Hi David, We recommend taking the unit to your local Honda Power Equipment dealership and have someone look at the unit for you. Thanks

Honda has been selling the EU201 - 2kva for some years. Has there been an upgrade or new model in that time, or is the current one on sale the same technology as the original model? JUst don't want to buy an older or outdated technology ( smile)

Hi Doug,
My name is Dylan and I work in Honda's marketing department. I can assure you that this EU20i that's currently on sale for $1699 is the same flagship generator that Honda has offered for many years. It's on sale until the end of December, at which time it will likely return to its RRP of $1899. Hope this helps! Dylan.

How quickly will a Honda eu20 fully charge a car battery?

Hi Peter,
Have only used this facility once when I needed a quick charge. Unfortunately this was too slow for me. I believe it would be suited to Trickle Charging, say, overnight.
I run a plug in charger, NOT a digital version, as these wont start charging a FLAT battery. Hope this helps

Hi please what is the steps when storing EU20i for long period of time?
Thanks

Hi Alel,
I'm not sure if Honda prescribe a storage procedure, however as a mechanic I would do the following to store my own.
1. Start and run until operating temp is reached.
2. Drain oil and refil with normal engine oil you use.
3. Drain fuel tank. Start and run engine until it runs out of fuel in carburettor.
4. Remove spark plug, add a teaspoon of engine oil into the cylinder, pull starter cord several times to spread the oil around the cylinder.
5. Replace spark plug.
CAUTION. Remove spark plug and pull starter rope several times prior to restarting at end of storage to expell any excess oil.
Additionally, I would clean the air cleaner.

Hi I have an eu20i and would like to run an electronic 140amp inverter welder on it for hobby farm maintenance work. Will the eu20i do the job? Thanking you in anticipation. Richard

This is a question for Honda.
You do not provide sufficient information to give a reasoned answer. You will need to quote the AC input voltage and power (or amps drawn) of your welder. The 140Amp is presumably the alleged maximum power at the electrode which is likely to be at a low voltage DC.
I am not comfortable responding to this, however - I say NO the 20i is unlikely to cope with an inverter welder. If your welder has a 15amp plug on it then there is not a snowballs chance in hell that a 2KVA genny will cope.
Without prejudice or liability I suggest that you will need at the very least 3KVA not the slightly less than 2KVA which the EU20i delivers. In any event, depending on the sophistication of your welder (particularly if it is a basic cheapie) then it may trip a 3KVA genny.

Hi I have an Honda EU20i which has given me great back up power in outages during summer and when in the outback... There are times now that I would like to run my electronic 120amp inverter welder on the EU20i when tending to maintenance jobs around my friends hobby farm. Question is can I run the energy efficient electronic inverter welder from my EU20i..?? Thanking you in anticipation.. Richard

Hi Richard,
Speaking as a mechanic, not an electrician, if you can run the welder from a standard household 240volt, 10 amp PowerPoint, then there should be no problem, either for the generator or the welder. My only concern is that when striking an arc, the outo throttle may be a fraction slow in responding. Be patient.

Norm

Since it has a power output of 10amps, pretty much any domestic charger could be safely run. Buy a good quality electronically controlled charger and you should have no problem at all.

I've run an 50 amp Outback batteycharger from my Eu20i on caravanning expeditions for years now, if I don't have anything else running the 20i doesn't even change tone when I switch the charger on. I believe 50 amp is about the largest battery charger you can buy. My Eu20i will happily run it, the lights, the fridge, the microwave and television all at once, but not the airconditioner!, which is why I've now upgraded to a Eu30ihandy. I none the less didn't want to part with my 20i, and I still use it extensively (when I'm not using the airconditioner)

Hi I am considering purchasing a honda eu20i generator can you please tell me if it will run a dometic 3200 rooftop air con really don't want to go any bigger than eu20i thanks

Hi there, I don't know the power consumption of your air conditioner, however the running power of mine, an air command, Wren, is approx 1200 watts. Start up is somewhat more. The eu20i is capable of handling about 10% overload for a few seconds. I have a 1800watt kettle which it handles with ease, but NOT with other appliances running. Lights are not an issue. Hope this helps.

I do not know the power requirement of that air conditioner so I can't give you an opinion. However the issue with appliances with an electric motor is the high power demand to start the motor. This will overload the generator. As the motor in an air conditioner is cycling on & off it will trip the overload protector.
Off the cuff I doubt that the 2kva gennie will do it.

Use a 7oow microwave along with a tv on odd occasions would eu10i be ok or would eu20i be better.---petrol or lpg.--- not used over winter so lying up idle any advise would be great?

James H.Honda

Hi Ronnie, my name's Dylan and I work at Honda Power Equipment.

Your microwave alone should be OK for use with the EU10i, however with the TV on it might push it over the 1000W mark that the EU10i can cope with. I would recommend the EU20i to be safe. Also it should give you enough leftover to power a laptop computer or a even a fridge.

All Honda generators operate on regular unleaded petrol.

If it's been a while since you've used it and you're planning on using it in a remote location, I would recommend touching base with your local authorised Honda dealer to see if they would recommend a service. That way you can be sure that the time it's spent idle won't affect its performance.

I hope that helps.

Cheers,
Dylan
