This is perfect. Has solved all my problems
After my smart TV stopped updating anyview cast stopped working. So I invested in the chromecast and it has been amazing. I can again enjoy streaming downloads from my phone. The remote makes everything so easy too.

Very good product but has minor issues
Have had Google Chromecast with Google TV for 6 months and it is very good. Only issue is that quite often it powers up without internet connection and requires restart from the menu. After that it works smoothly. Another downside is that as a portal to different services, it requires us to have an account in those services. Haven't tried paid content yet as we watch SBS on Demand and kids watch ABC kids and Youtube.

It works great until it doesn’t
Was very happy with the chromecast until it stopped downloading apps after about 9 months of use. And we are not the only ones seeing the hundreds of comments in google help Centre. Clearing caches, data storage, download manager, force-stopping apps, signing in and out, rebooting, resetting to factory settings: nothing has solved the problem leaving us with an expensive streaming device that only allows access to the google store. Unable to access Netflix, Disney, prime, Stan etc. The inability to contact google to solve the problem ended with us switching to the Amazon fire stick. This is a Google problem that they don’t seem willing to fix. Disappointing and a waste of resources and money.

Does the job but I wish I purchased differently
*Edit: it is the next day and my phone is now talking to the Chromecast with Google TV. But I still think I should have bought the basic Chromecast and a FHD TV.*
I just bought a 4K TV from a budget brand and was planning to buy a Chromecast to avoid using a budget brand smart TV user interface (yuck). This product does what I need it to do, but here are some reasons why I regret my purchase:
I spent the afternoon trying to get the Chromecast with Google TV to let my phone be a full featured remote control, but it just won't let me do it. So ...
Read moreI have to use the Chromecast with Google TV's remote control (and make sure not to lose it). The basic Chromecast does not come with a remote, and I suspect that it would therefore be fully controlled from my phone, which I've always got on me anyway. This would mean one less gadget to worry about. Another reason why I got the Chromecast with Google TV instead of the basic Chromecast is because the former supports 4K while the latter only supports FHD, but the more I think about it, the more I think this was not a good decision. There is not much 4K content in Australia right now. Even if there was, you would need a massive TV and/or an unreasonably close viewing distance to notice the difference, and it would take a lot of bandwith to stream. So, if I could re-do my purchase, I would have bought a FHD (1080p) TV with the basic Chromecast and saved a bit of money.

Pointless for multiple users
Bought as a gift for a family member in my household. We assumed it would obviously support switching between multiple profiles and improve everyone's experience with the lounge room TV. Alas, this device only supports a single primary user and will only deliver and curate personalised watch lists for that one user. I contacted device support staff through the Google store online where I purchased it from. They said they would email me instructions about profile switching capabilities, but I never heard from them again. It's astounding this fea...
Read moreture is unsupported, since personalisation is the whole point of the chromecast with google tv. Secondly, the included remote has buttons that can be paired with TV's to perform volume, power and input functions, using HDMI CEC protocols. No amount of messaging around, factory resetting or updating firmware could make this work for my Hisesnse TV. This is not a marginal TV brand... It seems as though Google could improve on the lacklustre functionality by updating the database of remote control codes to improve connectivity. What did Google device support suggest for this issue? That I contact Hisense about the problem. Even if Hisense support did respond (they didn't) and were to give me updates remote codes for my TV, the google tv remote settings do not allow for manual code entry. Not happy with the purchase. Google over-promises and under-delivers on this product.Purchased in February 2022 at Google Store for $99.
Additional Paid content is ridiculous!
I have netflix, stan, disney plus and Amazon prime subscriptions. With all of these you would think most movies would be free however up to 50% of movies in the library have an addition charge to `rent` the movie. I do not pay the money for all the above subscriptions to then fork out more to see a movie on these services. I will be leaving some of them soon.

Can't live without it now though the remote is ....
My Tv was an old samsung smart tv that loads really slow for anything smart related.
Put this device on and anything smart within google tv is now running at a reasonable speed. Very happy with this device. Searching was easy with the inbuilt mic on the remote. No more using D pad to enter single alphabet by alphabet. Ok not entirely no more but it is not needed most of the time.
Good amount of streaming apps supported.
Logging into accounts still need to enter info with D pad but mostly a one time thing.
Recemt updates made 3rd party remote app unusable sadly.

Best gadget I have ever bought.
I have had the Google Chromecast for 18 to 24 months. It was so easy to install, just plug it in and I have no had no trouble with it whatsoever. The last 2 weeks, I could work my around the TV screen while looking for a video to watch on YouTube, suddenly this handy little thing has disappeared, it was only there for about 2 weeks, I don't know if it's something they let us try out first, to saved getting up and walking to the computer and finding a video to watch,. Anyway, I have no complaints, it really is a great gadget. I noticed it went up 30 dollars since I bought it though. I paid $69.

