Multiple issues, bad service.
Don't buy a Holden, unless you enjoy headaches.
Less than 30,000kms I have had the following problems:
1- speedometer replaced after it jammed up and was stuck at 60kmh
2- fuel cap wouldn't open
3- headlights filling up with water, leaving them stained on the inside, Holden only replaced the LH side, telling me "oh yeah it's normal for them to fill up with water" but they can only replace it if it fills up when they test it.
4- engine burning through oil and blowing a tonne of black smoke through the exhaust. So my dip stick and oil cap were changed along with a higher viscosity oil "because that's the right oil for this car now"

5- the mylink system shutting down completely on various occasions, when this happened I lost my indicators too. Took it to Holden and they updated the firmware 6- after firmware update my reverse camera didn't work. Another trip back to Holden to have it reconfigured. Upon taking it back they thought it was in for a 45,000 service... 7- This is the big one. One day my car tried to kill me when I chose my moment to move off from a give way sign onto a main road. As I took off I lost all speed, revved the hell out of the engine as my car put itself into low range. I pulled over and couldn't get it out of 4L for ten minutes. The electronic switch was doing nothing, moving backward, forward, nothing. Ignition off then on, repeat, nothing. So I sat and waited another 5 minutes with the ignition off before starting and it corrected itself. I contacted Holden that same day and was told there was nobody in on that Saturday who could check the problem. So after booking my car in for the following week I was told that the car is fine, no errors were logged, they can't do anything about it. "If it does it again then bring it back in and we will see how we go from there." They have left me feeling like they don't care or just can't be stuffed and are happy to lie their way around issues or dodge them altogether. Way to go Holden, you're service is pathetic. Never again.

The best ute i have ever had tows my van like a dream car is perfect in every way. Comfy six speed auto just does every thing you want, could not ask for more. I do a service every 10 thousand, it is just so perfect good aircon it is holden pride.

Bought the Z71 today, lets see if it continues to impress.
The list for purchasing a luxury ute was pretty short for me, as I'm not a fan of the 5 cylinder engine supplied by Ford. Seriously, 4 cyl registration in QLD is awesome, 5 cyl gets classed as a 6 cyl, and if I wanted to pay yearly for a 6 cyl, I would have bought an Amarok..... Actually no i wouldn't because of the subpar safety systems in the VW!!!!

py. It even has an indicator for unbuckled seats in the back so you know if one is not clipped in. The android link is not as refined as I was expecting, as you cannot go to modify your sound from within the app, you need to exit back to mylink to even change the tone/balance. Minor issue i guess. The electric steering is insanely light and doesn't labor the engine like the old hydraulic pumps of yesteryear. City driving for me today, I averaged 11L/100, and I expect that figure to come down once I hit the motorways/highway more frequently. The leather seats are super comfortable, coming from a VT Commodore with very aging upholstery, you definitely notice the change! The pre-teen kids love the extra vision they have in the back seats, although they're not a fan of the literal climb into the car! Man this thing is tall!2 comments

alling just over 3600km. Smooth as butter on the highway, 8.6L/100 average diesel consumption for the journey, that was a very pleasant surprise! The fuel bill for the holiday was $511. I expected the new bars to add some extra wind resistance. The cabin is whisper quiet, with minimal outside noises entering, including the very slight growl of the Duramax ticking at approx 1300RPM. The seats were fantastic, and after a 17 hour driving day, my rump wasnt numb at all :) and the heated seats are amazing for frosty mornings, and any lower back/hip pain.Similar opinion? Fantastic Work Ute
MY MY13 RG Colorado is now 5 years old, with 150,000 kms on the clock. It is my work ute and has a rather large aluminium canopy on the back in which I cart approx 500 kgs of tools and parts every single day of the week. This vehicle has proven to be solid and reliable. It drives very very well, after I put 10ply tyres and helper load bearing leaf in the rear springs (a problem with all heavily loaded dual cabs). 't put new pads on, what were they thinking, maybe they were not. But at 75k, put on DBR slotted rotors, never looked back. At 150k, we have to do a big service, rear brakes probably, timing belt, and the usual, but my cousin does it for me, so costs me parts and beer money. I found the interior to be somewhat a little plastic like, well aren't they all, but just seemed a bit rough, but it is a work ute, so i do not really care. Legroom is great, seats are comfortable, i spend up to 3 hrs a day driving about from job to job, mirrors were inadequate for an ali tray, so eventually fitted clearviews, best thing ever to do. The aircon is being serviced right now, only lost 20% gas in 150k, pretty good that. But my car does not have a pollen cabin filter, WHY? Reliabilty wise, i have no major issues, the Alternator died at about 130,000kms, but oh well, wasn't too exy to replace non genuine, had a couple of little warranty issues, including a water leak on the front of the block, fixed under warranty promptly. It is fairly economical, keeping in mind my localised travel and heavy loads every day, runs superbly on the highway as low as 8.5L/100kms. It is an Austomatic, which I find fine, tough I did fit an auxillary cooler to the car for the transmission. Excellent service. Great vehicle .jacob and jordon from north gosford were amazing. They done a great deal and were very professional . I will recommend them to my family and friends . And I they were very accommodating to my situation. I am very happy with the car. Love driving it

