My manual Trend 2013 (petrol) has done 60,000km without any problems. It's a very solid well built vehicle with some great features for the price such as hill start assist, cap-less fuel filling, voice activated Bluetooth and with the convenience pack, auto headlights, auto wipers and auto dimming rear view mirror. Even with plenty of spirited driving I'm still on my original Michelin tyres. The motor is a sweet revver and has a suprising amount of go when pushed. It's reasonably economical too, I reliably return 6.2 L/100.
A superior car to the other brands I considered and drove. I would definitly recommend this car.

Fantastic car, very well engineered, great handling, great steering, body is solid, ride is well controlled but not too firm, the motor has both decent torque down low and it likes to rev (2 litre), it has decent luggage space with flat fold/split rear seats, supportive seats with a good driving position for a short person and well thought out controls.
I test drove a LOT of cars before picking the Focus and the Focus wasn't on my initial search list. I started out looking at the smaller cars but in the end I couldn't find one I really lik...
Read moreed and I was coming from a smaller car (1997 Lancer) so I like small cars. The Ford Fiesta which was on my initial list is a GREAT car to drive and I really liked it except for its luggage capacity which is abysmal. No flat fold rear seat in the Fiesta was a deal breaker. The Honda Jazz has GREAT luggage capacity and was a strong contender but in the end the cheapest model I could buy at the time cost as much as the base model Focus ($18500 on the road). At the same price the Focus is a much better car. I drove the Kia's (Rio and Cerato). I wanted to like them, but they were let down by hard wearing, low grip tyres on the lower models. I haven't driven cars with such abysmal road grip for about a decade. With better tyres the Kia's are probably great cars but I wasn't prepared to buy one and then spend extra for new tyres just to find out. Yes I did push all the cars I tested hard around the corners to see how they would perform in emergency situations and so all were on a level playing field. I tested the brakes too. Only on the Kia's did I have the stability control cut in due to lack of tire grip. Everything else, even the Honda Jazz and the Hyundai i20 could handle everything I threw at it. The new Mitsubishi Lancer was a good car too but in the end was ruled out for a poor driving position for me.- BodyHatch

Had my ST for almost two years.. love it. Had a few niggles like door seals coming unglued, couple of rattles but had them rectified at jarvis ford. Very comfy recaro seats that hold you in very well. Very quick car and alot of fun while economical too, 1st set of tyres nearly done at 32200km but ditching the eagle f1s for michelin ps3 for a more comfortable tyre.

I am an owner of a new (under warranty) Ford Focus Trend 2014 model (35,000 kms). Ever since buying my car i have had problems with my oil. I'd fill it up to the top and 2-3 weeks later its half way down the gauge.
I've taken it to the Ford Dealership the Wollongong and every time they say they've fix the problem the problem hasn't been fixed.
I've told them if there is any leaks causing the oil levels to diminish and they've said they can't find any.
I feel like that keep saying that there's no problem until my warranty runs out and actual...
Read morely do something about it. A new car shouldnt lose this much oil in such a short time! I drive from Wollongong to Sydney 3-4 times a week for work. I'm at a point where I'll soon seek assistance with the Dept of Consumer Affairs

I purchased this car new and the Ford Dealer neglected to mention the transmission was plaqued with problems until after I drove it out of the showroon. From day 1 i have had problems, Ford tell me a week after i start reporting problems that they know about these issues, tell me after 2 weeks I need a new clutch, the next day Service manager confirmed this, the following day after lodging a complaint the dealership advises my model is a late model has new components and only needs bedding in for approx 7500 klm despite the specs saying 300 Klm...
Read more, after driving it for 7500klm car is worse than ever and is an embarrasment to own and drive. Now they tell me it does need a clutch but "sorry"you are number 48 in line, i advised them I am lodging a claim with VCAT and will reject the car, they then tell me that by the time the case is heard they will fix it "approx 5 weeks" but cant give a definate time, parts have not been manufactured and the problem is worldwide with 47,000 cars effected, other customers have waited around 4 months for parts. The faults are:- constant jerking, wont change gears in the lower end, revs up to 4000 rpm before changing gears, crunching and grinding noises from the transmission, gears wont change in cruise control, front end shudders because the gears wont change, very poor take off, quite dangerous as its unpradictable on take off, basically it drives like a manual with a driver who doesent know how to operate the clutch properly. The dealership wont give me anything in writing and have now told me i wont get anything from them because i am going to lodge a claim with VCAT. I approached them to negotiate a suitable fix, they can trade the car in but i will loose money as they will only give me what it is worth. I will never buy another Ford (this was my first) and would stronly suggest not buying a Ford Focus with the new Powershift Transmission, my only fault was I assumed i was buying a new car and didnt need to do any research. I have have not even had the car 4 months and still no end in sight.................I'm over it !!- BodyHatch

Bought manual in 2013, done about 40k of mainly highway driving, the Trend is great, performs in all areas, handles like a dream, seats are extremely comfy, the boot release is in an odd spot but I seriously cannot fault it, the service at the Ford dealer has been very good...would recommend the vehicle to anybody -

