Unfixable transmission - stay away from auto!
As others have mentioned, there's a massive design flaw in the "auto" dual clutch transmission in fiesta and ford vehicles. There is no fix and they are unsafe. Currently dealing with ACCC to get full refund as Ford is mostly ignoring this global issue - class action already underway overseas!

Clutch failed at 4500 Ford say not covered by warranty car is a 2015.
I thought it was a good car to drive apart from changing gear from 1st to 2nd quite difficult to change
Interior was fine quite comfortable
Not at all reliable, beware of Ford warranty, clutch failed at 4500 miles Ford say not covered on warranty although this was down to [name removed] trying to blame bad driving.

Great little city car
Great little car, zippy to drive. Happy I made the choice to upgrade to the sports model, I'm really happy with the transmission.
Interior is really comfortable. Visibility is good. I do mostly stop/start city driving but fuel efficiency seems good. Performs well on highway/freeways too.
Love the capped servicing, and haven't had any problems at all at this stage.

great car
Awesome little car, I had Holdens which always expensively break down, Mitsubishi which are great, and Hyundais which are fantastic if you are unfortunately in a smash, but this is my first Ford. I brought it because they are one of them cars that never break down, 3 years old only 20000ks had it for six months, love it! When refilling they take hardly any fuel, the gear box takes a while to get used to as its only semi auto but once you know how to drive it and get used to it. It wont handle like an auto because it isn't. But the braking power...Read more
is just mind-boggling, never driven a car that can brake like that. Also putting up with a weird gear box is what saves money on fuel it is just the design of my car is a sedan not the hatch it gives more room if you don't like wasting money on cars get one.

Best thing I've ever purchased
This is a brilliant little car that holds up not only in everyday small town roads, but also on long motor way journeys! I suffer with bad knees and even I find the ride comfortable on 2+ hours of motor way driving! The handling of the car is light and easy, and the add ons like blue tooth and the emergency assist help to make it so much better! Would definitely recommend!

Everything I could have expected and more
Very nice car. We got the car about 18 months ago. Very happy with driver and passenger leg and head room (I'm 6'3''). Very happy with audio, Bluetooth and USB capability. Very happy with driving performance.
Actually very hard to fault so far.
Done about 20,000km in 18 months. Probably deserves 4&1/2 stars!
Oh also fuel economy is insane.
We worked out we have saved over $2000 dollars compared to our previous V6 Holden in 18 months.

Great small car
Our Fiesta Zetec WZ 5 speed manual Turbo Diesel 2012 was purchased second hand in 2013 from local Ford Dealer with 8,700Kms. Has been a reliable car now with 43,000Kms on the clock with only a minor issue with the cruise control, which was a minor replacement of an electrical component under warranty. Chose the Fiesta because of the Turbo Diesel (Personal Choice) Is very economical returning 4.7 L/100Kms. Capped pricing for servicing makes this great buying.Customer Service from the local Ford Dealer is very good. Have had no other issues with this car

Piece of crap
I to have had major issues with my Fiesta 2012.It has been back to the dealer 4 times in the last 18 months with shuddering, jerking and loss of power in the low gears. They have replaced the transmission, and 2 weeks ago the clutch assembly was replaced.I was told it will always have a slight shudder when first taking off.If I could afford it I would get rid of it ( the service guy nodded his head when I told him this ) and never buy another Ford again.Obviuosly they knew about these issues when I first enquired about buying one, and no spare tyre to boot another thing they ommited to tell me, stay away from the Ford Fiesta and the Focus.

On to my second Fiesta, both fine
Bought my first Fiesta - a 2010WS manual Zetec - in 2010, for about $19K. Last of the German-builts. Seemed a better choice than a Mazda2. All good, great car if a bit gutless. I buckled 2 rims then took the hint and got CSA Swords all round for $800. Liked the handling, electronics, bluetooth. Cityford Rockdale serviced, no problems. Always used 95RON and high quality synthetic.
Last year I hit a kangaroo on the Newell and wrote it off. In a bit of a hurry, I chose a WT Ecoboost. Even better car. Same economy (6L/100k hwy) and quite toey. Tha...Read more

Transmission Issues - UNFIXABLE
I purchased a brand new 2014 model Fiesta in May last year, so it is now just about a year old. Since day 1 I have had issues with the car's transmission. It shakes, shudders, lags excessively and drops out of gear while on the motorway. I have taken it in 5 times under warranty, and they cannot fix it. I have even had my clutch replaced, and still no luck, that actually made it worse. Currently my car is at the dealership while Fair Trading deal with them! DO NOT buy a Ford Fiesta/Focus with the new 'dual-clutch' transmission. This car is a safety hazard!!!