Suspesion ratings are lies
10000 ks towing suspension totally had it . Had complained to the dealer at 3000 ks about the suspension and was told it was normal for rear springs to bow upside down.the had gmh ring me and told me the same bull.didntbother going back to the dealer as i knew they had deaf ears, put a complete pedders suspension under car .transformed car to a firmer ride .now tows ok .the car ratings for towbar and ball weight are a obscene rip off on the consumer..if you towed the rated capacity these light utes are lethal only with the stated mods and a loa...Read more

A great reliable vehicle and excellent ergonomics
My 2014 LTZ Crew Cab has been excellent. Mountains of power and sounds great. I haven't needed to upgrade the sound system yet but may in the next year. Averaging 8.5 litres per hundred usually spend $90 to fill (never below a 1/4 of a tank). Overall very impressed with the Colorado.

Cannot believe spending $50K is this difficult.
This post details the buying experience of my first 4x4 - a Colorado Crew Cab. Firstly several dealers failed to provide emailed quotes in a timely manner after requesting same. A country dealership advised as I was an out of town customer, they would provide me a price that 'would embarrass other dealers' despite a 3 week delay, this quote was one of the most expensive. icle or for off road purposes. The Holden steel bull bar (unlike aftermarket bars) is not able to be fitted with a winch. Winches seem to be a common accessory and almost an essential on off road vehicles. This lack of winch compatibility is not evident on information provided by the Holden eg their website which has pretty pictures but lacks relevant information eg weight, lack of winch & recovery point compatibility etc. Holden canopy, dealers and the website do not give details of the height of the canopy. This seems very basic information, particularly if one has a restricted garage entry. Recovery Points. Several dealers advised that the tie down hooks at the front of the vehicle were capable of being used for snatch strap recoveries for a 'stuck' vehicle. These mild steel loops. welded to the chassis are rated at 1500kg. Given the weight of the vehicle (between 2024 kg & 3150 kg) plus the resistance of extracting the vehicle multiplied by the recovery vehicle speed will produce forces far exceeding 1500 kg rating. Failure of these tie down hooks during a recovery as advised by dealerships could potentially result in death or serious injury. Note Aftermarket recovery points appear to be rated at 4500 kg. In short, the information available from Holden seems to be more about sales, than useful and practical information to assist persons like myself who are 4x4 Mayices. Window issues on 2017 model.
Just picked up this 2017 current model from the dealer a few days ago. It is a ex demo. 6000 k on the speedo.
Colorado has a feature now where when you open the driver or front passenger door the window opens about an inch and then closes back up when you close the door. This is to minimize cabin pressure when closing the door.
Problem is sometimes it does not go back up. Only if you do it from the window switch it goes back up. You can open the door again and try to close it again but that does not solve the problem all the time. If it i...Read more

You can take your finger of the switch and try again buy the window just mutters and does not close. You need to take the window down further and then use the window switch for it to go up. Good but ..
Just ticked over 25k. Great to drive and already been on some good remote trips.
No mechanical problems so far. Windows were sticking but a can of silicone spray fixed that problem.
Love the auto with the cruise control.
The dogs love it as the rear seats can be hinged up and I have made a ply platform for them.
Bit thirstier than claimed. Now have a canopy and extra weight so the economy is down more but acceptable.
The interior is a bit cheap.
One thing I don't like is the paint work. I was after a plain white ute but somehow got talke...Read more

Comes in handy
I have never owned a ute before. I have used it to go form Brisbane to Perth and many long trouble free journeys. Had the Holden road side assistance to which came in hand for a flat battery and three. Great up the beach and so comfortable. Go out and buy one and enjoy life a little more.

