Beware of lint residue
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)I've owned the machine 6 months, it works just fine, no troubles with tangles or anything but it leaves LINT superfine over everything. I have gone back to retailer and manufacturer and received a free lint trap as a 'goodwill gesture', in my opinion it should come with the machine, They've obviously figured out it has a problem.
Disappointing
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)I purchased this machine only 2 1/2 years ago and now it won't wash. Rang Fisher & Paykel and they say I need to get someone out to look at it, but they have a call out fee of $130.00. So, I have to pay $130 just for them to come out and then anything they charge per hour or parts on top. We're pretty sure it is the control panel, which if that needs replacing, is another $160 on top....So, I am going to buy a new machine....but DEFINITELY NOT buying another Fisher & Paykel. Unfortunately from now on I will always choose an alternative bran
... Read mored then Fisher and Paykel considering they have proven to be unreliable as you would think a "top of the range" washing machine, at time of purchase, would last longer then 2 1/2 years.....Very Disappointing!!!.F&P are better most..
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)I Agree, the electronics' in most machines are a issue, but if turn them at the wall when you finish and save power too The units don't fail
... They last, and a surge protector is a must .like on your TVs, computers. .There is no such think as a off button any more.......
Don't bother wasting your money
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)This machine is absolute rubbish. It NEVER washes my clothes properly. Every wash items come out worse than when they went in. I always have to spin twice due to clothes still being soaking wet on a regular cycle. This machine will drive you insane i would recommend not wasting your money

Very good overall
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Very quiet when new, took about a week for the spin cycle to get noisy, leaves a fine layer of lint on my fluoro work shirts when washed with dark socks to be expected, easy to use, fast on normal cycle, used very frequently our washing machine rarely gets a rest, would recommend it is a good machine, excellent price from the good guy's.
Extremely dissatified with this machine!!!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)After much research we were thrilled to finally be purchasing the F&P with its clean, sleek design & fabulous 8kg tub. Our other machine was on its last legs...it had done it time and done it well but was a bit too small for our needs, we wanted a larger washer.
Initially it worked like a dream for about 6 months & then to my distain I discovered some suspicious threads hooked or caught up on what I can only describe as a small metal/plastic notch where the metal side of the tub meets the basin of the tub! Let me tell you I was not impressed
Over 2 years now and no problems.
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)First thing - It actually washes clothes well and has very easy to use controls. I would have given it 5 stars if not for a couple of minor issues. The agitator action is a little noisy and does splash water about but only on very heavy full loads. Fill it to the top with bath / beach towels and bed linen it works quietly but with heavy work overalls that circulate more to the bottom it splashes about. All the button selections for various wash cycles enables any number of washing requirements but I do like the Favourite selection method but if
... Read more you are feeling lazy, make you cycle selection the press Auto fill, works just as well. The wash cycle can be fast forwarded (press double arrow to right of Spin on top cycle indicator) or stopped at any stage (if you need to throw more clothes in) by pressing the Pause button, change you selections, then press again and off it goes. Dead easy. The spin cycle is very good and quiet, as long as the machine is levelled correctly (again easy to check and do) - great for spinning out quilts. My old Simpson Genesis 5.5kg (died after 27 years - R.I.P. nobody makes then that good anymore) albeit after a few minor fixes, but it used to nearly launch itself out the laundry door on fast spin. I do hand wash my quilts - thick quality queen size - too large to wash even for this large machine but smaller ones would be OK to wash. Don't believe the sales people - every washing machine needs a good lint filter, specially if you have pet hair to deal with. I made one with a piece of close fitting PVC pipe and cut the foot of a panyhose and stuffed it down the throat of the agitator - works great. F&P did send me one later after I contacted them about the issue. The F&P SmartWash 8kg washing machine - would recommend it highly. Ask me for an update in another 12 months. Washes clothes well - very easy to use controls noisy / splashing agitator action. No lint filter. What's all the fuss about!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)We needed a new washing machine and read heaps of reviews. Firstly put off by bad reviews about the Fisher Paykal but heard good comments as well. We bought an 8.5 kg wash smart and have had absolutely no issues with lint, marked clothes etc. It operates quietly and is Highly recommended.
dont waste your money
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)my last Fisher and Paykel top loader had the drum turn sideways on me somehow, now this 8kg machine has been a nightmare since day one. i have to physically watch every load to ensure it stays in balance and not destroy itself. after research ill have to spend $120 and waste my saturday repairing a machine thats JUST 2yrs old. disgraceful.

