We were skeptical having read previous reviews, however our experience was positive. We flew Brisbane to Honolulu direct which is fantastic for Queenslanders not having to transfer. The evening flight arriving morning of same day was great. Food was good, dinner plus a snack. Plentiful beverages and alcohol was free. Staff were friendly and flight reasonably on time. Inter island flights also great. Return flight leaving Honolulu 1:30pm and arriving in Brisbane evening of the following day made catching up on time very easy.

I have flown business class on many airlines and this is by far the most outdated I have experienced (flew NY-HNL then HNL-SYD). The seats barely recline and the foot rest barely goes up and extends. Having flown with HA's partner airline Virgin Atlantic only recently as part of a package, my husband and I were very surprised and disappointed. Having made in excess of 30 overseas flights using many different airlines we were very impressed with Hawaiian Airlines. We flew from Sydney to Honolulu and return in January this year and were fortunate to fly in their newer planes both trips. Everyone from the ground staff through to the flight staff were very friendly and helpful, with the check-in staff in Honolulu going above and beyond in assissting us.

When leaving Brisbane airport for Hawaii we were not happy to queue for over an hour to book in the luggage.. not enough staff to attend to all the people. Staff were very friendly.When returning on the 22nd some staff were abrupt.On the flight back to Brisbane we were given only one return to Australia form for the two of us. Hawaiian airlines have to be the worst airline I have ever flown with. Three of us had First Class seat from Maui to Honolulu. These seats were booked many months in advance. When we checked in we found that we had only one first class seat and the other two would have to fly coach.

Almost missed my flight back from Honolulu to Sydney because of unhelpful personnel at the Honolulu airport. It was my first time at the airport so I was unfamiliar with the check-in procedure and the check-in location (my flight is with Virgin Australia but operated by Hawaiian Airlines). The staff there were unwilling to help and gave me very unclear direction/instruction (and very rude). We recently flew the new Brisbane to Honolulu direct flight. Things will be done in Hawaiian time, but once you appreciate this the experience is great.The check-in staff provided exceptional service, flight attendants were friendly and the allowance for checked luggage is great. We had a few issues initially with the ticket reservations, and found the head office staff were very helpful, resolving the issue promptly. From Sydney to Honolulu we had a newer aircraft. We were a bit squished as the flight was pretty well full. My husband is 6 ft 2 inches and found he didn't have any leg room to spare. However the flight was smooth and uneventful. Nice Flight Attendants and food was good. We flew home directly to Brisbane on an older, slightly smaller aircraft with no screens on the back of the seat in front. This was the first time we have traveled with Hawaiian Airlines. We traveled from Sydney to Honolulu and our flight and the staff were great. My entertainment system was not working which was frustrating, however, our flight staff worked hard to correct the situation. Our return flight from Honolulu to Sydney was not so enjoyable. The female staff were untidy, their hair was not groomed well, they had little or no make-up on and on the whole had made little attempt to look as you would expect. We flew Sydney-Honolulu- Maui- Sydney with our one year old baby. I would have thought it was some kind of international law to have infant seat belts? Apparently not. I also would have thought it was some of courtesy for staff to check-in with anyone flying with a baby to see if everything is alright, apparently not even a smile is a requirement here. Staff are lazy and spent most of their time sitting up the back reading magazines.

Definately not what I expected or would recommend to anyone else who is flying with children.

As the luggage allowance champions of the Pacific, Hawaiian Airlines are our only choice for the Sydney to USA route. They allow 64kg against the other airlines' 46kg, and I can pack a lot of shopping into that extra 18kg! Additonal baggage cost is $80 or so for another 32kg bag, the biggest bargain in the air.

The planes we flew on in 2009 were fairly old but very well maintained and everything worked, a revelation after doing the same trip on Air Canada. They have since replaced their fleet.

I will fly with them again- nice staff make up for a lot of potential problems. Although I was very put out by a reroute on the last flight where we ended up in Samoa for unscheduled refuelling- would have at least been nice to be allowed out for a bit of a walk- we were that late anyway! But I will say this- they kept us informed all the way, so there was none of that really irritating not knowing what is going on that you get with other transporters.
Good rewards program, very friendly and helpful staff, great sense of humour.