I purchased a 2013 Ford Focus Trend auto sedan November 2013 - my first brand new car. I should have been a happy customer, however, I quickly felt like I'd got a lemon for my hard earned cash. Before I'd even gone 1000km, my car was returned to the dealership for computer upgrades that did little to fix things. Like many others, I was frustrated with the jerkiness of gear changes, inconsistent hesitation of the transmission on take-off, and the loud rattles and shuddering when driving in city traffic.
I put my car in for the scheduled 1500...
Read more0km service. It was barely a year old and had only done 13,000km, but it needed a new clutch kit and was off the road for 4 days. While at the service centre, they performed yet another computer upgrade to address some of the problems, but my concerns were also fobbed off with excuses such as, "It's a characteristic of the transmission." The car drove 'okay' for about a week, but the rattle soon returned just as bad as before and the transmission issues were still there. For Ford to blow its customers off by saying that these faults are a characteristic of the transmission and are 'within specifications' is unacceptable. The Focus is an uncomfortable and at times, an embarrassingly noisy car to drive. Moreover, I shouldn't have had to live in fear that I'm going to get hit by an oncoming car just because the damn gear box can't make up its mind when my foot presses on the accelerator. The whole Ford experience has left a bad taste. I'll never buy another Ford, and will never buy a car with a duel clutch transmission. Update May 2015. I lost so much faith in the Focus that I sucked it up and accepted a crappy trade-in offer. Then I bought myself a brand new 2014 Mazda3 Maxx Sedan in December 2014. What a relief it was to get rid of that awful Ford Focus. The Mazda is great, and in 6 months of ownership, I have no complaints whatsoever.- BodySedan

Compare best HatchbacksI was told the problem with 2013 automatic gear box was fixed. so I bought a new runout 2014 model focus hatch automatic paid $24000 for the vehicle 3 weeks & 3600 kilometres I had a brake down I took the vehicle back to novis ford Caboolture who know about the problem and said they will buy the vehicle back for $17814 so i decided I didn't want to drive around with an unreliable vehicle so I accepted the loss of over $6000 just to get rid of it. So beware I personally believe. the automatic gearbox problem still exist.
I have paper work to prove all that I have said.

I purchased a 2014 ford focus trend. Made in September 2014 and I purchased it as a demo (made in Thailand) Since owning it I have had nothing but issue. It's a manual but has clutch shudder something chronic when ever it feels like it. Sometimes it feels the need not to start, turns over but just does not Fire. The air conditioner works when it feels like it. Recently it was dangerously low on coolant and the engine has a milky looking substance under the oil cap and all inside the engine. The dealership tried to tell me that the weather condi...
Read moretions where I live are to hot during the day and to cold at night, yeah right causing moisture in the engine. But didn't have an explanation for my loss of coolant. I drove it home from the dealer which was 150 kilometres away. I got half way home and the car went into limp mode and wouldn't go over 60km/h, it had a loud rattle noise from the engine. I turned it off and left it. Re started it and it was normal. 2 days later the exact same thing happens, no coolant left and milky oil cap again. But still no explanation for where the coolant is going. I'm absolutely raged with anger I spent all this money on a new car and expected reliability, not get 7400 kms on the clock and it be the biggest lemon going. I don't know what to do with the car as I am fed up with it already. Who's to say it isn't doing long term damage. Ford Australia are being helpful in a way, but I feel that they are not telling everything I need to know. I've owned it since 15/12/2014 and I have been advised not to drive it. What they hell I buy a new car to be driven, not to have it broken down parked in the shed. As I said I can not even explain how much anger I have for this car and how much I just want to trade it in for anything except another ford. HELP. Since my last complaint the Ford Focus has broken down for the same reason again after ford doing all the repairs on it. They have since taken the vehicle back to the dealership and told me they can't find anything wrong with it. Very disappointed this keeps happening, I am fed up with this vehicle. It's cost my self time and money, for example leaving work to meet the tow truck, leaving work to collect a loan vehicle, being late to work because either the vehicle has broken down or I've gone to go to work and it's either not starting or I have to wait for RAA to try and diagnose the problem, or to inform me whether it's safe to drive or not.- Engine Size2.0 duratec

I bought this vehicle brand new and would have to be the worst car that I ever bought. I've had 2 inner rear door panels replaced as they warped from the heat, fuel tank replaced as would never fill up past 3/4 tank. The first clutch (Dual Clutch Transmission) replaced at 33000k's and was due for another clutch replacement at 64000k's.
When the dealer told me it will be a few months wait for the new clutch as it was on back order, I found another way to fix the problem, traded it in for a New Hyundai.......problem solved.

We decided to buy a new car when new kid arrived. We decided on the manual Sport Hatch because of the engine size and and a few of the extras it got over the ambiente and trend, like the reversing camera - the only extra I would have liked is the turbo the ST has. On the plus side, it is sporty (no problems overtaking road trains), has hill start assist, reverse camera, sat nav, blue tooth, 17" alloy wheels, Sony sound system, very economical, has instantaneous fuel consumption figures, auto lights and wipers. On the negative side its a bit sma...
Read morell for a big bloke (but thats really my problem, not the car's), gear stick is a bit far back for the small wife after she shifts seat forward, the pedals are light and the engine is quiet (unless I am gunning it) - its difficult to drive in boots because I cant feel the pedals. The turning circle is crap, worse than my Falcon, car is 1m shorter but still as wide as a Falcon. The boot is small but if you can lie the seat down you can fit a bar fridge still in the box. The dual zone air con is over-rated - I dont see the point of it, and there are no vents in the back but its small car with not much air volume to cool. The Focus ST's come with excellent Goodyear tyres but the Sport only comes with Michelin Primacy LC's - not so sporty. Overall we are happy with the car and its fun to drive, no major issues in 3 years we have had it. Reckon we will have it for a while yet.- Engine Size2.0
