Devastated, yellowing only after a few months. Finish is poor and looks old
I strongly recommend purchasing any other brand than this, we are absolutely devastated. We were assured that this paint was high-quality and better than other leading manufacturers on the market however after only a short time all of our paint has gone to a very yellowed colour am I only talking a few months… in fact the paint we covered over was better than the new paint.
We painted the same colour on the walls ceilings and trims and all of the trims doors architraves skirting boards are all yellowing really poorly very quickly throughout r...
Read moreegardless of natural light or location. We found that the paint is not hard wearing if you wash your window frames the paint starts to come off and it’s very evident where you have cleaned leaving marks behind which I’ve never experienced with other lead brand paints. We painted our entire house right through with Haymes paint and now we have to do it again wasting more money on trades and paint not to mention the huge hassle and delays!! I painted the skirtings and window trim with the high gloss Ultratrim enamel and was very happy with the result. I painted two coats as one was not enough coverage. It was dry enough to recoat after 5 hours (may have been ok sooner but I didn’t check). It didn’t dry too fast and allowed me to run the brush over it a few times to get a smooth finish amd it levelled out nicely. The paint dried to a nice gloss, not as glossy as high gloss oil based enamel, but closer to the semi gloss look that I actually wanted. I’m really happy with this paint.
Purchased in April 2021 at Haymes for $60.

Excellent product. I'm simply astounded by the quality of this solvent-based enamel. It reminds me the very best British and Dutch oil/solvent based enamels I was trained to work with 20+ years ago in the UK. I'm no longer in the trade, but this paint rekindled my love for the work from the days past...
You need to have the skills, be reasonably fast and have a good quality bush, but the experience is worth it - you can feel the brush, the cut, the pull and the paint responding to your finest strokes ... with your eyes closed - a pure pleasure to work with and the results are simply magnificent. Also, this enamel is very forgiving.
Well done Haymes!
Purchased in June 2022.
Questions & Answers
Should you thin out low sheen enamel when brush on
Is Wattyl Ultratrim Semi gloss suitable for exterior steps? Hoping not too slippery.
I personally wouldn’t for outside steps as there will be a slip hazard.
If you used a non slip surface in conjunction with the paint then it may be fine.
What is the difference between ultra trim and trim enamel paint?
Ultratrim is haymes water based or acrylic enamel. The alternative to water based is oil base which haymes have named. Ultra premium trim enamel. Both are trim enamels