Transmission
I am still writing about this car as the auto transmission is still not what it should be and the dealership is not doing anything except getting me to ring Holden,which I have done.
That also was a waste of time as they say that there is nothing wrong.
No offence meant here but I was talking with a woman who clearly does not understand.
I am still very unhappy with Holden and the dealership.
Take my warning if you plan to buy an auto trans' Colorado.

o Transmission Here is another update on this Colorado. I have been in touch with Holden again complaining about the auto trans which appears to be slipping. Now I wait till I take it in for its 45k service and get them to check it out again. I see there are multiple people concerned about oil consumption of their 2014 to 2015 Holden Colorados. I have a July 2014 RG II. I asked the question over a year ago as to the amount of oil required to top up based on how far the dipstick reading is below the full mark. (Not in owners manual) Hatched area pretty much seems to be one litre based on my top ups. I have vigilantly recorded distance and top up requirements to over 80 000kms now. 0 Diesel Prado which never shows a drop on the dipstick over its service interval (only 10 000km compared to Colorado's 15 000km) but the Prado's oil looks very dirty just 500km's after a service. Next update around 10 000km. Colorado well over 80 000km old now. Reliability so far 100%Update 2: Now 10000 km post last service and has required 350mls to return to full mark. al and I suspect these vehicles burn more when they run hotter under more demanding use which fits with a lower viscosity oil. On schedule to use about 900 mls to 1 litre for the 15 000km interval. So only minor improvement expected. Oil remains extremely clean looking. Still worth doing as you know you are using a top quality oil and cheaper to buy from dealer spare parts and then use dealer to service as they charge more per litre at the service department. It appears these engines are oil users.... Plenty of manufactures seem to have engines out there that do this.... many BMW models seem to allow 1 qrt (947mls) per 800 miles (1285 km) so don't know if this is a design flaw or engine characteristic for purposes of economy and keeping oil clean.Update 3: Now at 14500km post service. Needed another 300 mls of oil by 12000km post service (Subtotal 930mls) to return to full on dipstick. Down the equivalent of about 550 mls on dipstick currentl... Read more
y so definitely heading for approximately 1500 to 1550 mls usage for the 15000km service interval. Once again, the oil still looks very clean and power and economy are excellent. Engine oil consumption
Nov 2015 colarado has used 1.5 to 2ltrs of oil within 15000k been under oil consumption check since 22000k went to a 40 grade still using I am at 60600 and they still doing a check they top up the oil so naturally when they put in 1.5 ltrs at 6to 7 thousand ks the viscosity is raised again because you have added nearly a third of the oil capacity so when you take it back at 10 or 11 thousand it will only take approximately 250 to 500ml which is within their specs smart aren't they anything to get out of fixing the problem.

Update: Latest on my Colorado Went in for another oil consumption check Monday 30/10/17 it has only done 3000ks since last service has been running 40 grade oil for the last 2 services I was informed that all is fixed now they have changed the filler cap which reads 5w 40 and changed the oil and filter again if you had the car at a small workshop in China you would expect that what a joke Holden they are an insult to anyone with any mechanical aptitude .I would be ashamed to say I worked at the dealership. I have the car serviced at a different dealership than the one I purchased the vehicle because of distance. November 6th 2018 Update: Oil consumption and warranty Warranty is almost impossible to get from Holden if you find a honest dealer you have a chance looking at second hand RG if it's got 5w40 on filler cap stay away, talking from experience I am still waiting for engine replacement out of warranty in 5days 95000ks useing 2ltrs in 9000ks normal driving to towing is not possible would use 3ltrs been under oil consumption test since new buyer beware.Similar opinion? Poor rear suspension
Firstly let me say I love my Colorado. 36000 k with no trouble. There have been the odd recall but but nothing major. Now the suspension, no where good enough for a 1 ton work horse. My 4 x 4 is set up like a lot of others canopy draws fridge etc. With no camping gear she comes in at 2600 kg. Standard springs are flat.
With all the camping gear about 2850kg and I have about 25 mm to bump stops and she bottoms out on the slightest hump. I was told by the service manager that I would have issues trying to claim as he considered the vehicle over...Read more

Good so far
Ive had my 2017 Colorado LS for a short time now. Travelled about 3000km so far, a bit early to tell of any problems, but none so far. Coming from a 2013 Triton, this ute exceeds it in all aspects. Comfort, handling, power,lower road noise,lower fuel consumption etc.For a base car having Android Auto is a big + for me-handsfree information/phone/navigation.The base models of other makes were quite poor in comparison-at this time.Very happy with purchase.

after 5000 kms no oil told me just running in its normal 10000km no oil 15000 no oil 22000 no oil 27000 no oil 31000 new engine put in, and now at 40000 what do ya know no oil. also on my second alt done cvs and than you have to fight with holden to get anything done so first and last holden I will ever get

Damn good ute and tow vehicle
Bought this after testing most of the opposition, overall package and price was what we wanted, it also came with a lot of already fitted extras, and specifically wanted it for towing our camper. First trip with 500km on the clock, we did 2300km to Mt Moffat and Carnavon Gorge, handled the trip brilliantly, comfortable for all 4 of us, and towed beautifully. Averaged 12.5 l/100km, but included some pretty knarly 4wd tracks, and deep sandy sections towing, so was pretty impressed.

