Finally, a vacuum cleaner that actually works.

This will be a bit of a story, but bear with me, because it is 100% true. Or otherwise scroll to the bottom for a really quick quantitative summary of my thoughts.

e (we have a rich, cream carpet) while my sister would mop the floors. This invincible behemoth of a vacuum cleaner lasted us until somewhere around 2016-2017 when we ran out of the paper bags (we kept buying refills, but by this time we figured it was time to get a new machine. The Electrolux actually still worked). We heard all about this fancy new brand, and everybody seemed to love it, so we figured we'd give it a try. And, you know, Dyson is kinda just one of those things you want to try. Assuming it'd last another 15-20 years, which in hindsight is a bit silly, we forked out somewhere around $800 - an investment - for a Dyson DC54. I remember we were so excited to try out the new machine, due in no small amount to its unique and intriguing design. At first it was ok, maybe a little less power than we were expecting, but now, after a few years, it hardly even picks up visible lint/bits and pieces and dust from the carpet. I also keep hearing a whistling sound around where the removable cartridge connects with the body of the machine like escaping wind, and the cleaner barely even left those triangular streaky patterns on the carpet that the old vacuum would. After cleaning 8 large rooms + staircase, the cartridge isn't even half-full. Before we bought our new Electrolux Pure C9, which I will talk about in a moment, I also found myself missing the old disposable bags, because the removable cartridge was difficult and finicky to open and clean, and I'd have to go at it with a brush. So about a week ago, we went out and bought a new Electrolux Pure C9 Animal, but I put the chore off for a week (who likes vacuuming, let's be real) so I finished vacuuming right before I wrote this review. I had to pause and empty the cartridge 4 times because there was so much dust the Dyson wasn't picking up (I vacuumed just a week after going through with the Dyson). There is so much to say. The cartridge empties instantly - it's easier to remove from the body, and it's also a simple shape so opening the bottom instantly empties all the dust into the bin, where the needlessly complicated Dyson design actually needed me to tap it a few times, have a brush handy, and also a really big bin so when it finally flopped open it could catch the dust (guess cartridges are good after all; it was just poor design from Dyson). And even then, the dust would still get onto my hands and pants because of how awkward the process was. I had to do it in the backyard every time, but now I can just empty it into the kitchen bin. The electrical cord is much longer so I can actually do the stairs in just ONE go, the vacuum itself is so much more powerful so that the cartridge fills up with dust amazingly quickly, the handheld part is easier to extend and collapse, and the handle for the machine is actually a proper handle. Sounds like an odd comment to make, but the handle for the Dyson doubled as the part that fixed onto the mouth of the cartridge, so every time I lifted it, I could hear so much air escaping. Whoever came up with that design needs to be fired. The best part, though, is that we paid half the price that we did for the Dyson. Come back in another 15 years, I guess, and I'll let you know what becomes of this new Electrolux. I honestly reckon that if my two purchases with Dyson are reflective of their quality of products, this hype going around is bound to flop. All they do is charge more for less. I feel scammed.
