent me another one.... just the same.
I too have a problem with the stupid little catch, you have to be really careful when lifting the bowl of...Read more

First time Dyson user and loved it.
A bit pricey but worth it. Its queit and have way more suction power than other vaccum cleaners i used to use.
Liked the big wheel design its easy to pull it and it really wont flipped to its side as they claim.
A bit small dust tank but still easy to empty

Don't waste your money
We bought a Dyson Cinetic Big Ball just over 18months ago. I have had a Dyson before & have been happy with it however this one, which we paid nearly a $1000 for is not worth half the money. It is very flimsy. It rolled over while I was vacuuming a few months ago & the big wheel fell off. Had to take it in to be repaired. When I empty the cylinder I can never get it to go back into place & have to wait for the man of the house to come home to fix it for me, therefore wasting valuable time & I don't finish the housework! I would NEVER have bought this had I known it was soo flimsy. I wouldn't recommend it to anyone, especially because of the price we paid for it. I would expect better.

Strong reliable vacuum cleaner
Quite happy with this vacuum, when the family first got it I was amazed at the suction strength compared to our old machine. Using it on the large kitchen rug for example, often the suction is so strong it lifts the rug up off the floor, especially if the angle of the machine is very upright. However, it does a good job and im happy with it, its good to have the attachments to do carpet and floorboards as they really make the difference. One small downside is emptying the machine once rubbish reaches the red line on the rubbish collecting conta...Read more
iner. Apparently if you neglect to do so it can damage the machine, however after empting it the suction increases which is a good sign. Use it to vacuum the whole house and empty it once after, does the job well!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Amazed at suction strength
Extremely happy with this vacuum! Have never owned an expensive vacuum and so glad I spent the money on my Dyson. Not too loud, suction is amazing and I couldn’t believe the dirt and dust it picked up from my fully carpeted house that my old vacuum had missed. Recommend this to everyone!

Love it
We love this vacuum, it is easy to manoeuvre and it has amazing sucking power! The stuff this vacuum picks up is incredible! All the attachments are wonderful though I don’t use half of them. My only fault is it is heavy to carry up stairs and the lead (like all vacuums) could be longer

Best Vacuum cleaner I've ever had!
The Dyson Cinetic Big Ball is the most efficient vacuum cleaner I've bought! The suction is amazing and makes vacuuming easy and fast! It is light and highly easy to manoeuvre, however it is quite noisy, nothing unusual for a vacuum though. My favourite feature on the vacuum is the multi floor button switch enabling me to vacuum on both my tiles and carpet with great ease and efficiency!

No good on high pile carpet
Vacuum cleaner has so much suction that I cannot push it over my carpet without straining my lower back tbe head needs rollers to enable it to glide over high pile carpets, I can only use it on my timber floors and tiles.
It does have a minimum switch on tbe head and a suction release grip key but even using these 2 the head will not move without significant pressure applied to push and pull it backwards and forwards.
Not a good design unless you are very strong.

Love Dysons
We have a house full of animals.
This vacuum is perfect and gets dust, fur and dirt right out of the carpet. It’s very light weight and easy to manoeuvre. The vacuum was worth every cent and we have never had any mechanical problems with it. Friends have borrowed ours and then brought their own, they where so impressed.

Love my dyson! Works brilliantly
I've had my Dyson for two years now, and it still works as good as the day I purchased it.
It is easy to manoeuvre, quiet and the bagless function is great. The sucking power is amazing.
the only problem i've had is that the clip when you empty it and push the lid back, sometimes the lid won't close properly and you have to slam it shut.

