The watch is okay but still on the fence
Previous to this watch I had the Garmin Vivoactive HR. It was promoted as 5 ATM, meaning that it should have been fine going swimming or snorkelling in shallow waters. But disappointingly it died on a swim and Garmin will only offer a replacement for a reduced price, as it was outside the warranty period. I was reluctant to get another Garmin but it is one of the small number of brands which connects to certain apps like strava. It doesn't have touchscreen like the vivoactive HR but setting the alarm or changing the layout of the screen are easy to work out.

Great initially....build quality is questionable
I got the Instinct in May 2022 just after it was released. I am currently on my 2nd watch as Garmin had to give me a "new" one (ie refurbished). The issue I had, one that many others have had, is when you get a notification, the vibration ended up making something loose inside the watch so it would rattle with every notification. The other issue I had was that the GPS was wildly inaccurate at times. On a 5km run it would measure 4.8km. The battery is great though, the lack of bells and whistles sure does make it last longer than you would think...Read more
. For the sale price of $299, it would be hard to pass up. Feels bombproof and well suited to someone who doesnt need all the optional extras and loves the outdoors. Lots of reported issues with the Altimeter too, but I am yet to have the issue so far. Just a shame that the build quality isnt quite there.Purchased in May 2021 for $349.00.

Perfect smartwatch for outdoors
Had my Garmin Instinct for just over a month now. I have really enjoyed the upgrade to this smart watch.
It's a basic enough watch with enough features to make it great value in my opinion. It's rugged, the band is comfortable, screen has ample size. The stepper is pretty accurate. HR monitor is reasonably accurate mostly.
Battery life is extremely good for a smart watch. I went 10 days, no GPS use and only lost 2 bars of battery. I think that is pretty good. GPS usage can drain it with prolonged use, to be expected I guess. I've used the G...Read more
PS for walking and bike rides and found it extremely accurate when synced with my phone to review where I've been. Overall I'm happy with the purchase. Paid $299 at HN and don't feel disappointed i didn't by the Fenix 5x that was on special for $550. Having owned the instinct, it more than surpasses the features I need and buying the Fenix would have been a waste for me.Purchased in December 2021 at Harvey Norman Retail Stores - Appliances for $299.00.

Rugged watch
Had a Vivoactive HR prior to this and was very disappointed.
This on the other hand is a major step up. I work outdoors and this watch has taken all sorts of hits and there's not even a scratch on it. It's one tough watch.
Many functions to get used to with an excellent battery life.
Purchased in December 2021 at JB Hi-Fi for $350.00.

Cannot support ASIAN languages
Watch looks cool and durable. However, as it is a smart sport watch and we are in 2022 now, it is a BIG surprise that it does not support ASIAN languages (e.g. Japanese, Chinese, etc.) for Australian version. I know GARMIN sells ASIAN version in other countries which support Asian languages, but for Australian version, it doesn't support Asian languages and the MOST RIDICULOUS thing is they do not allow you to install Asian languages pack by yourself or by official software updates. Now, the phone's notifications which in Asian languages cannot...Read more
be shown via this "smart" watch. Hey Garmin! I really don't understand why you do this way? Is difficult for you? Obviously, it is not. I am not the only person who complaint this issue, there are many people complaint it too. Just add a language pack please! Shame on you! I don't suggest people to buy it who needs Asian languages support on smart watch, and you can pay less to buy other brand's smart watches which are much smarter.Purchased for $399.00.

Fantastic Watch
Purchased early this year after my Vivo smart decided to break on me, the watch has some great features on it that the Vivo didn't, haven't had the chance to really go through the whole settings but I am very impressed with it so far.
Has great functions and easy to use, lots of activity options to use.
Battery life is very good and last a lot longer than previous watch can last up to 5 days easily without a charge, but that is all dependent on how much the activities are used.
Would definitely recommend this watch and if this ever did break down on me I would go out and purchase another.
Purchased at Rebel Sport.

Super Smart Watch
The Garmin Instinct smart watch is fantastic. It has a rechargeable lithium-ion battery and comes with 16MB memory. It records steps, heart rate, has a GPS, barometric altimeter, compass, key lock, elevation profiles, storm alerts and heaps more.
It has a rugged look and is lightweight. It's not designed with anything exceptional or unique; it is a plain-looking smartwatch that comes without a touchscreen. The rubber strap is snug and fits nicely on your wrist.
A fantastic watch that I love that lasts for days using it as a watch and quickly charges when needed.
