Nothing wrong with iQ4
We upgraded to an iQ4 - its just a software update. Plugged everything in and turned it on. And thats the end of it. We also have a Foxtel internet hub, and the only problems we have ever experienced have been when theres bad weather and we cant get satellite reception, or when the internet goes down.
We upgraded the operating system so we can get Netflix without switching back to the tv source.
Maybe were lucky or just have a good connection, but the only problem we have with Foxtel is that its a bit expensive.
Weve been customers of Foxtel...Read more

IQ goes up, performance goes down
I have now been running IQ4 for some 4 months. My IQ3 was working perfectly when Foxtel contacted me and said as I was such a good customer (been with them from the beginning) they were rewarding us with an IQ4 for free.
Of course I jumped at the invitation.
Mistake! When it works it works "fairly" well. The new menu system is good and the new handset is great. However, it drops the internet connection regularly and it's NOT my modem or internet - that hasn't changed. I am forced to use the wifi connection and not the ethernet connection ...Read more
because the ethernet connection simply will not work - yet as most people realise, ethernet is far more reliable than wi-fi. The signal comes into the box but will not get back to Foxtel. I have used three different ethernet cables. I might have rebooted the IQ3 2 or 3 times a year. I find I have to reboot the IQ4 almost weekly. programs fail to record when set up for auto-record, and sometimes with recorded programs they get half way through the show, the picture freezes, and then jumps to the end of the program. So what about Foxtel help. Yes, what about it? It is mostly automated and trying to talk to a person is almost impossible as the process insists that letting Foxtel auto-reset the box set will fix the problems. It doesn't.Purchased in July 2021.

Improved experience with Foxtel IQ4
Foxtel should be congratulated for IQ4 - providing 4K for some shows (e.g. Rugby World Cup), a remote that is easy to use, and integration with Netflix. Also pleased to hear that ABC iView be accessible soon. Best feature on the remote is the ability to easily turn on captions - don't have to listen quite so intensely to dialogue with different English dialects.

Foxtel IQ4 massive disappointment, frequent reboots needed, regularly failing to record,
frequent problems with (a) recording failures, (b) needing to reboot. After many many years of Foxtel this has been a massive disappointment. All since IQ4 'software' changes in July/August this year. Have spent many hours on tech support from Foxtel . Also refer to title for more details

Keep your old one
First week fantastic, 2 weeks later on my second iq4 with still the same problem, which is having to constantly reset. The only way for the reset to work is to turn the power off each time everytime we want watch foxtel. Wishing I stayed with the iq2 which was perfect for all the years we had it.
Technician came out swapped the boxes over and said never had the problem before.
When it's working it's great just frustrating that we have to constantly reset the iq4. If you're happy with your choice of box stay with it. Got it with free upgrade from Telstra.

Can't see why there are so many negative reviews
Upgrade from Telesra IQ3 to raw Foxtel IQ4
Had it going a month and have had no problems with the box or software.
While like others I was suprised that you need a Sat dish as no cable support, however the tech was fantastic and all up and running in no time.
Pity the commercial channels have to be through seperate TV ariel and hope Foxtel and the channels eventually come to the party as our reception is not always good.

Paying for a subscription that doesn't work..!! Foxtel through Telstra.
We moved house in July. It has NBN. We still had to get the satellite installed, but that's no problem. We have two rooms, both now set up with Foxtel. One big problem, neither box works properly.
* If I rewind or fast forward live tv, it freezes up.
* If I watch a recorded show, it freezes up. If I try to fast forward or rewind it freezes up then when it unfreezes it resets back to the beginning of the show, frozen.
* If I download and pay for a movie, it freezes constantly.
* In the first week the play and pause buttons didnt work on the remo...Read more

Hard to fault it
We upgraded from IQ2 to IQ4, taking advantage of free upgrade offer from Telstra. Was a bit nervous because we had lots of probs with IQ3 and returned it to get our trusty IQ2 back previously. I have to say that after a couple of months using and getting used to the new IQ4 format, it really is hard to fault. Everything works perfectly and even though i am usually an 'if it aint broke, dont fix it' person, we love it and it has increased our viewing pleasure. We find it slick and easy to use once you get the hang of it. We were so pleased with it that we happily paid for the upgrade of our second box. I really am astonished to see other poor reviews of it.

Far better than iq2
Replaced the Iq2 for the iq4 about 2weeks ago and can understand the negative reviews. For a few days I found learning the new ways of programming and finding the old settings a little confusing. But now it’s quite easy. The quality seems better and there is 4K. Recording etc is much the same and there are no problems on reliability etc. I suppose it’s just a step up and I took advantage of the new free Netflix offer which can’t be bad.

