Hi, just bought a 792D on Ebay and it was used so came with no manual. Anyone know where I can get one, online maybe? And are there you tube tutorials for this? I've never used one.

I cannot seem to get the overlock stitching right. I have tried to change all the tension dials but somehow the left and right needle threads always ride up to the edge of the wrong side of the fabric. Can you help please?

Hi,first mistake what happens is only threading read keenly the manual, when ur correctly threading there is hardly any prob all tensions can b at top ones 3-5 and bottom one 5-7 or common all at 5 .its hard to get correct threading Do it correct one its done never change tension n all, This machine is best ONLY for Overlocking, if u try other variety u will b scratching your heads lol. Try but at ur own risk of patience other than Overlocking

I agree- you really need to take the time to thread the machine right and use the correct tension. It can be fiddly and usually takes 15-45mins depending on your patients and skill level. If you have this correct then the stitching should should work fine. May I suggest that you go back to the manual and re-read the instructions. If it still doesn't work after following the instructions to the letter then I would take it back to the shop and get them to have a look at it for you. Maybe they can help you get it right if something is going wrong. I hope that helps. Kind regards and good luck!

Thank you Shalini and Mint Epihany,

I have re-threaded the machine step by step according to the manual but no luck. I took the sample of my stitching back to the shop where I bought it (Spotlight), nobody seemed to know what's wrong. One lady said it was definitely the tension of the left needle. However, I have already tried to change the tension from very loose to very tight, but it doesn't seem to change the look of the stitching. Still very loose.

The lady also mentioned to change the thread which I did. But no change.

I tried as well just to overlock with three needles, leaving the left needle out, but the same thing happened. I feel very frustrated, I have so many projects to do and I can't get the overlocking done.

I used to have another overlocker Semco 750D and it seemed to be fine with all kinds of different threads and it was not difficult to change the tension.

Is there any other suggestions, please?

Thank you so much,
PB

Did you keep a damaged needle? You can take those to the shop and use them as a reference. Otherwise, write down the model number and name of the machine and take that with you to show a customer service person who can point you in the right direction. :-)

I'm not sure why your needless are snapping but it may be because something isn't placed correctly. You should twist the knob on the right side to move the needle up and down slowly and see exactly where it gets caught. That may help find the solution otherwise just ask the place you bought it from.
And for the needle I couldn't find it either but I did find it in quilting instead of overlock. It's ok to get that one since I asked and then tested it at home.
Hope this helps :)

No that's definitely not normal. I would take it back and inform whoever you bought it from that you have returned a faulty item and hopefully they will give you another without a problem.

I agree- that should not be happening. Take it back, it will be covered by the warranty.

Yes thanks for answering I did take it back and they eventually sent it off to fix, what happened was, I bought 2 machines from spotlight, a brother simplicity and this Lena overlocker.I first had to take the brother back after 2 uses and left the machine to be sent away.Turns out it was just a faulty foot wich they replaced. Then this happened to my overlocker so I've continually got one machine without the other. So annoyed!

I've been trying to figure out how to do a rolled hem and have been unsuccessful. Can someone please explain to me how to do it?

If you look in your manual on page 13. It shows you how to deactivate the cutting knife to change the needle plate from setting 'S' to setting 'R'. Once you have done this you can go to page 31 in your manual it shows you which dials you need to change for rolled hem. So stitch length needs to be set to 'R', Differential Feed Ratio needs to be set to '1.0', the needle plate to 'R' (as I mentioned earlier). Then remove your left needle thread, this is not needed. Then you need to change the tension for the right needle to 4, the upper looper tension to 3, and lower looper tension to 7.

Hope this helps. I know when I tried to do it the thing I forgot was to change the needle plate!

Thank you!! This is perfect I've got it now. Only thing is i tired it without the left needle but it still seemed to need it. So i tried it without the right needle instead and it was better but still a little loose, it needed the extra stitch in the middle. But otherwise if i leave them both in it turns out perfect.

Thank you :)

Trial and error is the key with this machine unfortunately. I had trouble after my first re thread- I couldn't get the tension right, so I started at a basic setting of 6 on all dials- from the manual, you can then see which thread is the culprit and zone in on tensioning that particular thread. Make sure all threads are running under the foot before you start overlocking. Always sew a test strip. Pull all four lines out as they sew then sew a little test on the fabric. If it's still not how you want it- go back to the book and keep trying the different tensions on the threads that are giving you trouble. I am self taught at this so I hope that makes sense and helps! Xo

How do you make the stitch thinner?

1 answer

Adjust the tension on the maroon and green dials to about 6.5-7 and maybe a little tighter on the orange and blue dials. Use the dials on the side to adjust the rest; so I would use a 1 on the top dial and 1 to 1.5 on the lower dial for a thin stitch. This does take some trial and error depending on what fabric you are using and wether you are using the R (rolled) hem or the S(selvage) setting. The R setting should always have the top side dial on R and the bottom always 0.5 for this setting. I am self taught so I hope that helps. :-)