Absolute nightmare....I hate it
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Leaves lint all over everything and continuously leaves dirt and scum all over my washing even after I have put washing machine cleaners, bleach through it. I always wash in hot water but still the same problem. I regret buying this machine and would refund it in a heart beat.
Hot and Warm Water Wash
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)My mum has this washing machine which I have been using since my Simpson of 26 years blew up last week. She lives in the granny flat with us so been easy to use hers while I buy another one. She has been very happy with it and so have I, so have ordered the 10kg version from Appliances Online which will arrive soon. No problems whatsoever. Regarding the hot/warm wash - you can select hot, warm or cold wash which works exactly as you have selected but make sure you turn both your taps on. Don't know why others have said that you can only use "Allergy" for hot water, as ours works on all wash selections. Great machine.
Do not buy this machine. The stainless steel bowl rusts
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)After having two F&P top loaders previously I was very happy with their quality and performance, and so when it came time to replace the last one after twelve years of faithful service I opted to purchase another. That was a big mistake. What I was not aware of at that time is that F&P are no longer produced in New Zealand but have shifted their operations to Indonesia, obviously in the interests of the making more $$ for shareholders. It appears that their quality has also seriously declined with this move. I purchased this machine just over a
... Read more week ago. Within three days it was leaving brown stains on clothes, and after it completely ruined most of my husband's work shirts in one load I found that there was rust staining around the bottom of the stainless steel bowl (where it meets the plastic base). I should have read the reviews on this site before making this purchase as it could have saved me the headache (and expense) that this machine has been. There are other people here who have had exactly the same experience which I have had. I have been fortunate not to have had to endure the process of dealing with F&P customer care that many others here have complained about. I purchased this machine from the Good Guys and after showing them photos of this disaster they immediately agreed to refund the purchase price so that I can purchase another brand of machine. That's right, I won't be purchasing F&P again. My confidence in their product went from a 10 to a 0 in just one week. My challenge now is to find a good machine. There are so many negative reviews on most (obviously a bad experience is a big motivator to submit a review). Excellent Choice after back breaking work researching reviews
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)After reading through reviews on a number of sites I found this site has the best reviews - even though their were a few negative reviews on this particular model, I kept going back to the POSITIVE reviews and was convinced enough to take the plunge. 6 weeks later and I am pleased to report a 9/10 - the LINT factor which dominated the NEGATIVE reviews is beyond me - I decided to experiment with a couple of loads of blankets and towels, followed by a hot water wash with no suds and no garments just hot water, a day later - a load of darker colou
... Read morered cotton garments to see how much lint from the blankets ended up on the garments - I can report there was in fact ZERO LINT on any of the black tee shirts, slips, jeans etc. As far as the machine goes - reading and following the manual is not rocket science - ensure the machine is sitting square and level. Some other negative comments were how noisy it was - I have nothing but praise for this model, Hope this helps you decide it has great warranty.Fantastic washing machine that I control!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Brilliant wash, You can shorten any of the washes if you need too. Has a spin cycle. beeps 5 times when finished and turns off. easy to use, nice and quite. Best machine so far. Previously have owned simpson washing machines, But Fisher and Paykel are by far a lot more advanced.
Excellent washing machine after so many others tried
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Bought this as a replacement for our crap Samsung washing machine, which broke down for the 6th time in 18 months. Have now had the fisher & Paykel for a month and so far excellent. It may not have the best water saving or energy rating, but it washes perfectly without needing to worry about it. The agitator is a must have, as it cleans better, and you don't end up with those weird soap sud marks or lint after each load. Seriously. No lint problems for me at all. Like with all washing machines, too much use of fabric softeners and cold wash wil
... Read morel always create this problem. So every 5 cycles u should use warm cycles to prevent build up of soap scum and lint. And for me, fabric softeners don't seem to do jack anyway so I don't use them anymore. The people complaining about your underwear or bras falling apart, then go get yourself a lingerie bag...that's what they're there for you bananas! All those people complaining about having to start a whole cycle again if they press pause just cos they forgot to add a couple of things...well don't press pause and just open the lid and throw in items as it goes along. The auto sensing water level thingy is brilliant. Other machines seem to have level options but never actually seem to work. This one works great and seems to have the right amount of water for the wash. Highly recommend. Don't ever get a Samsung. Great TVs. Crap at everything else.Worst ever for us - wish we bought the other one every day!!!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)LINT- this machine has no means of separating lint and other debris from the wash, it ends up all over the finished items and is very difficult to remove. Do not wash your undies in it either, it destroys them by stretching the elastic to death, reducing the lifespan to around a month for a decent brand. We have had enough, not even one year old and we are dumping it. DO NOT BUY THIS JUNK if you value your sanity!!!
