Highly recommended for single/couple use
I'm surprised other reviewers have had issues with their Haier as mine has been a dream! I live alone in a tiny unit and even with all the doors open I can barely hear my washing machine in operation - very quiet!
Positive features: Quiet, big enough for single person or a couple (I am yet to completely fill the machine with a load, more than large enough for me), customizeable cycle settings - You can change the temperature, duration of cycle etc, no annoying constant beeping when a cycle is complete- read the countdown timer if you want to...Read more

Excellent machine, poor support from Fisher & Paykel
Machine is great, washes well, very quiet. According to User Manual it comes with base cover to reduce noise and keep out damp, was not delivered. Reason given: no vermin in Australia. West of Brisbane we have mice, geckos, frogs and ants that get into appliances and eat wiring and short out circuit boards!

Rubbish - countless issues
Purchased one for a rental property I manage and I have had constant issues with it. Control board has been replaced, does not wash well, leaves detergent marks on clothes, tenants have complained about the spinning noise - sounds like an aeroplane. Haier/F&P customer service is not that great, just advise to use liquid detergent and keep levelling the machine which does not do anything. I have asked for a replacement but kept on getting passed around from managers in different departments.

Does not wash well, faulty control board
Purchased one for my mother as I had a Haier. Control board has been replaced as it was faulty, spinning noise sounds like an aeroplane. Not good for someone in a small house!
Definitely not a reliable machine - the water use is really low but does not wash well enough because it doesn't use enough water. Quick wash does not wash either which was why I purchased this.
I have contacted service who just said I should just dissolve liquid detergent in hot water to wash better. This hasn't helped either which is disappointing.

Good washing machine overall, great features.
Very quiet and washes clothes well. Big 8.5 Kg load capacity is very useful for large loads or blankets etc. Several 'quick' wash options, very high spin speed, and ability to open door after wash starts (in order to toss in extra items) are also really useful. The only issue we've had is sometimes, if we've had just a few bulky items to wash - such as a couple of towels and thick bath mat - the machine seems unable to balance itself on its spin cycle and has shaken badly. This has not occurred every time however and we've noticed that if just ...Read more
a few large items are washed and they all sort of congregate over to one side of the barrel this is when it happens. We were a bit apprehensive at first over buying a Haier appliance because so many people suggest that these cheaper 'Chinese-made' brands are inferior to other European and local brands. However, even a quick look through reviews on this site and elsewhere demonstrates that there are also plenty of issues with these other allegedly more reputable brands. Haier offers a good (2 yr) warranty (backed up by Fisher & Paykel) and our machine has performed reliably so far after owning it for just over 1 yr now. In summary, our machine has all the features we wanted: Very quiet, plenty of wash programs (including 2 'quick' programs), electronic dials and readout, efficient washing, large capacity load, a door which allows you to open during wash cycle if desired (doesn't lock you out), high-dry spin speed, and ability to select 'cold water' only to save money on electricity. The machine is styled well and looks as good if not better than many others, and with an extended warranty we feel it has proved to be a good choice. Many of the 'name-brand' machines are made in factories in Asia and China or Eastern-bloc countries anyway, so the charge that 'Chinese-made' are somehow not as good may not be as relevant today as it was, say, 10 years ago. So, at this point I'd say this particular Haier machine is worth considering if you're needing a large capacity washer (8.5Kg) for a significantly better price than the 'name branded ones.1 comment

Hi just wondering what type of detergent do you use for Haier HWM85-1482 8.5kg Front Load Washing Machine?

Hi,
We use any of the well-known brand LIQUID laundry detergents - OMO, Cold Power, Radiant, etc. We have found all of them generally ok. I will share the same advice I received from a technician some years ago regarding our dishwasher, which was to use LIQUID rather than powder. This is because sometimes the powders do not always fully dissolve and can build up over time in your machine's pipes - a bit like how 'plaque' builds up in your heart's arteries over time - and can eventually cause a blockage (and then repair bills). So I would recommend sticking with front-loading liquid laundry detergents (for washing machines as well as dishwashers). I hope this helps.
liquid but sorry u bought a lemon there crap not worth the money as break down mine was broken within minutes

Sorry to hear that others have had issues with their machines. Ours is still operating well - and we've found the quick wash function very useful - and it washes well. Also ours is extremely quiet in ... Read more
its operation - both washing and drying. In my first posting I said that the machine bounced around with a bath mat and towels inside. After some 'trial and error' I discovered that the bath mats (which were very thick) were just too heavy when saturated with water - and when they sit over one side of the machine they unbalance it - so, provided we don't burden it with too few heavy items (which then sit over to one side of the machine and unbalance it), it works fine. So far, no real issues. We'd still recommend.
