Why do you still have it? Exchange is for another one! No appliances should give you an electric shock thats not normal.

Since the wand is metal, it's just static electricity and has nothing to do with the machine. When you vacuum lots - especially in colder weather - the static builds up on the pipe and has no where to go.

I work in a vacuum repair store and we have a built-in with a metal nozzle and I always get shocked after sucking large clumps of dust. It slides up the pipe always touching - more surface area and therefore builds lots of static.

Dyson
Dyson ·

Hi Jemma,

Please be assured that this is occurring from a build up of static. Static build up occurs with friction, in this case it can be the friction of high speed dust against surfaces inside the machine, and friction from certain surfaces such as, as synthetic carpets or wearing socks of some fibre types while vacuuming.

Low humidity can increase the likelihood of static build up. It can be reduced by increasing the indoor humidity, having moisturized rather than dry hands when using the machine and changing the type of footwear or socks that are worn while vacuuming.

As this is specific to the environment it can be very difficult to replicate this effect in different locations, and so the above tips can help on the unlikely event that this re-occurs.

What is the difference between the Absolute plus and the Absolute?

Shanice
Shanice ·

The absolute plus comes with extra attachments, check out the dyson website to see which is best for you.

Hi Jez,

Thanks for your question.

The specifications of these machines is the same, however the V8 Absolute + comes with the following extra items to help with a variety of specialized cleaning tasks.:

Today I used my new Dyson V8 Absolute + for the first time (fully charged as per manufacturer instruction). I was quite disappointed as the "normal" suction is definitely not as strong as the V6 slim I've owned for almost a year and which costed me a third of the V8 Absolute +. I love Dyson products (I've never had a problem with one so far) and I had heard so many great things about the V8 Absolute + ...Now I'm quite puzzled...
Could the unit I purchased be faulty? Or is there anything I can do to improve it's suction/performance (obviously I tried the extra suction option as well but, as expected, the battery died very quickly).
Thanks in advance for your kind reply

I've not had any problems with either of my stick vacuums. Talk to a Dyson representative; it sounds like the battery might be dodgy. I'm sure they'll be very helpful.

Hi Sabrina,

Thank you for your query.

In the high power mode, the suction power of these machines is identical, however the V8's Direct Drive cleaner head has more power in the head to give better performance on carpets.

Could you please contact us at https://www.dyson.com.au/dyson-support and our Dyson Experts will be more than happy to assist you further.

Hi Sally,

The Soft Roller Head as pictured under "in the Box" here: http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick/v8-absolute-plus-227265-01 as supplied with the V8 Absolute + is the correct floor tool for hard floor surfaces such as marble.

Two related questions:

I just wanted to know when the soft head attachment can you vacuum backwards? Every time I pull the vacuum towards me the roller stops rolling.

Secondly, sometimes when pushing forward, the soft head attachment is not engaged. I have to let it turn off then re press the trigger button for the attachment to roll again?

Any help would be appreciated,

Thanks

Hi Phi,

Thanks for your question.

With the soft roller head and also on hard floor, vacuuming in a forward motion can be the best way of picking up the fine dust particles. However it should still continue spinning when the trigger is held, regardless of whether you are vacuuming forwards or backwards.

Start by checking the head for any blockages: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZT8M-yUmVg8

which attachment to use when cleaning car? i have the absolute set and have use the attachment for cars but it doesnt seem to be able to suck anything. lack of power. im not sure if im doing it right.
also, which attachment is best to use on hardfloor? i found that mine doesnt suck dust and hair well. it feels lack of power compare to my old dyson Dc44 which is really disappointing . can someone please help me.

Hi there,

The "In the Box" section on our website here: http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick/v8-absolute-plus-227265-01 has photos naming the parts and shows how each attachment can be used. The Soft Roller head is for hard floor.

The V8 machine should have stronger suction in Max power, and the Motorheads are more powerful than on the DC44 machine.

If your machine is making a pulsating sound, or has poor suction it's likely that there is a blockage of airflow somewhere in the machine. Please check over your machine for blockages as shown here,:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dpxRl17N03E

Does the V8 have an on/off switch?

Dyson
Dyson ·

Hi Emma,

Thank you for your query.

The V8 is turned on with a light-touch trigger so the machine is on when you need it and off when you don't. This allows the battery to be conserved to allow you to use the machine for more cleaning tasks in one charge.

Hi. I have just purchased a v8 absolute plus. I've charged it and noted that 2 blue light indicators are lit but the 3rd one keeps on blinking. There's no manual that indicates when it's fully charged . I also noticed that the operating manual doesn't indicate what the attachments are used for - eg whether for carpet or hard floor etc. My questions are how do I know it's fully charged and where can I get info on attachments?

MajorH
MajorH ·

Hi, the third light on mine keeps blinking while it's charged, and then all three lights switch off when it's fully charged. As for attachments, I noticed that about the manual as well and was also frustrated, but I went onto the Dyson site and looked up attachments available to buy for models that come with less and that told me what they were all called. Dyson customer service should be able to answer your questions on the attachments, though, and the charging if my answer doesn't help.

Tom ·

Dyson have a pretty good website. Use youtube to see how the attachments are used.
I think the light stops blinking when full charge is reached.

Dyson

Hi there,

Thanks for your question.

The three blue lights will turn off when the machine is fully charged. This will take 5 hours from flat.

Our getting started video will assist with what the various attachments are for: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9yK1N1a8i7A

The wide head with the soft texture is the soft roller head for hard floors, the wide head with the purple plastic cylinder brushbar is for both carpet and hard floor. Please scroll down to the "in the box" section here to see the names and functions for the accessories: http://shop.dyson.com.au/vacuum-cleaners/handstick/v8-absolute-plus-227265-01

The bin base lid has fallen off, how do you get this back on?

Dyson

Hi Tracy,

I am sorry to hear the bin base has fallen off your V8 Absolute.

This bin base has two plastic lugs that (with a small amount of pressure) should clip back into position.

If not, please give us a call on 1800 239 766 with your machine handy. Our Dyson Experts are available Monday - Friday 8 am - 8 pm and Saturday - Sunday 8:30 am - 4 pm EST.