Bad lint problem and issues just after 2 years
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)We purchased this machine after our last machine died (it worked for 10 years well - Samsung). We purchased it on the 8/11/2012 and as of the 06/01/2015 it has stopped working.
Overall it washes well but I do need to pre stain a lot with my baby and now toddler who gets food and dirt everywhere. A lot of the clothes still come out stained. There is a huge lint problem and I need to use a lint remover regularly to clean my clothes which is a big pain. Some clothes also come out damaged from the agitator. Our last machine did not have
... Read morean agitator and I think the next machine we get it will also be without an agitator. The agitator takes up a lot of space in the machine, so it is very hard to wash light blankets in there - for my toddler. Just 2 days ago it stopped at the rinse cycle while washing towels. I have had to take out the towels while there is still water in the drum. I am assuming that I will need to empty it out by hand (I have my sons $1 water pump which will work well lol). Luckily I purchased extended warranty through The Good Guys, but I will have to see if the problem is covered, how long they take to respond and how much out of pocket I will be. I have just put the call in today. and I will update what happens soon. I am happy with the touch buttons to work the machine and the options available. I also like being able to add cloths to the machine after it has already started as the lid locks on spin cycle only. It also beeps 3 times to let you know it has finished. Overall, I would not recommend this machine to a friend.Died too soon - and lint problem...
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Our second F&P washer. Worked well and seemed strong, but had the dreaded lint problem as mentioned by so many others. Then about a fortnight ago just stopped dead, as if the plug had been pulled from the wall. Less than 4 years old. Not good enough, F&P. Independent repair man tried a new control panel, then found it was actually the pump that had failed, which apparently then burns out the panel. Would have been 4- 5 hundred $ to repair, so...
Bought a new F&P front loader the other day. Guess what?... Works great but lint everywhere, even on the first wash!!! It's going back, and will be replaced by a Simpson or something similar. No more F&P for us. (Big F&P fridge has also been a nightmare!)
I absolutely love this machine!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)After 10 faithful years my Fisher and Paykel washing machine stopped working. Not once did I have a service call for this machine. After a momentary lapse in concentration I bought a Bosch Front Loader. OMG what a horrible machine! I HATED it! I sold it after 6 months and went back to buy a Fisher and Paykel top loader. Having read the reviews on this site I was a bit hesitant but I cannot fault this machine at all. It is so quiet. I have no problems at all. Very Very happy!
Good wholsome washing machine
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Bought the Fisher Paykel machine after owning a Kleen Maid for 18 years. Could not justify the price this time around on the Kleen Maid, it's like buying a Ferrari. The Fisher and Paykel is a fair price and appears to wash the clothes well and spins them very dry. It's very quiet and smooth and does the job well.
Lint issue Fisher Paykel
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)This machine is driving me insane. It does not wash the clothes without leaving lint over everything. All my previous machines never had this issue. I have tried everything so far but no fix. F& P do not want to know about the issue and no reply.
This machine is clearly not fit for purpose. A recall or fix should be provided so nothing do not buy this machine it will not wash your clothes properly
Well a few months down the track and thanks to the lint filter no issues. Fisher Paykel should include this in the washing machine purchase. I am pull out loads of lint every few days when I wash.
I have tried to work with the Fisher Paykel for nearly a year and after trying another machine I am now convinced this machine is a dud. With the lint filter Fisher Paykel sent me after complaining it

Not some added extra Fisher Paykel have sent me to stop me complaining. Tried another brand and wow I was surprised how much different the results were. The upshot is the "automatic lint removal system" on the Fisher Paykel fails and I suffer with lint all over my cloths. This is not an isolated problem so unless I can get a fix its out. I have given it 12 monthsWorst washing machine ever, very upset.
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)We spent almost $700 on this washing machine and I am very upset and annoyed we wasted so much money.
We have had it for 5 weeks now. I have put up with everything coming out with lint all over it, this happens no matter what I wash. I have also put up with it not washing very effectively, it does not get any of the marks out of my baby's bibs and towels. My last machine was a front loader and it washed very well even at 9 years old, it washed the cloth nappies completely. I can't get the stains out of the cloth nappies in this machine no mat
Good for heavily soiled clothes but destroys your clothes and stains your whites.
