I found the chrome cast the best thing to make my normal TV into a smart tv. It needs the Wi-Fi internet to work. And your phone must be on the same Wi-Fi to cast anything from it onto the TV. Watch anything from YouTube and other similar apps onto the TV or watch a video you made on the phone straight into the TV using the Google Home app

Good device, first it turned my non smart TV into a smart TV where I could stream netflix and Stan from my Android. Now does a bit more on my TV where I can cast the content on my pc to a larger screen and helps me with designing my graphics.
Also works well with Spotify on my phone

I had LED TV and looking to upgrade to smart TV but then I found Google Chromecast.
It has everything you would need in smart TV. Its small yet very advanced as it can transform your TV into Smart TV. All you need is Wifi and configure it your chrome cast. And it will be accessible to all the smart devices you have.
There are so many apps that can be used with this and represent great value. You can mirror you device with your Tv and can enjoy the benefits to share with your loved ones!!!
Its a great little invention that can save you a lot of money!!!
I bought two in 6 months and enjoy the benefits.

Chromecast has been the most frustrating product I've ever purchased! Refuses to connect to the internet even when the WiFi signal is excellent. Tried resetting the device, moving the router, disconnecting and reconnecting the internet. I've tried to get this device working so many times but to no avail... I wish I hadn't wasted my money!

There really isn't a standard anymore chromecast yet another poorly executed product! It really doesn't do the job! Every single program needs to support it, constant issues trying to get a simple video playing. Thought $60 to make a dumb tv smart was good idea, HA. The same goes with apple airplay standard.

It's nice when it works,
PRO's:-instant wireless streaming
- can work dreat with voice command if you have google home device.
- can stream from phone and Pc's
Con's:- BUT i have been having constant issues with the connection.
- video is always jittering and missing frames.
- its drops resolution ( i am getting about 6 mbps net speed), but even when things are working fine on my pc it drops resolution in streaming and still misses frames.
- some times connection just dops but its very very rare.

This is a great tool for those people who needed to "smart" up their old TV.
I bought this for my parents and their old TV suddenly became smart.
Cheap and good option if you want to use Youtube, Netflix without paying for a new TV.
Only catch is that the Internet speed better be good.. :)

Have to set it up, from scratch, every - single - time. The most frustrating IT device I've every had the misfortune to buy. Works maybe 20% of the time. Waste of money and very frustrating. Google help desk was no help at all. Strongly recommend not buying this thing.

Constant issues with connection and drop outs. It randomly starts restarting every 60 seconds, making it worse than useless.
Google use to be the company that made things which just worked, now they've gone down the Apple and Microsoft route. You make more money selling crap that breaks down and needs replacing quickly.

Super easy to set up and use! A small device that plugs into the HDMI imput on your tv, sync it to your device (phone, tablet, laptop) and away you go! I use it to stream tv shows from netflix. You can also use it to watch videos on the Internet, youtube even listen to spotify!! Definitely recommend, I use it every day.

Turns an old TV into a Smart TV. Good quality, easy to use, quick and easy to set up.
We use the Google Chromecast to play many different things - Netflix / Catch-up TV / YouTube etc, as well as screen mirroring from whatever device we want to play from - Mobile phone / Tablet / Laptop / PC. It's important to keep in mind that this device can only receive video that is cast to it, or is mirrored from another device - it can't play shared network files by itself.
It is powered by a USB cable, so if your TV has it, you can just power it with the TV's on-board USB port. Makes setup very simple.
The Google Chromecast is a quick, easy and cheap upgrade to a tired old TV

This took me longer to get out of the box than it did to setup.
It's been humming away over there behind the TV ever since never missing a beat.
I ended up putting one on all our TV's
It's been months since any TV has been on live network TV.Everything now is cast by someones phone or iPad or laptop
Mac users get Airdrop and play any files on your hard drive to Chromecast
I don't have or forsee any 4K telly purchase in my immediate future otherwise I'd have got the Ultra

Whilst I cannot fault the unit in its operation, the fact that the Australian model has the USB outlet at the bottom of the 240v outlet creates an early failure of the USB cord. In Australia I would have thought most 240v power outlets are fitted low down on the wall and most TV's are fitted at least 500-600 above the floor this causes the cord to be bent @ 90 degrees and in our case the cord casing has cracked and now unusable. Why would the USB outlet not be fitted at the rear (as per - Iphone etc) or at the top.