If i could give it less than 1, I would !
We should never have upgraded our foxtel box from a 2 to a 4. Its so frustrating. Never had so many issues!! Series link recording on free to air doesnt work for some reason!! And it stops recording part way and to replay is so frustrating !@

Crazy!
We have optic fibre to the house and use an IQ2. Wanting to update to IQ4 I was informed that we needed a satellite dish to upgrade to IQ4 as it does not work with optic fibre. But was then told our address was ineligible for a satellite dish. So we cannot upgrade to IQ4 in any way - and there are no IQ3's available. So we stay on the old IQ2. But then can't have included Netflix on our package as we need an IQ4 for that. Who thought of this? In this modern world of optic fibre, I cannot understand why the IQ4 was not made to run with optic fibre.

contemptuous support from Foxtel
I was persuaded to switch to the IQ4 since my previous unit was old and dysfunctional. Hle to talad no problem with installation but the pause and record feature is useless. Have followed all the on site recommendations, have had regular remote re-boots but the feature is utterly unreliable. Worse still, it seems impossible to talk to a real person at Foxtel and when I text the number provided, I receive absolutely no response. Finally, the formal complaints procedure provided on the foxtel website is itself inaccessible. I am now seriously contemplating terminating the service after 8 years.

Words cannot describe...
This system is very pretty to look at. However, like most good looking objects it has no brains. It has broken down everyday since we upgraded. When it breaks down, it stops recording because you have to turn it off at the power. It stalls if you scroll through the channels too quickly, it stalls if it feels it is doing too much work, ie: recording two shows at once. Keep your old box, just hold onto it and cherish it. (sob) I wanted to give half a star for its looks because it is more than terrible, I am sending it back and closing my subscription. Actually they can pick up the bloody thing.

The worst possible, absolute WORST EVER!!
I'm onto my second IQ4 after the first one was replaced. Continue to experience the same problem. It freezes when scrolling through channels, or trying to watch recorded shows. After watching for a while without changing chanel its starts flickers. Now its started unpairing with the bluetooth remote. I am rebooting on average 3-4times a week. I REGRET ever upgarding. Hold onto you old one for as long as you can. It is NOT WORTH the hassle.

Keep your iq2 if you have one
I had 2 iq2 boxes. Installed 1 new iq4 box which caused other box to become not authorised. Eventually got it back on, but i lost everything i had recorded. Received 2nd iq4 box and sent it back. The product is difficult to navigate, almost impossible to read the channels. Information about some programmes does not come up. Failed to record some programmes. If you have an iqa2 or 3 KEEP IT.

Fingers Crossed
Overall we've been happy with the IQ4 box, fingers crossed after reading the recent reviews. The motor in it sounds a little noisy but not a reason to worry about it. It's been functioning ok, no dramas yet.
Got it as a free upgrade.

DON"T GET IT!!!!!
This has to be the worst product interface ever!!!! Some really stupid person decided to have the channel No's printer in light gray on dark Gray so you can read them then they decided to put up all the channel icons (who know all of them? truly. The writing is so small on screen that you cant read anything. Try to delete a show you dont like after wanting a little Well you cant!
It is ridiculously hard to navigate DONT GET IT. I want my old box back so much easier to see and use.

How many televisions can you run from the IQ4
1 answer
There is only 1 HDMI output, and no composite outputs as on IQ2. So, directly from the IQ4 box, just 1 TV.
However, you can use Foxtel GO on other devices and TV sets.
https://www.foxtel.com.au/support/tv/apps-extras/foxtel-go.html
CHRISTOPHERasked
Any way of recording on my separate PVR?
With not outputs, except HDMI, it seems impossible to record anywhere except on the IQ4, including free to air TV.
2 answers
Yes, HDMI outputs will prevent you directing to a PVR to record the program. There are devices that ignore the HDMI encrypting (probably illegal). I guess if your TV had a PVR function you could plug a stick (Hard Drive) into your TV and record that way, in real time whilst you watch the show. And i understand the recordings on the IQ4 Hard Drive are encrypted so you cannot access them. To record Free to Air you need to by a Stand Alone PVR that has free to air decoders but then of course you have to switch between signal sources.
Thanks James. Wish I'd stayed with IQ2.
GAP D.asked
So is the IQ4 better quality than the iq2? Or is it about the same? Please let me know.
2 answers
I upgraded from iq3, so I cannot answer your question properly, the point of it is to be able to provide the 4k, ultra high definition sports channel. The signal will be broadcast in 4k for all channels eventually.
I prefer it to iq3 box, u can watch Netflix through the iq4 box too (providing u have a Netflix subscription).
So is it better quality than iq3?
