Hi Elizabeth, no, the Hip Seat must be used with the carrier at all times. You can use the carrier as a Hip Seat only but the seat must be used when using it as a complete carrier.

Hi Bruna, Thanks for considering an Ergobaby carrier for you and your baby. The Hip Seat is most definitely a great choice. The Hip Seat is a versatile carrier which is designed to take the weight of you as you carry your baby - especially as baby grows. Possibly the best thing about the Hip Seat is that it is a carrier which you will use up to and during the toddler years. You will find the cushion especially handy once your toddler hits the phase of wanting to be up on your hip, then down walking, then up, then down again....the constant change of mind means that the design of the Hip Seat will allow you to get through that phase with ease.

In regard to using the carrier now, so long as your baby is over 5.5kg it is a suitable option for you. However, we do suggest that you ensure bub is kept in the inward facing position until they are at least 5 months of age. Once bub has reached 5 months of age and has good, strong head and neck control you are able to face baby out. We have many videos available on our website which can show you the features of the Hip Seat in detail. We would also encourage you, where possible, to go into one of our authorised stockists with your bub and try the carrier on so you can be certain that carrier feels right for you. This way you can also weigh it up against the other Ergobaby carrier choices so that you be sure you are purchasing the one that is right for you. We hope that this helps make your decision. Thanks again for choosing Ergobaby!

Hi Shalene, Thankyou for choosing the Ergobaby Hip Seat carrier. It's a fantastic product and we hope you enjoy using it. In regard to baby facing outward, we don't recommend using the carrier with bub in this position until they are at least 5 months of age. We hope this helps.

Hi Atikah

Thank you for your interest in our Ergobaby Carriers. The carriers you are looking to choose between both offer fantastic features so either one will become invaluable to you. Our recommendation would be to try both carriers on in one of our authorised retailers if you are able to. This will give you an idea of which carrier feels the most comfortable to you and will also allow you to gain a better understanding of which one will suit your needs best. Both are good options, however there are differences between the two which may make or break your decision. Below are the 3 main points of difference to consider.

The first thing to consider when choosing between the two is what age are you looking to start using the carrier from. This may provide you with your answer straight up! The 360 is a great option if you would like to use the carrier from birth (with an infant insert from newborn to 4-5 months of age). You are unable to use the Hip Seat Carrier with a newborn - bub must be at least 5.5kgs.

The second thing to consider would be that the two carriers have different maximum weight capacities. You are able to use the 360 up until bub is 15kgs whereas the Hip Seat has a higher weight limit which is up to 20kgs.

Thirdly, in regard to once your baby is older, there is a notable difference between the two carriers. The Hip Seat is a brilliant carrier to have once your baby hits the stage of learning to crawl and walk. Any parent of a baby passing the physical milestones of learning to crawl and walk will be familiar with that transitional phase when they want “up” one minute and “down” the next. The freedom of movement offered by the Hip Seat is perfect for older babies as they become more mobile and start exploring. The 360 doesn't allow you to move through this stage as easily as you would need to remove the carrier completely to allow bub to be up then down. You also don't have the option of the actual hip seat to provide support.

I hope that these points will assist you in making your decision. Either option will be a great choice!