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)This replaced our old Simpson washing machine that we had problem free for about 11 years. At first, we thought it was a great replacement as our first week's worth of laundry required the "Heavy Duty" wash cycle. However, we soon realised that everything gets the heavy duty treatment, regardless of the wash cycle selected. The agitators destroy anything with buttons, capulets, cinches, toggles, any clothes fastener larger than a small button and often tangles anything longer than a short sleeve! We've had to put most of our clothes in deli
... Read morecates bags so that this machine doesn't destroy of mis-shape things. Bagging our clothes helped to maintain their shape but it is time consuming having to pack and unpack almost each item of clothing in a delicates bag. Unfortunately, there's not much we can do but hope for the best that the gentle wash cycle doesn't completely wreck our waffle blankets (half of them have been destroyed by the agitators) and our washable wool quilts (which often come out of the wash with all the wool shifted to one side...arghhh!). The worst thing was after only about 10 or 11 months after purchasing this machine, the drum started rusting and we first noticed it on all our white bed sheets, towels and work shirts. I rang Fisher & Paykel but it was clear from my first phone call that they weren't interested in helping. It also often releases the lint and gunk buildup from one wash into the next so the next load of washing comes out dirtier than before you washed it. We bought this because we were happy with our F&P fridge but after our experience, WE WILL NEVER AGAIN BUY ANY FISHER&PAYKEL PRODUCT! The machine still works but after only 2.5 years, we are looking for a Miele or Bosch replacement. No problems
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Just bought Fisher & Paykel 8 Kg washing machine, could not be happier. After reading all the negative reviews I was unsure how it would perform. But have done several loads of washing with no problems. I also took out the extended warranty to be on the safe side though, fingers crossed
ease of use
Never ever again!!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Had a top loader Hitachi for 18 years with no problems. Wish Hitachi still made washing machines!! F & P Wash Smart leaves LINT over everything, despite carefully separating the laundry. The lint issue means you have to check all clothing after washing. Splashes water and becomes unbalanced very easily. Also the agitator is very rough on clothing. Wouldn't buy again.
Has anyone overcome this lint problem, or had dealings with F&P about it?
See above, and it arrived dented ($60 damage allowance)
It's a good machine besides the lint
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)I found the machine washes clothes great. On auto fill it tends to use more water than required. But my biggest problem is the lint. I have lint on everything. I have ruined a lot of clothes because of this. I changed washing powder and used fabric softener but nothing worked. Fisher and Paykel were not very helpful and didn't believe me. After reading other reviews I see many people have the same problem with lint in their machine. This is the only big fault I would have with the machine the lint. I have to use a lint brush after every wash very annoying.
Fast and washes clothes well.
Lint on clothes.
OK at the beginning
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)We purchased this top loader after owning a front loader; has been great to throw in a tea towel as an after thought, thought it not having a lint filter was a good thing, and on most washes it is, but every now and then you leave a tissue in the pocket & the whole wash needs another washing. LOVE the timer feature but the worst, worst, worst feature of this machine is how easily is goes unbalanced. Towels and blankets and jeans and anything that soaks any water & weighs a bit throws this machine off... I can't set the beloved energy saving timer because the beeping of off-balance wakes the house.
Timer feature
Too easily stops cycle when off balance
Don't do it
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)I have an ongoing problem with lint on my clothes, which I think is because there is no way to clean the lint from the filter in this machine. It is all over my darks even though I am religious about separating my clothes, never wash towels with clothes etc. Fisher & Paykel were very unhelpful and patronising, giving me advice about separating my clothes properly. So disappointing. Clothes also come out as though they have been through a wringer, and require LOTS of ironing, despite attempting to smooth them out when I hang them to dry.
Large size drum.
Fluffy clothes, very wrinkled clothes.
Agree about the Lint issue - but easy to solve that problem. There are any number of wash cycle and spin speeds to choose. Experiment. My good quality long sleeve 100% cotton shirts - hand wash cycle
... Read moreand slowest spin - hang them up (still a bit damp) with 3 pegs from the collar - I only need to touch iron the collars and cuffs occasionally. Experiment. As a last resort - read the manual. Thanks Rick, I have read the manual but have found nothing to help with the lint issue. Thank you for your comment.