Excellent sucker, bagless, filterless, what next?
I have used a DC29 and a V6 Animal Digital Slim before. When I saw the Ball version, I picked one up "secondhand new" on Gumtree for $320 to give to my parents. The Cinetic Ball is very similar to the DC29. It has excellent suction on flooring and carpet and there is no bag required. Emptying the barrel takes a few goes to get the hang of it but it is easier than the DC29 and other previous generations. The Ball has a smaller profile and is therefore easier to manoeuvre. I think it is a lighter machine than previous models and the ball perhaps ...Read more
makes it move more responsively. Also, if you knock it over, true to Dyson's claim, it does right itself - which is pretty cool. It's a nice gimmick but I think you could get almost the same manoeuvrability with a stable vacuum that doesn't fall over in the first place. I haven't tested this. Perhaps a Dyson rep could comment about this below? The Cinetic Big Ball is filterless which means that you don't need to remember or be reminded by Dyson, that the filters must be washed every 6 months. I thought this was an excellent selling point - less work. But when I used it, I felt that the air did not smell as clean and dust-free as with the DC29 and many other models. I believe, but cannot say definitely, that this model might be suffering from not having a filter. Dyson claims that they have perfected the dirt extraction process to the point where filters were not needed. I wonder what their data on dust particle extraction or air quality is before and after for the Ball versus filtered models? The DC29 was marketed as extracting dust particles down to the micron size but the Ball hasn't been released with such fanfare. The air definitely smelt dusty when I used the Ball. Having said this, the Ball is still an engineering marvel. It beats the "Dirt Devil" my parents were using, hands down. But there are still a few other areas where I think Dyson could do better with this model. One: The vacuum wand attaches to the vacuum body for storage but it hangs awkwardly/diagonally and takes up a lot of space. I think most customers would end up standing the wand up in a closet and not attach it to the machine because it simply would not fit in most cupboards. This is an odd design choice from Dyson. Two: this oddity was pointed out by my father. He doesn't like the power button on the machine. This is a $700 machine but the power button is an odd shaped, small transparent button jutting upwards out of the ball. It is probably durable but it looks quite fragile, like something you would hook yourself on and it looks kind of cheap compared to the rest of the design. Three: The machine is quite loud. I think it is marginally quieter than the DC29 but I thought that was way too loud (See my review of the DC29). I still think Dyson can do better with noise across all models. Four: (a positive point followed by a negative) The multi-floor tool/head that changes from brush to no brush as you go from flooring to carpet and vice versa, is a small miracle. This is one of the reasons Dyson earns it's excellent reputation. They have simple ideas that must have taken a lot of work and they make our lives easier. By comparison, the DC29 needed you to manually switch the head position when you changed from flooring to carpet etc. Maybe this is not such a big deal but it's great to not to even have to think about it. Now the problem: The head is quite large and this is probably good for big open houses with a lot of floor area and not many obstacles but personally I think smaller is better because the suction is so good, you can still cover a large area quickly with a small head. The problem is the big head bumps into things and doesn't get into small spaces. I don't think the suction is good at the edges either. Also, having lived in Japan, Japanese vacuum heads are unsurpassed in manoeuvrability. The vacuum heads suck right to the extremities, they bend every which way and fit into small spaces. Perhaps UK and Australian consumers aren't as picky about such things and Dyson hasn't bothered to innovate in this area. I think it's kind of ironic because Japan is the first country that actually took a liking to Dyson vacuums and gave Dyson much needed sales to expand and develop. Having said this, I use the V6 and this pretty much does what a Japanese vacuum can and is smaller-bodied and has better suction - so I am guessing the V6/V8 series are the big sellers in Japan now, not the Ball series. Would I recommend the Cinetic Ball model? Yes, but if you want clean smelling air, go for a filtered model. It's not hard to clean a filter every six months or so. But if you know you are likely to "forget" to clean the filter, expect the performance to drop considerably (Buying Tip: you can buy a bargain Dyson secondhand because the previous owner thinks it is broken but it just needs a filter clean!). Perhaps the Ball is better in a work place where people aren't as likely to maintain the machine or a share house where no one cares. In conclusion, I think the Cinetic Ball has excellent suction and moves quite well but Dyson can do better with this model by having a more manoeuvrable head, better wand stowage, quieter operation noise and a button that fits the design quality of the rest of the machine. They could also rethink not having a filter or somehow improve the dust-extraction. I know this sounds a bit high and mighty. I have absolute respect and admiration for Dyson's engineers and designers. They are one of the few companies producing quality, well-thought out design. But there is always room to improve. Lastly, the most important question of all: Does it suck? Yes, but in a good way ;-)8 comments