Decent if flawed in some areas
Bought new in mid 2012. Only has 18,000km's on the clock.
Decent car for the money and has a decent list of standard features included but also has some glaring flaws.
Lacks reach adjustment for the steering wheel which the first german sourced model had. Makes it hard for taller driver to ever get a comfortable driving position.
Clutch is a pain in the rear end to use as it seems to have no real distinct pick up point (Bite) and has a mushy feel in its action though the clutch pedal. Most Manuals can become smooth and easy to drive ...Read more
after a few hours behind the wheel but over two years later it's still an issue. I'll be selling the car soon for this reason alone. Paint had some defects in it (Dirt inclusion) Still it's small and for the most part finish is ok.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Totally disappointed
Worse car ever, very unsafe and would not recommend a Ford Fiesta or Focus to anyone. I purchased a new Fiesta 16 months ago and it has been back to Ford 6 times, has had 2 clutches as they are faulty but continue to sell these car and this has been an issue since 2011. There are thousands of people having these issues. To me Ford are just a disgrace. Check out this FB page 'Fix our Focus & Fiestas before buying 1.

Transmission Issues not fixed after 5 services
What's the point of having a trendy car with all the gadgets inside when you don't even have the confidence to accelerate. Taken it back to the dealer 5 times in a period of 2.5 years and still having this issue. Will never buy a Ford again.

Good little performer.
I have the same problem engaging reverse in my manual 2014 Fiesta S found if you double clutch it's not a big deal. It's possible it's just wearing in. Apart from that it's an awesome little jigger. The engine is a peach plenty of power very economical and only 3 cylinders. Reckon a close ratio six speed manual would be a better box for it though.

Ford should be ashamed of themselves
A true lemon. It's not a case of what is wrong with it - rather what's right with it. The largest issue is the automatic transmission. I can't believe I brought a brand new car and received this piece of rubbish; it feels like I'm driving a clapped out old car. Ford (more specifically the Reef City Ford dealership in Gladstone, Aus.) have basically wiped their hands of it. Biggest regret.

What a lemon
Our 2009 Fiesta CL has gone through 2 sets of brake pads and rotors. Now at 90,000 km our timing belt has failed. It was due to be changed at 150,000. The warranty for Ford is nowhere near any of the other car brands. We will never buy another Ford again - EVER.

Very good runaround town car
Overall I'm very happy with my 2014 Ford Fiesta. I've only owned it for a month, but I'm especially happy with the low fuel consumption. Seating is very comfortable and for once I don't need a cushion for height. The seat is fully adjustable. One complaint so far is that the windscreen wipers shake and shudder all over the windscreen, but this might be fixable when I take the car in for its first safety check very soon. I'd like it to take off a bit quicker from being stopped at lights, but once it gets going it's a great little car and can hol...Read more
d its own in the traffic. I've learned not to try and put my foot down to overtake on the open highway. The power just isn't there compared to the larger car that I've been accustomed to. So, steady, steady is the way to drive it and we'll get along just fine.1 comment

No spare tyre and not warned
Am so cheesed off with this car as a single woman. I got no discount on the new car, no trade in for my old Ford and ripped off on the window tinting. Thanks Ford Maddington never again. Had I known there was but a tyre filer in the boot I would never have bought it. I've had two flat tyres and each time has been a nightmare to get them fixed.

Hi, I'm looking at buying a 2010 Ford Fiesta LX that's done 90,000ks. It just had its 90k service.
I've had it RAA checked and they've said it's due for timing belt change (10 years/150,000ks). How much would this cost? And are there any other issues I should consider? Thanks

Pretty sure I never changed my timing belt and I’m at 180k
I purchased a 2009 WS Fiesta Zetec last October and found it required the timing belt change when I read the manual. Given the previous owner's attitude to servicing, there was no way it would have been done. I did this: I bought the required parts online. I could get them cheaper than my mechanic could. Change the water pump at the same time. Be aware that "timing belt kits" often come with camshaft seals, and if your mechanic goes ahead and does them, you'll then need new bolts for the sprocket(s) they have to remove to get at the seals. They are once only usage "torque to yield" bolts. I'd suggest not to do the seals unless they obviously need replacement- and get the bolts in first. I'd also advise to have a new accessory belt on hand, mine started disintegrating within days of the timing belt work because they're stretch fit and not really designed to be reused. If the car runs like a hairy goat after the work, the cam timing's out. This happened to me, there were 3 bolts supplied to "lock" the camshaft and the workshop used the wrong one. All up cost for me was $1200, but that included a service with oil filter and 5W-20 oil (the recommended grade), a new driveshaft seal plus fitting, a wheel balance and a few other odds and sods. If no other work is required and you don't change the cam seals it might be in the $700 to $800 region. My mechanic has reasonable hourly rates, but charged me $104 for "special tools hire" which annoyed me. Presumably that wouldn't happen at a Ford dealership but they'd undoubtedly find other parts "needing" replacement.
It's likely to be in the region of $700-800 although my service was ~$1200 including parts. I had the gearbox end drive shaft seal replaced, a wheel balance and other odds and sods. I also supplied many of the parts as I could get them cheaper online than the workshop could get them in. Be aware that many "timing belt kits" come with cam seals, and if the workshop goes ahead and changes them, you'll need new sprocket bolts as they're single use only "torgue to yield". In my case that caused a delay of a week while they were ordered in and fitted. Also, the accessory belt on my car nearly disintegrated within days of getting it back: it's stretch to fit and not really designed for reuse, so get a new one of those as well as a water pump kit. You may also need a new thermostat, or at least it's sensible to have the extra parts fitted as so much has to be dismantled to do the timing belt. If you avoid the cam seals (i.e. they look fine) you might save up to $100 or possibly more in costs.