An update to this review. Fisher and Paykel finally agreed to pay for a technician to come out to do a full report and wanted him to call them while he was here on site. He came while I was out of tow
... Read moren and my husband dealt with him. He said the machine was out of warranty (we knew that) and charged $135 to "fix" it. No report was done and he didn't contact F&P from here. He said we used too much detergent and washed with cold water, both ridiculous. I rang F&P regarding the charge and they promised to refund it - to date they have not done so 3 weeks later. After them saying they would follow up as the technician was completely in the wrong I have heard nothing.Great washing machine
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Our small 5.5kg Fisher and Paykel top loader gave it up on the weekend after 14 years, and I had to rush around and get a new one. Was tempted by the 10kg Washsmart, but thought the 8kg was the best value. I phoned a number of washing machine repairers for their advice on top loaders and all of them strongly favoured F&P. Also said to steer clear of LCD screens and half or no agitators. So, the one I went with has a full agitator, and no LCD. Has been perfect. Is very quiet, washing clothes perfectly, no lint, no tangling of clothes. Purchased
... Read morea full five year replacement warrantly for $90 from Joyce Mayne (which i think is a bargain). Paid $670 for the machine. Only think that went wrong is I tried my old machine one more time when I was pulling it out and she fired back into life and is now working fine!!! Have nothing but good things to say about the wash smart series. UPDATE: Its now 3 months later and i've not had problem. Great washing machine. Cost, speed, warranty, reliable, and it works! maybe they could make the control panel look nicer.Still going strong!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)I left a very positive review on this machine in Mar 2012 after owning it for one month. I would now like to add that coming up to two years now, I still cannot fault this machine. Still doing approx. 10 loads a week, using mostly the easy iron, regular & sometimes handwash settings. It's quick & washes beautifully. I love it!
Quick, efficient, reliable....love it
Happy user
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Purchased this machine 8 months ago and couldn't be happier, this machine has never missed a beat. I would recommend the extended 5 year warranty, only because the dryer broke and we got a new replacement in 3 weeks. It works quietly and efficiently and I use the full range of washing modes frequently
reliable
No good!
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Had 10 years of excellent service from previous version of this F&P washing machine. Bought this one new 6 mths ago and have had nothing but trouble - F&P have had to replace machine 3 times! Can only conclude they're using inferior materials to cut costs. Loud noise when spin-dry operate, continual lint in clothes.
Not much - nothing like previous version of this model.
Loud noise in spin dry operation, lid did not fit bottom of unit and made loud cracking sound when opening it, then lint all over clothes, even when I complained and got a bag filter to insert in agitator pole.
Brilliant washing machine
WashSmart WA80T65GW1 (8kg)Just want to rave about and review my new Fisher and Paykel washing machine that I've had now for a couple of months. I had a Whirlpool 5.5K for the last 10+ years and felt it was time to upgrade to a larger machine, so that I could at least wash my doonas and blankets as needed - instead of sending them to my daughters to that she could wash them in her larger machine. At the time of purchasing my Whirlpool it was the best brand on the market according to Choice at the time. It's been reliable for what I needed under normal use and I was un
... Read moreder the impression that this was as good as it got with WM(washing machines). So thinking about getting a new WM over the last 6 months, once I checked out online what was available, gave me the serious heeby-jeebies, especially given that they are now made so differently and largely computerised etc etc. I went through some serious 'granny' issues of anger or frustration as to why things had to change given that they worked ok 10 yrs ago etc.! Anyway, after researching this issue to virtual death and registering with Choice so that I could get the best info available, I finally settled on a Fisher and Paykel, which Choice also recommended most recently (2013). So I ended up getting a 8K F&P 'Wash Smart' model. I cannot believe what a difference this has made to my life now......or at least I couldn't have believed this 6 months ago! The reviews I'd read on this WM were good, but not nearly as good as the real thing. Firstly it's big enough so that I don't have to do so many loads, which is already a big time saver. Then it spins the washing so well (almost dry one could say) so that cloths dry much, much quicker than before on the line. Tried it out one winter's arvo with hanging washing out about 2pm and things were dry by 5pm easily. With my old machine one would be lucky to have cloths dry after hanging them out all day given the cold temps and shorter days. Then it also has a hand/delicates washing cycle which my old machine never had, so I can wash delicates in there and with the use of special laundry bags I can wash undies of all descriptions in there too. Now last but not least I've noticed I have no lint probs like I used to have with old machine. Winter fleecy lined etc used to always end up with some degree of lint, but now there's none! Can't describe how liberating this feels! So another really nice thing is that when I do delicates I put them on soak and the machine automatically washes and then soaks for a couple of hrs and then completes wash.......who could ask for anything more ♪ ♪ ♫! So yes I would highly recommend this machine and grade it as Excellent giving it 100% marking! Time saving, more efficient, versatile and surprisingly good! NONE - Wished I'd had it sooner!Extra Information
