Waste of money
Don't waste your money on the Hills 5 litre pressure sprayer. I have bought a few and they last about 6 months max before the trigger/valve mechanism misfunctions and you cannot turn it off. I have cleaned them out, reset the seals, time after time but hopeless. Have learnt my lesson now, keep your receipt, you will need it.
Purchased in December 2021 at Mitre10 Nambour for $26.00.

Terrible Product
I have now had 3 Hills 16L spray packs and they have ranged from being faulty on arrival to lasting a very short period. Issues have been from spray wand leaking on me to just not working at all.
I had 3 because the supplier kept replacing the faulty units but I have now given up and looking for a reliable manufacturer.

Not fit for the purpose intended!!!
Looks the part but that is where it finishes. This issue was bought to their attention over a year ago by another reviewer, seems that they really don't care to make improvements to fix the issues related to their sprayers. Obviously another great Australian company being run into the ground. l will be returning this crap sprayer to the store where it was purchased for a refund and l can say that l will NEVER purchase a product from "HILLS" ever again.

5lt Hills Sprayer
Purchase sprayer ay 3-4 yrs ago. Has been sitting under house for over 2 years because the handle trigger off/on switch wont switch off. Only way to stop is to let the pressure out and that is really a nuisance. Appears you have a problem here. Replaced all seals but same problem- was told by the Mitre 10 that it is the handle an no replacement available. That is the only problem I had.Oh well, another good looking sprayer to the tip with not much use. I bought another sprayer yesterday and it wasn't a Hills.

Terrible
Have had two of these for years. One for pesticide and another for roundup. Have had them for years, still going strong never missed a beat. Would give these two 5 stars no worries.
Purchased a third to spray white oil onto my citrus trees. Lasted a few months and one day, went to pressurize it and it failed. Thought i must be unlucky. Went to the local hardware a few weeks back, purchased another. Put it together today, went to pump it up and the handle came off in my hands. I thought, wonder if the spray handle will work, pulled the trigger...Read more
and it leaked everywhere. And of course i threw the receipt out as i expected the thing not to fail. The plungers are a massive weak point. Not sure what has happened in the last few years, but the product quality is terrible. Spend your money on a better quality unit.Purchased in June 2021 at Mitre 10.

Just managing to keep it going
Mine is about 3 years old & use for killing wandering jew and other tough weeds (as we adjoin bushland). Have used two maintenance kits so far to replace the pressure release valve. Trigger is useless as it doesn't cutoff - have to release pressure to stop flow (I can live with that). Just noticed some orange plastic and springs in the bottom, possibly failed parts from the previous valves? Hopefully not a new problem. Wouldn't recommend paying extra for the "name".
Purchased in September 2021 for $50.00.

Short lived useability
I am so disappointed in this product! Always preferring to purchase Aus company product I bought one last Summer and after 4/5 weeks it ceased to hold pressure and became frustrating. Had lost receipt so made the mistake of buying another similar version but still Nylex .Yet again after 3 months it has stopped spraying. I've cleaned all tubes in case of blockage but there is a definite fault at the handle/trigger

Absolute rubbish, leaks from button from first fill, returning it.
Edit. I have since spoken to Hills, they were not aware of the bad feedback on the garden sprayers. I am also receiving replacement. I would advise all who have a faulty unit. Contact Hills direct via email. I received response promptly.
Hills once had a great reputation but I will no longer buy anything Hills, I've bought cheap sprayers from the reject shop that lasted years. Decided to go with Hills for the name and well, I thought quality. The unit feels cheap and sub standard. Obviously they no longer care for their reputation. Its items l...Read more

Low quality product, poor design, shocking user manual
Almost all of the bad reviews here complain about the sticking trigger mechanism. It happened to me too. The Made-in-China "Australian" Hills sprayer comes with incredibly poorly written instructions that deliberately leave out information on how to service the trigger mechanism.
Suffice to say that once you have disassembled the mechanism and pulled out the yellow insert that has 2 small o-rings on it, you need to slop some Vaseline on those o-rings and the sticking trigger will be fixed.
It's quite tricky to get the yellow insert out o...Read more
f the handle frame, unfortunately. I needed to use needle-nose pliers.Better design would have made it much easier to keep the o-rings serviced. Nobody at Hills cares, apparently, because the design has not changed in a decade!Similar opinion? Write a review on ieatwords.com.au!
POOR QUALITY MATERIALS
These things can't be used with any type of corrosive liquid as the trigger spring is plain old mild spring steel, it has corroded and broken into 2 pieces. It needs to be 316 grade of stainless spring steel. Also the lance is not the required grade to resist corrosion, it also needs to be the 316 grade of stainless steel. I used diluted pool chlorine to bleach paving that had become stained with black mould. Made the mistake of leaving the mixture in the bottle and in the wand etc. Went to use it again a few weeks later and the liquid came out of 3 holes in the lance.

Quality poorer than older models.
Unfortunately with the mania to cut manufacturing costs trying to buy quality goods is becoming increasingly difficult. Check out your local store and you will find it almost Impossible to buy anything other than made in China offerings. I don't blame Chinese companies, they are only supplying what overseas companies demand, cheap products.
Does it do the job ? For a short time, yes but leaking develops even from the plastic bottle welded seams with only moderate use. Would I recommend it, hard question to answer simply because it's almost impossible to buy anything better. The only redeeming thing is they are not overly expensive.

Hills weed sprayer.
Over 20 years or more I have purchased a new sprayer from Bunnings as the trigger keeps breaking and it will not shut off. What a waste of money each time I think this one will last but no three or four times using it it breaks. Not happy with this product at all.

Average sprayer
Does a reasonable job but is restricting in not having adjustable nozzle to vary the spray pattern, well I couldn't get mine to adjust. I recently had to replace the spring in the trigger as it was not shutting off the jet when released. This seems to happen to all these units, despite washing out the unit after use. Also, the maximum length of jet is insufficient to reach some of the taller trees in my garden. I would pay more for a sprayer with a greater jet range. It is really no better than the el cheapo ones Bunnings sell.

Trigger won't shut off
I am sick and tired of trying to fix this Hills Garden Sprayer. Trigger wont shut off. I flush it out after each use with water, pull it apart and wash all components and after buying three in four years I won't ever use a Hills product again. Agree with previous feed back that you should be able to buy spray arm with trigger as opposed to a whole new unit.

Tigger mechanism is tish
Have just done my block trying to spray weeds. Trigger will not shut off. I took it apart and checked all parts but same response. Not happy Jan. Would expect a product to last for much longer considering only used 3 times previously. Disappointed that you cannot buy a replacement arm as all other parts in almost perfect condition.

No interest in responding to my complaint
This review is for a Hills 5 litre sprayer (bottle and lance) After light use the trigger mechanism jammed. I took it apart and added a strong spring to assist in stopping the flow. It worked for a few uses. With successive stronger springs the trigger system still fails to operate and the only way to stop the flow is to release the air pressure. I wrote to Hills expressing my disgust with this cheap, un-researched, plastic rubbish mechanism. NO REPLY

Questions & Answers
Robin Bohringerasked
Have Hills 5Lt sprayer and the sprayer handle wont switch off. As pumping air into sprayer the water comes out the nozzle Lance and you can place the switch in any position and it wont stop water from spraying. Would it be the plunger assembly (298) in the handle or perhaps the (313) pump valve at bottom of pump barrel. I replaced seals in handle but couldn't get the plunger out- is there a secret in this as maybe the problem.
