Memory Foam Mattress

I have been using a new zealand made sleep right visco elastic memory foam mattress for the last 5 years, whilst comfortable it heats up to unbearable levels in the summer time. Does the cool sleep air flow system in the Ergo Flex really make that much of a difference in reducing over all heat generation?

I bought mine in winter so I'm yet to find out if the mattress is hot during hot nights. It's spring here in Sydney, last few nights have been quite warm and I haven't noticed any heat to be honest.

I purchased mine in winter, I am hoping it will be okay as I usually sleep with a light blanket in summer. I am a bit of a cold frog! Although we have had a few nights that have been warm already and didn't notice any extra heat.

Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi David, thank you for your question. Although we believe we have one of, if not, the coolest memory foam on the market, you will find all memory foam mattresses warmer to sleep on than traditional inner spring constructed mattresses - as the memory foam contours around you to provide the support and pressure relieving qualities they are known for, this also means that more of you is in direct contact with the mattress, therefore making you feel more insulated, and slightly warmer. Please do contact us should you wish to discuss further. Kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

Can anyone recommend what kind of bedsheet should I get - especially for summer weather?

Hi Bella, thank you for your question. We would recommend 100% pure cotton sheets with a thread count of no more than 450. Please let us know if we can help further, kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

I have found that stretchy sheets are best on memory foam mattresses, so nave bought jersey sheets. It Fits makes 100% cotton jersey sheets that are wonderful. Adairs also sell jersey sheets, but theirs are cotton/polyester.

Hi Bella
It's just turned Spring so summer is 3 months away. I couldn't comment until then, but I can tell you that the mattress was no warmer during winter than other mattresses so I'm doubting whether it will be hotter during summer.

After reading the reviews, I am seriously considering purchasing one of these. I rang the ErgoFlex guys about my question about the refund policy (7 days, return at your own cost for those wondering - my area is approx $250 in Ipswich QLD for those wondering), but I have a question for users - How well does this mattress 'respond'? - i.e. if you change position do you feel a noticeable lag between your old position and new one?

It is probably going to be hard to make the leap to an online-only purchase, but the salesman on the other side was quite helpful in recommending trying a Temupur mattress (as their website compares them to) - the firmness of this being between the Tempur Original and the Tempur Cloud. Anyway any help would be appreciated, Thanks!

they are definately different to tempur. The tempur you do take longer to sink into and when you roll again there is a slight delay to get comfy again well I found in shop. With ergoflex I would say slightly more give initially and responsive when you move you get into new position immediately. still is a med firm mattress though even given the sink factor..i had only firm mattresses due to back pain but have had much less pain as the ergo moulds better to where the pressure should be and evenly which a spring mattress cant do. alot gentler on the body when you are sore and need to roll over its still very easy to do. You don't sink in more than just enough to ease pressure points ie shoulder or hip if side sleeper.

Roxy
Roxy

The Tempur was the first memory foam mattress I tried. It was supremely comfortable UNTIL I tried to move. I have an injured back and ligament problems on one side, and I found it almost impossible to get out of the 'hole' in the Tempur, my partner had to help me move. With the Ergoflex, the underneath support is firm and you don't sink down so much and there is no discernible lag when moving. Because of the injuries I find a sheepskin on top of the Ergoflex suits me best, and I never wake up from trying to turn over, or from discomfort.

Jenna
Jenna

There's no real 'lag' as such. It happens immediately I feel. I sleep on my back and sides most of the time, and I really don't notice the mattress transitioning between these positions. Buying online always comes with risks (I've been burned many times), but this is one of those occasions I'm happy I did. I did try Tempur a while back in the stores, but I think it's similar - besides, everything always feels different in the store. It was the price difference at the end of the day that sold it for us.

Memory Foam Mattress

My wife and I visited a store recently and undertook a 'sleep test' which produces a report identifying the ideal level of firmness for a matress for our body weight etc. It was recommended that we purchase a medium firmness matress. We are very keen on the Ergo Flex but are concerned that the medium/firm rating will be too firm for my wife. Is this rating comparable to that of an innerspring matress or is there a difference with memory foam matresses?

I find the memory foam feels completely different to spring mattresses. My hips sinks in to the memory foam, but the mattress moulds around me, so there is still total support at my waist, whereas the spring mattresses form more of a slope, leaving a lack of support. It's really hard to explain! Go lie for a while on the original tempur mattresses (not the fancy new softer more expensive ones) to get a feel for the difference. Now all spring mattresses feel too unsupportive/hard to me!

I'm interested in purchasing a king size mattress but would like to know if the Ergoflex memory foam mattresses supplied to Australia are made without CFC, PBDE, formaldehyde or other harmful VOCs, either in the foam or during the manufacturing process? It was mentioned previously on this forum that the smell from these mattresses is completely harmless, but there is no information or safety data on the website about this. Could you please provide further information?

Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi Jane, thank you for your question. We can assure you that our mattresses do not contain Formaldehyde or CFCs, neither do they contain PDBE's, Phthalates, Benzene, or other harmful VOCs. Although you may find a distinct odour coming from your new mattress it is entirely safe, normal, and to be expected. Please contact us via email at [email protected] or by telephone on 1300 169 273 should you wish to discuss in more detail. Kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

Hi
I am wondering if you can offer me any tips? We purchased an ergoflex mattress just under 1 month ago and I am now experiencing a sore neck every morning. My husband is sleeping well. I am a small frame person under 50kg and find the mattress extremely firm. I can also still smell the odour from the mattress. I kept hoping that it was just a matter of getting used to the new mattress but after 1 month I am concerned that it is not going to improve.

Please could you contact us at [email protected] with your order number or call us on 1300 169 273 and we will contact you straight back. Due to the significant differences between a traditional mattress and a memory foam it’s not unusual for many to take time to adjust to a new way of sleeping. Indeed your current pillow, and even your bed base could all being playing a part in your experience. Regarding the smell, a small number of customers do experience a small in the initial weeks, it’s completely harmless and we have many tips on how to eradicate this so please do get in touch. Does the Ergoflex memory foam mattress need to be flipped or rotated at all?

1 answer
Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi Lion, thank you for your question. Standard sprung mattresses need to be turned to prevent and delay the sagging that occurs through time. Like all memory foam mattresses, Ergoflex memory foam mattresses are manufactured to be laid one side up only, to achieve the body-moulding performance for which they are designed. We recommend rotating your mattress 180 degrees every 3-6 months.
Kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

I noticed someone said you cannot use an electric blanket with this mattress - is this you DEFINATELY cannot? why not? I am a very cold sleeper as is my partner and i couldn't imagine not being able to sleep with an electric blanket

Thanks

1 answer
Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Dear Vik, thank you for enquiry. Ergoflex memory foam mattresses are temperature sensitive, meaning that the heat from an electric blanket could deform the visco-elastic foam and damage the body-moulding performance. You will find the mattress warms much quicker than a traditional mattress often removing the need for an electric blanket. Kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

Hi Brendan,
The mattress isn't that "spongy " that her face would get lost in it, it is quite firm. Of course, it is better that she has a demonstration first.

Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi Brendan, thank you for your enquiry. Your wife’s ability to breathe will not be affected by sleeping on her stomach, (particularly if using a pillow also) however memory foam mattresses are more suited to those that sleep on their side or back. Hey anyone,
how comfortable are these mattresses for overweight and stomach sleepers? I have hip and lower back pain from my innerspring at the moment and contemplating this mattress

I'm not sure about overweight or stomach because I'm neither, I would imagine you would need something soft though and they are fairly firm. I also find it very hot to sleep on on warm nights. We have since purchased a dunlopillow coolmax mattress protector, it helps a bit but is still not good enough.

TriFit
TriFit

Though I'm not overweight (I train a lot though BMI says otherwise), I used to be a stomach sleeper till I got hold of Ergoflex's memory foam mattress. Over time, because the memory foam mattress contours to your body, I've found I get a much better sleep on my back. It'll be a change for you I'm sure, but a better experience than the innerspring. Can I use my old King Size bed base (with springs) for Ergo Flex?

1 answer
Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi, thank you for your enquiry. Yes our mattresses can be safely used with all types of bed bases, even adjustable electrics, ensembles, divans or bases with springs. We would however advise that it will perform better on a stable platform such as a slatted bed base. If you do use your existing base then please make sure that no springs protrude from the top of the base into the mattress itself and that you air the mattress frequently. Kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

I do lots of camping and need a new mattress. I am considering a memory foam mattress but am concerned with the potential for moisture collection under the mattress. The surface the mattress would be layed on is a a medium density fibreboard (MDF). Your advice would be appreciated?

1 answer
Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi, thank you for your enquiry. We would not recommend using a memory foam mattress for outdoor use because of the reason you outlined. Memory foam mattresses perform much better on a bed base, and in a well-ventilated and moisture free room. If you do decide to purchase one then you could add old towels or similar to lie between the mattress and the wood to protect the mattress and check the underside regularly to see whether there is any evidence of a build-up in condensation. You could also add a number of holes to the board itself for air circulation. Kind regards, Ergoflex Australia.

When the mattress first comes out of the packaging it would be easy to set it up upside down however we were very careful to make sure it is right way up. The underside is much firmer than the top.

I think its a personal thing, and as much as I wanted to love it, I just cannot sleep comfortably on it.

Good news is that Matt has located a buyer in Perth so I'll only have to pay $129 for delivery and apparently the rest will be refunded.

I found the ergoflex mattress to be firmer than the Cloud 22, probably more like the Cloud 19. Given we're in summer I think this is as soft as it's going to get. If money was no object I would have bought the Cloud 22, however for a third of the price or less I made a compromise.

It has been up to 36 degrees here in the last few weeks and we have been perfectly comfortable with just a sheet for covering. It may not be suitable if you usually feel too hot sleeping since it is just a little warmer than our previous standard type mattress but we find this is offset by being more comfortable.

Ergoflex
Matthew W.Ergoflex

Hi, thank you for your enquiry. You will find all memory foam mattresses warmer to sleep on than traditional inner spring mattresses - as the memory foam contours around you to provide the support & pressure relieving qualities they are known for, this also means that more of you is in direct contact with the mattress, making you feel more insulated, and slightly warmer. You may have read that some find our mattress warmer, whereas others do not. This is due to the fact we are all different shapes, weights, and sizes, and have different preferences.