Backdrop data usage is the killer - if you have limited data usage
I've owned a chromecast for a while and never had any problem with it as a casting device.
The problem is the amount of background data it uses when you are not actually viewing anything.
Like many aussies I'm on wireless broadband (our ADSL gave out and NBN seems to still be years away, so our only option is 4G broadband.) Because we're on a metered limited download every Gigabyte counts, and if you leave the Chromecast plugged in when you're not using it (as kids always do), it uses a horrible amount of data downloading the hi-res pictu...
Read moreres every 30 seconds that you see on the TV screen (if the TV is on.) Even if the TV is off or being used for free to air, the data is still used. On a monthly basis, the picture downloads can be up to 20GB - which is a lot if you are on a 100GB download limit. I've asked on the Google support forums how the backdrop downloading can be turned off. The short answer is that it can't be turned off, and (even though it would be a trivial software change) Google have no plans to fix it. I've had to put the Chromecast in a drawer and forget about it - will look at other devices as an alternative.- Date Purchased

And easy to setup. No regret! Gonna use it all the time.. love it love it love it!

Best invention of the decade in my humble opinion, and has revolutionised the way we watch TV. If you don't have it yet, you're not doing TV right and you're undoubtedly missing out. Only issue is not a google chromecast one, but rather a TV networks one (like Channel 7 and not making their alternative Winter Olympics app viewings compatible with the device).

The chrome cast makes life so much more simple. It turns older TV's into a smart TV with the use of a phone or tablet and a WI-FI connection. Very simple to set up just need to connect to TV and download app following the steps to set up. I even have put the chromecast on my newer TV's as they didn't have all the app's we needed and it is just much easier to cast it from your phone.
I use the chromecast to watch Netflix, Foxtel play, Plex and you can even cast you computer screen to your TV by having Google chrome installed on your computer....
Read more I find that when I am watching Netflix through the app on the smart TV that it often freezers and disconnects, with the chromecast this never happens. Also being able to control the streaming through you phone is great and faster. You will need a good Wi-Fi connection to make it work and a phone or tablet to have the apps on. Well worth the money, I have had 3 for just under a year and so far no issues.- Date Purchased

Very useful product, I can stream Netflix and Youtube from my iPad. With other streaming sites, I can cast anything from my Google Chrome on the computer onto the TV. Integrates very well with all devices and never had any issues. You get a lot for what you pay.

I first bought Google WiFi to fix the wireless coverage at home and that has been awesome. So it was a natural next step to take advantage of all that really good WiFi with a Chromecast. I got the second generation rather than the Ultra because I don't have a 4K TV. Plugs directly into the HDMI port and hangs off the back of the TV. A small power adaptor connects it to electricity.
I then downloaded the Google Home app onto my phone and setting it up was done in literally seconds. It knew about my Google WiFi and joined effortlessly. ...
Read more A brief tutorial later and I was up and streaming YouTube to the amazement of my wife. Then tested my Android tablet and an iPad and all was sweet. Installed 7 Plus, 9Now, Netflix, ABC iView and SBS OnDemand apps and all played flawlessly. So simple and so much viewing choice now available to the family. Went out the same day and bought another Chromecast for the rumpus TV and now all the apps know I have a choice of connections to stream to. Then I found out that I can tell it to stream onto on of the TVs from anywhere in the house and it will even turn the TV on and switch the input remotely. Very cool. Picked them up at a bargain price of just $45.60 (after price match minus 5%) from Officeworks!- Date Purchased
What a piece of crap. Total waste of money. Started well the restarted every 2 minutes. Frustrating and annoying. What a crap product. Once it was set up, which was easy enough, the unit just kept shutting down a dire starting once I tried to watch anything. Think I want my money back now.

It's great for streaming TV, also good for viewing videos and pics from our phones. Not so fast when watching videos from the phones, tends to stop and start a bit. Will be great for catch-up TV once all the channels get on board with it. ABC iview and SBS on demand are great, TENplay picks and chooses what you can cast. I rarely watch anything on the other channels so can't tell you. I've also used it for NETFLIX which worked well so I assume the others are all good too. Also good for casting Youtube and Spotify.
When it's not casting...

Great product .. Not much difference with its first generation
I brought 2nd gen chromecast because 1st generation having some lagging while using other screen as a monitor, but there is only very little improvement in terms of speed. Overall if you have 1st generation device, don't buy this, streaming almost has the same speed. Design wise this is better, its now a round shape and magnetic effect is also added so that it can easily fit behind the television. Overall Its good to buy in-case you don't have first the generation chromecast.