Hi there,
Thank you for your review.... Read more
Please be assured this machine does have a filtration system, it's just that the cyclone, the area at the top of the clear bin separates the particles down to such a fine size that this negates the need for a washable filter. There is also a non-accessible filter inside the ball area which does not require washing with HEPA filtration to capture the smallest possible particles and ensure the machine is expelling clean air. If you have any further questions or if you need assistance with this machine please email us at [email protected] and we will be more than happy to help. Best wishes, MiraThank you, Mira, for responding to my review and for clarifying the filter situation. still not convinced that these filters are doing an equal job to the models that require a user to clean a filter. Firstly the existence of filter models (that require user cleaning) does beg the question: If there was no need whatsoever for this type of machine, why would you keep selling models that have accessible/washable filters? Secondly, my nose is a dust-sensitive asthmatic nose (and attached respiratory system) that senses the air is not as dust-free as your other models. I admit this is not scientific and I don't have the resources to back it up either. So, this is why I invited Dyson to prove me wrong or right with some fancy figures from your no doubt extensive engineering research. I'm guessing that your engineers decided that the Ball was "good enough" to work without the manual-clean filter and therefore appeal to a certain sector of your market. I.e. the "we can't be bothered or we're not able to clean a filter"- sector of the market. I accept that there are people who would take a hit in dust extraction efficiency if it meant they didn't have to clean the vacuum (on top of vacuuming itself). If it doesn't risk your intellectual property, I'm sure readers would appreciate knowing the answer to this question. Regards, AndrewDyson Team ..Dyson

While the Dyson Cinetic Big Ball machines don't have filters to wash or replace, the machine as a whole is so efficient that it is able to achieve the same level of filtration as our machines that rely on filters. We have full confidence in our Cinetic Science, thus it makes up most of our full size barrel range. That being said, we do have entry level machines with filters to accommodate anyone considering a Dyson. Best wishes, ShanSimilar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
The bin doesn't work properly
I gave my older multi floor to my brother when I relocated interstate and purchased the new model multi floor. I loved the old model but I hate the new model. The dust bin doesn't shut properly and dirt and dust goes everywhere. The retracting bin doesn't close at all unless you press the red open button which is difficult to do. I was sent a replacement bin but still have the same problem. I want a refund! The new model multifloor is horrible! I hate it!

Dyson a good vacuum but cheap manufacturing is apparent when using

The liked bits:
I liked the idea of a vacuum that righted itself when tipped over. I liked the powerful suction and the way you could adjust this easily and quickly. I liked the way it would adjust from carpet to vinyl and tiles. I liked the look of it and how it feels to use.
The do not like bits:

Great Decision
Needed a new vacuum cleaner and was not sure of what to get - so many options. Settled on the Dyson Big Ball mainly as it doesn't fall over. Was a very very good decision, just LOVE IT. It has great suction on all types of floors. I have carpet, tiles and lino in my house. It is really easy to empty and filters super easy to keep clean. Good range of attachments.

I have the Dyson big ball multi floor, when I use it on the timber floors it is leaving a rubber streak everywhere.
It looks like scratches but when I rub it comes away. I can’t really walk around the whole house afterwards rubbing off all the marks. I’ve tried adjusting the suction.

Hi there,
Thank you for your query, we are happy to help.
We can confirm all Dyson Cinetic Big Ball machines are suitable for use on carpets and hard floors. The Musclehead of your machine will automatically adjust between the two surfaces. That being said, if you do find the head hard to push, we encourage you to move the red slider on the front of the head away from the "MAX" setting, this should make the machine easier to push.
I hope this helps, however if we can assist further, please email [email protected] and our Dyson Experts will be happy to assist further.
Best wishes,
