After reading reviews of competitive brands I decided on a Gentrax 3.5kW generator. I ordered it from Outbaxcamping, it arrived within days. However, I couldn't get it to start. On closer inspection I found the spark plug had been broken off sometime during transportation. That's ok, I'll remove the broken bit and buy a replacement, no big deal. When I unscrewed the broken part of the spark plug I dropped it down inside the air cooling duct surrounding the engine! I could see that there was no way I would be able to fish it out. spark plug rolling around a flywheel didn't seem an ideal situation. Enter Mike from Outbaxcamping, to help sort out my problem....he even e-mailed me on a Sunday! No one does that! Well Mike did, and after consultation with his technician on the Monday he requested I send the generator back. He organised the pick up. Within days it was returned, it started easily and I left it purring away for an hour. Outbaxcamping are the tops, I never thought I would get such service, Mike and his company are one in a million. I hope I can do more business with them in the future. And lastly, the price! Who can beat that value? No one. Thank you Mike and your team.Purchased in April 2021 at Outbax for $750.00.

Great generator, Quality better than expected
The Generator arrived very well packed and I was quite surprised that it came with a small tool kit, funnel for the oil and a protective cover. The instruction manual is reasonable but did contain a few minor errors, the most serious was no instructions in regard to the remote start and stop function, The battery needed to be connected however it was not to difficult to work out. On close examination the build quality seemed better than expected.
After filling with oil using supplied funnel and filling with fuel, the generator started on th...Read more
e second pull of the recoil starter. I found that in operation it was quieter than expected, only slightly more noisy than a Yamaha EF2000. I then tested the generator with some workshop power tools, 1600 watt circular saw, 2200w angle grinder and 1800 Watt docking saw. All started OK. I then connected 1000 watt microwave oven combo with 2400 watt conventional oven, again all OK. It seems that the output rating is about right and the engine size seems to be about right for the rated output. Is it reliable, well only time will tell, but seems to handle everything I have tried it with so far. I believe if you follow the maintenance as published in the manual there should be no reason why it should give years of good service. The remote start worked very well, once I worked out The battery need to be connected by the end user, this feature however adds considerable weight to the generator and when full of fuel the unit runs out to a net weight of about 45kgs, however 4 large wheels are fitted and rolls along the ground with ease. In summary the unit appears to be reasonably well built with features you would not expect in a low cost Chinese built generator and appears to operate to specification. The manual could be better written but I have seen a lot worse. At nearly 45 kilograms at full fuel and oil it is not exactly easily portable but the wheels mostly off-set this, If you are lifting in and out of a vehicle or trailer I would recommend a two person lift. This is the only reason I did not give it 5 stars. I have been pleased with the purchase so far and has done everything I have wanted it to do. The GenTrax produces quality power at fairly low cost and appears to be one of the better quality Chinese made units.Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!

Good generator
Bought this generator from Outbax Camping about a year ago and so far has proven to be easy to start and very reliable. We use it for a couple of hours every couple of weeks and hasn't skipped a beat. The only thing better than the generator was the service from Outbax themselves. Cheers Guys and Girls!

How to start gentrax by the remote
1 answer
Hi Leigh,
In order to remote start the generator make sure that normal key start does work, this will check that the start battery is connected and charged. The manual makes no mention that the end user has to connect the battery.. The key must be on in order for remote start to work. Check battery in remote, two remote controls should have been supplied, Press start button on remote twice, on the second press you should here the generator crank and start. Please note that if the key is left on and the generator is not used or started for any length of time, the battery will go flat but for normal camping or short term intermittent use this is not a problem. This is one area where the design could be better. I have owned one of these generators for a few years now and i can say it so far has not let me down. I have found it pays to give it a run at least once a month if you think it is not going to be run for some time.

Hi Tami,
Recharge of the battery is quite easy if you have or can borrow a automotive type battery charger. All you need to do is to open the battery compartment, disconnect the red positive lead from the battery and connect the battery charger to the battery terminals. The battery should take about 2 to 6 hours to fully charge. Reconnect the battery positive lead and it should be right to go. The generator does charge the battery automatically but it does require many hours of continuous operation to fully charge it.

Gentrax 3.5kW Remote Start Camping Inverter has anybody in Australia looked into LP Bottled Gas conversion, thanks, this looks easy https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4k6Nq63I_Y4

Hi Milt,
I have not looked into this myself but unless a proper conversion kit were available from the manufacturer, and I doubt if that would be the case with the Gentrax, it would not be cost effective to convert to LPG. There may be other issues as well if the engine is not designed to run with LPG. I can say that the generator has not missed a beat so far and has always done the job when needed.

Thanks Laurie, yes all good advice, but see there’s a simple solution...unless when, if you don’t want your air cleaner assembly exploded by a backfire https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=4k6Nq63I_Y4 good to hear yours has been going good thanks