Better than previous models
I've been using google chromecast for a long time now. I like this better than the 3rd gen. Remote control is pretty convenient plus it casts perfectly on screen. Navigation is not a problem.

No input button control with Kogan TV's
I'm using my TV as a computer monitor and decided to get the Google TV to catch-up with any free to air shows I my have missed. All good setting up and lots of info video's online if you need help. Only problem is the input button on the Google remote isn't compatable with any Kogan TV's. So in my case if I wanted to go from HDMI 3 (Google TV) to HDMI 2 (computer), I need to use sources on original TV remote. Then back to Google TV remote for it's menu. I'm sure there's a universal remote code that works somewhere for Kogan TV's but at this time Google Chromecast/TV hasn't got it.

Has it all
Has just about very app you'd want including Apple TV. Works great and easy to navigate. The trick is to only have one subscription at a time. The only issue is that with so much choice it's hard to decide what to watch.

Pushes unremovabel adds on homescreen
I wanted to express my gratitude for google tv putting adds on my homescreen, and pretending its all for my benefit. Whilst not being able to turn it off. They add apps without consent, but it is OK because I can remove them. They fill up homescreen with crap, but it can be modified. This last with u removable ads is not OK, I paid for my shield.

forced selling of google services
the product works but its bundled with netflix offer which in fact is very difficult to actually receive unless you additionally install google home.
basically its an offer that requires additional undeclared software to install which is illegal unless declared at point of sale which it isn't.
google service is abysmal and also forces installation of google home. trying to get your money back is like crawling down a razerblade and that is deliberate as well.
absolutely abysmal company and will not buy a google product unless its the only thing available.

Chromecast with Google TV - Just a Sensational Little Unit!
We have an older style Smart TV that pre-dated the later Android based TV's that support installing Apps via Google Play. So when we wanted to get an online subscription to Kayo for sports, our TV didn't support it. We bought a HDMI media player that claimed to support installing apps, which it did to a certain extent but not the Kayo app, among others. We had also bought another different brand media player at the same time with the view to use with the kids TV, and while it did actually install the Kayo app, the quality of picture was abysmal...
Read more. Nothing we could do improved the picture much, it was determined to present picture in a very grainy resolution, this may possibly have been because of an inferior Wi-Fi signal with the player, but by this stage we were so disgusted and gutted we just gave up on it. Then a colleague recommended a Chromecast unit, which I really didn't want as playing sports on a laptop or my phone and streaming that to the TV just seemed a pain as well as tying up another device, but then we heard about the Chromecast with Google TV unit. This is an absolutely brilliant bit of kit, not only was it super easy to setup, but it's also fairly tiny and out of the way. The remote despite seeming undersized and lacking buttons, actually functions very simply and flawlessly with extremely good tactile control, far better in fact than most of our other remotes. Quite a lot of thought has obviously gone into the design and usability of the remote, and it really shows with the ease and simplicity of use. And despite being connected to the HDMI port at the rear of the TV, the Wi-Fi reception is nothing short of superb, during shows we've never experienced lags or drop-outs, which were really common with our other media players, and in Auto mode the video is always presented as the highest resolution possible. I can't recommend this device high enough, the design, ease of use, and outstanding reception and output resolution are just superb, it really is worth every cent! I wish I had've known about this device before buying 2 pretty useless media players and spending days pouring over forums. Now if only Google would add a USB port so it could also function as a media player, then that really would be a killer product!Purchased in March 2021 at Officeworks for $99.

Saved me buying a new TV!
We bought this as our Smart TV was no longer smart! The apps weren't being updated anymore and others weren't available. It made for clunky viewing. The Chromecast with Google TV has meant we don't need a new TV, which is perfectly fine for viewing free to air and other devices. The remote is small and simple and takes a little to get used to but is easy once you know your way. Has good built in buttons like Netflix, YouTube and easy to install Apps. I've found the remote can be sensitive to bumps whereas most TV remotes need a pretty fir...
Read morem press to get something to change. Not a big fan of the choices it makes for suggested viewing but I tend only to use what I like. Can watch free to air through the apps but you may better just using your old remote for that. We are very happy we bought one.Purchased in May 2021 at JB Hi-Fi for $99.

My CWGTV does not detect 4k on my 4k TV. It does for about 1 minute then goes back to 1080p. Reading between the lines it looks like CWGTV in 4k does not happen in Australia. Has anyone heard if that is true?