Hey, I have a coolant leak on my Colorado on cold start up, but when warm it is dry. Appears to be coming from where hose clamps on to the oil cooler at the rear of the motor, drivers side. Can’t get a good look but it doesn’t appear to be leaking above this point. Any ideas?

I have a 2013 Holden Colorado mid range manual and is currently in Mechanic shop for the 150k service Timing Belt replacement etc..Problem is mechanic replaced Timing Belt and car wont start and he has apparently checked everything he knows however with no success..Is there anything you could possibly advise on what maybe the problem..Car has excellent history with one owner being me so I know the vehicle...Any advice would be appreciated at this stage ..He has had it for 2days with no success..

My average fuel consumption for the 2700km I have driven thus far is 9.2L / 100KM. I did a 400km road trip yesterday, with 3 x 60km town zones, and averaged 8.2L / 100KM with me and two tween kids plus 1 bag of clothes. Pretty minimal weight there I guess, but still the fuel consumption reported by the onboard computer seems better than the official Holden website. I assume it depends on your driving style, and I use the cruise control where possible, locking the speed to 102Kph. It's a little stiff in the suspension, but not uncomfortable. A bit more weight in the car and it would be fine. Overtaking power is insane! Pretty sure it would exceed the performance of my 'elderly' VT Commodore :) Cabin storage is a bit less than my fathers brand new Hilux dual cab, however, as we both agreed upon, there is a LOT more passenger room in the Colorado. With the front seats in full back position, you can still fit adults in the back seat with knee room. The storage under the passenger rear seat is pretty limited, fitting a collapsable shovel, rapid tyre delfator and ratchet strap. The drivers side rear has the jack and vehicle tools, plus I pust a 12V compressor in there for those 4x4 sand driving moments. I have had the Colorado in 4x4 mode about 6 times so far. Sand travel is effortless in 4Hi and I have not had to deflate my tyres yet to go hooking up the river sand to the swimming hole. You do need to turn off traction control in 4Hi however, otherwise the car keeps applying brakes to the spinning wheels. I have tested 4Lo, and it instantly disengages traction control, which is a nice touch. Taking the Colorado up a steep mountain rainforest dirt (mud) trail, scattered with washouts and potholes, also didn't bother the Holden. I engaged 4Hi and had no problem getting to our camping destination. Awesome features: * Almost silent cabin! Aside from the crap you have in the centre console, or useless dash hole, the car is silent. Put a piece of felt in the centre console to dampen the noise from items in there. * Remote start. * Remote windows. Hold down the unlock button to open the windows. Upon relocking, they wind back up. Good for removing heat in the NQ sunshine. * Automatic windscreen wipers, turn on the lights after 8 oscillations * Automatic rear view mirror dimming. Detects vehicles behind and applies an LCD tint to the mirror. * Collision avoidance system. Although startling at first, it's a very good feature. * Tonneau cover: Although it took me a while to work out how to remove it, I now love how neat and tidy it looks. You sort of pull up at a 45 degree angle at each rear corner and work your way back. Roll the big bar thing so it all fits under the sports wing tightly, and strap it down. Now my dog can come for a cruise easily too! * Automatic box 99% of the time is very smooth, it did seem to hunt around on our mountainous trek, however locking it into manual mode kept it a bit more sedate. Now to the negatives that annoy me. Non-electric passenger seat. C'mon, seriously? Tyre selection. The standard "Duellers" are stonechip magnets. They seem to pick up every small piece of gravel and throw them at your panels, and the poor guys coming the other way. i'll be replacing these things soon! Non-autolevelling headlights. Sure there's a knob, but why should I be trusted to do this task? I'm not a fan of the useless middle of the dashboard compartment. It sits in the sun, and anything in there rattles with other items. I put my garage key in there only. Sometimes a handheld GME UHF. The door pockets could be a bit wider, and I would also like to see cup holders in the rear centre fold down arm rest. The tailgate, should really be lockable via the key fob, but it doesn't have a solenoid! You have to manually use the key to lock and unlock the tail. The infotainment system. Although you can drag the icons around the screen to suit you, I find after a few days it seems to forget the positions and go back to default. The volume control should be on the drivers side of the car, or at least allow the user to customize the dials and buttons. I absolutely love this car, and I'm sure my father will stop calling it the "Pus-bucket" once he comes to grips with the fact that his bog stock Hilux has none of the luxury items my Z71 does. Going through the list of features was entertaining to hear him return comments with "Nope, I don't have that feature". I will continue to add more to this 'blog' over time.
